“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.” ― John Lennon
I remember the night I finished this painting. The power coming off the canvas was amazing. The NY Gallery owner really wanted the piece for herself, but if memory serves me correctly, it was sold another direction. This is another piece one day I want to revisit. I can never capture the spirit of The Edge, but maybe do a companion piece for it.
There are different times in our lives that we live on the edge... some dangerous areas, lively areas, places that we go that maybe we should not be. I have my edgy times for sure. While I am not proud of them and certainly would never share them out loud, Most of the times found me on my knees praying to God for forgiveness for my wild side. That wild part of being an artist leaves before you a safe empty canvas for you to be on the edge creating.
Love and life play in our journey as well. Artists always want acceptance and love for their work and that is truly acceptance and love for self. Learning to love ourselves for the gifts we have is a challenge for many of us, me included. Love life and give of your gifts and life will love you back.
How was your edge of life?
“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;" Luke 6:37
