Hints of spring are peaking out between the days of cold. Meanwhile the roses have done well on the southeast side of the house and I cannot wait to start cutting blooms for my vases. I have small buds beginning already.
With this being Lent, there is a double time spent on time in prayer. For me it is not just the giving up of things special to me, but the giving to others of things special to me.
Lady L was reading in her school story book about a parrot that had two coats to wear to a party. He could not decide between his green coat and his yellow one. He wore them both. On the way to the party Parrot encountered another bird friend that could not go to the party because his coat had holes everywhere. He was sad. Parrot had to think about it, but he did give his green coat to his friend for keeps. The verse was Luke 3:11 "“If you have two coats, give one away,” he said. “Do the same with your food.” The teacher question was on sharing. I asked her if there was something she had to share with someone else that she really did not want to give up and share. She sat there in quiet looking everywhere but at me. Her eyes teared up. I took her hand and asked her, "Is it hard to give up the attention from your parents right now with a new baby sister?" Then the tears fell. She asked me if God was mad at her because she was so sad to have to share them. I hugged her and told her no, but he was so happy that she knew it was something she had to share even if it was a struggle.
Roses are such a beautiful flower to share from the garden, from photos or from paintings. Roses are surrounded by thorns. It does not take but a split second and a gentle touch to have a thorn pierce your finger or arm when you are in your roses. This is so reflective of life. One of my favorite quotes is from Khalil Gibran "March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life's path."
This yellow rose if for the wife of a facebook friend. I have never personally met them but the past two years have been a difficult journey in their life as everything changed. I promised eight months ago to paint this rose and am totally upset with myself that it took this long to paint it. Life got in the way with Terry's surgeries and playing nurse and taking care of the household by myself. In between times, maintaining Visual Language Magazine and my own art. I am praying it can be a focus point for her that she can gaze upon it and think of beautiful thoughts.
Wishing you a day of Yellow Roses.

Yellow Rose: Friendship, Joy, Get Well. Throughout history, yellow has been closely associated with the sun, making these roses excellent for cheering people up. Yellow roses send a message of appreciation and platonic love without the romantic subtext of other colors. The color represents feelings of joy and delight. Readers Digest.
