It is the fourth day of Christmas already! Night Escape grew out of deep violets and finding colors with my knife to create the browns and contrasts with the bright green. This palette knife painting is not for the faint of heart.
I cannot tell you how very touched I am by all the email that has come through with the sign up for the 'promised newsletter'. As you might remember, I have not been diligent of writing or sending one out to you. I told my daughter it almost made me nervous being this responsible because i know how much I hate emails every morning. She keeps assuring me that it is only one a month. Your emails to me have warmed my heart and sent me in all directions with ideas of things to come.
One new collector-to-be saw one of my prints in a restaurant where she works and although she is not a 'horse lover' she loves the painting because of the lines and colors. There may be more to come on this story as we are corresponding on how to 'fix' that! Another follower, a fellow equine artist, wrote me that she was moved by my use of color and freedom with my knife. It is an honor for her to write and share her excitement about my work.
So, once I get through all the paperwork of the season, and find my balance, Lady L and I will be painting daily. Right now she comes over and does watercolors while I am working. She takes a break now and then and helps put up things on the shelves. Moving the studio upstairs is still something in progress.
She loves unpacking the boxes and seems to be as addicted to color as I am. Looking into the new year and knowing she has a new baby sister due to arrive soon, I know this 'mini me' granddaughter will be here more hours each day. You will get the opportunity to watch her grow and paint along side of me.
You might say she has big shoes to fill, but I think of it as Big CANVAS to paint! She is suddenly falling in love with painting more details on her flowers Her grandfather discovered a long packed book last week with full pages of brilliant color and flowers. She will sit and lovingly go through the pages oohing and ahing over what to paint. I will make sure I feature her work in my newsletter as well. You might want to start collecting Lady L pieces.
The year is drawing to a close soon. There is a satisfaction of seeing this year pass with all that has confronted us on the journey. God has a plan for all of us. 2015 gives us that feeling of starting anew or starting again. I would love to see you each not worry about resolutions but think about things that are important to you personally. I will share more on this thought later. Only so much fits in a daily journal. I will work to make these entries something you look forward to each day. And if you only stop by once a week, I want to make it count.
Blessings as we count down 2014.
Laurie
Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”
