Do you have any pretentious people or pretenders in your life right now? Are you a pretender? Sometimes it can get tangled when you are trying to develop new habits in life and you do that fake it till you make it thing. The important thing is not to pretend to yourself. Back to the old saying "To thine own self be true." By this time in your life you do know the difference.
When I was writing about self-concept yesterday and was cruising the internet I came across a thought I missed... for goodness sakes, look how many people are on Facebook today? Look how many do Twitter? How about bloggers and wordpress? What about websites? Iphones? Texting? What have we done with this younger generation? They have to list BIO information everywhere. BIO information that is shared with the world. Are some of these people you encounter on the internet 'pretenders' or are they who they say they are?
If you have teens in your household it might be a good thing to talk about self identity and what is in line to share with the entire world. Facebook has an age limit for youngsters, but I have friends in the UK who have a young one on Facebook and she had her account hacked already. Cover ground about NOT trying to make up things to sound interesting or exciting. Keep a low profile. KISS Keep it Simple Sweetie. We are asked so many questions from our favorite quote to what religion we are associated with to what age we are. This could be dangerous with all the predators out in the world.
They call this social networking... I call it Pretending. The pretense of sharing things that sound better, but may or may not be you. Keeping an image use to be an advertising slogan, but today it is life for our younger generation. Ben Cashnocha has a great article about this on the internet.
Ben is right when he said Keep your Identity Small... keep it safe and close to your heart.
