'Into the Sun'
24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas
The Painting: I was trying a larger version of a prior painting and still working on it touching up there and there...but it is available. All thick oils and a palette knife.
The Thought: Last night Paddy was nose to the window under the closed blind around 7:30 pm. I was busy at the kitchen table signing 300 posters for the Appaloosa Horse Show in Jackson Mississippi opening in about 10 days.... and heard him growling.
I walked around the table gently nudging him away from the window as I flipped up one of the blinds to peak outside. The sun was setting on the lake making it a silver shimmer of beauty reflecting the gold rays of late day. Next to the house between us and the lake was a herd of deer just grazing away and wagging their little tails. No wonder the dog was going berserk. He was struggling to get past my legs and stick his nose under the blind to watch the 'intruders' in his yard.
The silence was broken by his sudden bark. Terry immediately took him on the closed in back porch where he could not longer witness the invasion of the sunset deer. I decided to sit and watch them. Opening the blinds I sunk into a chair amazed at the simple dance of the deer on the lawn watching them interact with each other. Tails were wagging and I do believe they were smiling. They seem very young, some smaller than the others. As a car went down the street, the tallest one turned his head around to watch it and then he relaxed and began to graze again.
Seems like in our lives there is always something demanding our immediate attention. We are pushing breakneck to get it done. It is an intrusion in our life or something that must be faced and conquered...just like Paddy and his sunset deer. Terry removing him from that upset calmed him immediately down. Back to the old adage out of sight, out of mind.
As humans we struggle with that one. It is hard to get something 'out of sight' these days. We are always tempted back into the chaos as it looms up either physically in front of us or mentally in front of us. Granted it is not usually intruding deer grazing in the sunset, it is something bigger and more demanding. For me the grazing deer were a blessing that took me away from my demanding hour of signing posters...and I enjoyed that gracious gift from God.
For each of us it will be different. One person's 'nightmare' may be another person's 'dream'. God knows what is right for each of us. He knows I love the deer at sunset. Thank you for my evening blessing.
May your Sunday be filled with His goodness.
