The Painting: From my archives. Soft with the moment in winter when the wind stops and snow is piled high and even the cold does not feel cold....the horses are business as usual.
The Thought: Our daughter is a junior in high school and taking all the PSAT testing etc. We received a pamphlet in the mail from the school district, SAT PREP COURSE. Raise your Score on teh SAT, Enroll in the RISD SAT Prep course.
WHY? In the past 10 years since we sent our last one to college, the SAT has become the highest law into getting into college. SAT, ACT, and lots of paranoid parents putting the students through prep courses wanting their son/daughter to get into the best college. Why are we doing all of this? Why are we complicating our lives so much? WHY so much life prep in the wrong areas? More rules, more competition, more responsibilities to shove at our teens. More desperation that if you don't do this life will be nothing? How about a Life Prep Course in God's direction for our lives? HIS, not ours.
If you start me on the education system I will write volumes. I am still trying to figure out why we have to have constant repetition of the same course three to four times from jr high, high school to college. That would be US History and World History. Also through in Biology, chemistry etc etc. I do like how you can opt into AP classes in high school and get dual credit. THAT makes sense. May be we should consider the European way of education where you are done with the minor league stuff by age 15 or 16. THEN you go on to higher education of college or trade school to make your direction in life?
I think we press too hard on our kids and ourselves. I think we expect too much. We loose our uniqueness in our press to succeed. When we loose our uniqueness we appear to lose our connection to God... the more we press for what we term in this society as SUCCESS, the more we seem to drift further away from what God truly wants in our lives. We choose where we are...living in chaos and trying to survive.
My prayer for you today is to begin to sift through your personal chaos and see what you can tuck into a box... then give the box to God. Let Him take care of it.
