Saturday finds me here ready to paint. This is one I worked on yesterday. I think it is done. I like the play on colors and the subtle changes of light. Hence the title FINDING PEACE.

First I would suggest we examine the definition of peace. Webster tells me it is a state of tranquility or quiet; freedom from civil disturbance; freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions; a harmony in personal relationships.

Who would not want that in their life? The perfect state of tranquility...wow. I would believe in my heart most of you reading this would yearn for tranquility and quiet, even if it were only for a short fifteen minutes. Think what you could do if it were every day for most of your day?

Freedom from civil disturbance. I chuckled at that one. Civil disturbance within yourself is the norm for all of us. Our mind goes one way, our heart another. We are constantly pulled in opposing directions in most of our waking hours. Would it not be blessed NOT to have this?

Freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts. That my friend takes guts. Every time your begin a thought that is negative, STOP IT. Don't even go there. This will take practice, but you can do it. You can stop thinking those WHAT IF thoughts. Get those squirrels out of those cages in your head and SET THEM FREE!

Lastly, harmony in personal relationships. Once you seek the higher power that graces you with the peace, the power surrounding you will begin to seep into the lives of those around you and you would succeed in having peace and giving peace and promoting peace.

Where does this come from? First you must fill the emptiness within yourself. Unfortunately most of us strive to be "good" and do everything "perfect" and think all should be well. It is not.
If the Holy Spirit is not apart of your being at this time you cannot find that peace. With HS on board you will find new purpose in every thing and every one around you. You will find hope and goodness around every corner once you open up that relationship with God. He will grace you with the Holy Spirit.

JOY and Abundance,
Laurie

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." John 14:27

Mixed Media Collage Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Justus Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Horse Collage Fall 2013  12 x 18 inches Mixed Media on Canvas.  This was an intentional paint to imitate one of the 100 ponies I did in 2012. That poor little 8 x 10 pony was loved by a company to do very large prints and it was not here for me to even use to scan... so I created something with the same heart, a kindred spirit. The underlays are pages from a western book and then torn papers of different varieties were added along with stains of paint and purposeful areas of paint.  This would not be a painting I would do today, but the goal was to capture the spirit of the first painting. Laurie     © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2010 My Website   Thinking ahead to the Thanksgiving celebration next week, I remembered back to those previous dinners that I cooked, served, ate quickly, and cleaned up.  This is how I felt.  It is probably strange...even for me but I had the best fun sketching it out and painting it. We lost another dear family member this week. She has celebrated her 'continuation' day and is now with her mom and dad and her other cousins.  She leaves behind a family that will always celebrate her gentleness.  My aunt was special to all of us. She loved each of us dearly for who we were and was always ready with a hug or a 'good job'.    My memories are of breakfast pastries smeared with butter on top. It was not like they were not sweet enough as they were, but at her small kitch...

Sleeping Cowboy . Ernest Hemingway . Sunday, a day of rest . Western Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” Ernest Hemingway  I really enjoyed painting this scene. It was restful to me as the artist  and loved by our friends.  Sunday is the day of rest. I smiled when I found this in archives and thought it perfect for this day.  If you live in Texas you know that we still have 'rules' about not selling liquor before noon.  If you live in Texas and are in your late thirties and up, you might even remember Blue Laws.   Stores were simply NOT open...
