When I paint these compositions with Children and their music, it always takes me back to my early years at the piano and how much enjoyment I got from learning to play. I still play today and can sit there for hours and lose myself in the music.

Do you ever think, Can I ever get there? Do you ever think, Oh if I change this or this, things might work out better? I believe firmly for myself is one of my biggest mistakes (sins) is trying to control and make things better for everyone around me. I want things to work out right and every one to be happy. I want CHANGE to the positive. I want physical change here on earth.

What is missing is the fact that God constantly gives us prescriptions for change, but this change is not for getting better in the eyes of those around you here on earth, but getting better in God's eyes. All of us seem to conform to the whims of society and get caught up in the buy it now and make your life better scheme. To believe that materialistic things can bring that inner pleasure is lying to yourself. It might be satisfying for a week or so, but the newness wears off and you will be constantly searching again for something else to take it's place to "make it better".

If only I had a bigger home. If only I had a more reliable car, a new one that is covered by a warranty and then I would not be out repair money. If only I could find a better job with more benefits and pay..... We are all in this same place with ONLY IF.... I wish it was so simple to write to you and say do not conform any longer to the patterns of our world....but I know that would fall on deaf ears. It is too ingrained in us to want want want more more more. When you do not have God centered in your life and your family, you are missing out on great pleasures and treasures. We can never be perfect, but we can strive to be better and to follow the Lord.

The importance is to find your life's work that God wants you to do. As you step out God will lead you. God will shield you and God will feed you. It is a risk to separate yourself from that which is so familiar to you, following your desires. The time is now to access your talents and limitations and then step out committing to the Lord. It is then He will give you the desires of your heart.

Grace,
Laurie

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Mixed Media Collage Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Justus Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Horse Collage Fall 2013  12 x 18 inches Mixed Media on Canvas.  This was an intentional paint to imitate one of the 100 ponies I did in 2012. That poor little 8 x 10 pony was loved by a company to do very large prints and it was not here for me to even use to scan... so I created something with the same heart, a kindred spirit. The underlays are pages from a western book and then torn papers of different varieties were added along with stains of paint and purposeful areas of paint.  This would not be a painting I would do today, but the goal was to capture the spirit of the first painting. Laurie     © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2010 My Website   Thinking ahead to the Thanksgiving celebration next week, I remembered back to those previous dinners that I cooked, served, ate quickly, and cleaned up.  This is how I felt.  It is probably strange...even for me but I had the best fun sketching it out and painting it. We lost another dear family member this week. She has celebrated her 'continuation' day and is now with her mom and dad and her other cousins.  She leaves behind a family that will always celebrate her gentleness.  My aunt was special to all of us. She loved each of us dearly for who we were and was always ready with a hug or a 'good job'.    My memories are of breakfast pastries smeared with butter on top. It was not like they were not sweet enough as they were, but at her small kitch...

My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” Ernest Hemingway  I really enjoyed painting this scene. It was restful to me as the artist  and loved by our friends.  Sunday is the day of rest. I smiled when I found this in archives and thought it perfect for this day.  If you live in Texas you know that we still have 'rules' about not selling liquor before noon.  If you live in Texas and are in your late thirties and up, you might even remember Blue Laws.   Stores were simply NOT open...
