I'd Go Walkin Down the Avenue  Size: 16 x 20  Sold  Oil on Canvas.

This is not the norm for me to just paste a huge poem, but I have to:

“I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in. It's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault. I get out immediately.

walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

I walk down another street.”

Portia Nelson, There's a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self Discovery

It made me smile looking back on my life and the crazy things I must have lived through many times repeating the learning process.  This morning Terry and I were reading in Streams of The Desert for Jan 28th... we are little behind. It was comparing how a harpist tunes his harp to perfect harmony to how God 'tightens the strings' on us until we have that perfect melodious sound. When the string sounds harsh or false... a screw has to be turned to tighten or loosen the string to find exactly where it rings true.  So how often does God have to keep 'tuning' you to blend in with his infinite harmonies?  How often do you loosen yourself to be out of tune...over and over again.

Eventually we will all 'find' God's sidewalk, or stay in tune with his direction in our lives and blend in with his melody.

"And it will be: LIke people, like priests. I will punish both of them for their ways and repay them for their deeds." Hosea 4:9
