Easter egg hunt anyone?  Traditionally growing up there was always an Easter Egg Hunt at St Paul UCC in Dallas.  We had our baskets ready with colored plastic grass and had dug out of the the hard jelly beans from the year before buried at the bottom under the grass. Darn, how did we let that candy get away? What a waste. Remembering racing around trying to fill your basket with more eggs than anyone else?
What is in your basket this year?

Chocolate eggs? Jelly Beans? Chocolate Bunnies? Marshmallow Rabbits?  We all sigh thinking of our favorites.  I still have my original easter basket.  This had to be 1953 maybe?  I was about 15 to 16 months old.  This was at my Grandparent's farm in St Louis.

Many people have many stories and ideas how the 'Easter basket' ties into the celebration of the resurrection.  Sometimes I think of it more as the gathering in the basket of the beauty of the season... Spring, rebirth, flowers, and more.

I am not keen on adding chocolate and piling on more sugar into our baskets.  Have not dyed eggs in years with it just being Terry and I ...but we do fill our baskets.  I will put something small in his like a desired CD, or a dark chocolate bar, and always a handwritten note with an exchanged thought expressing the beauty of the resurrection and our faith.  If you have been reading my blog any length of time you know we go back a long long way. I was 11 and he was 13.

Give some thought to something different this weekend to fill your basket. Fill it with the bounty God has provided and recognize the sacrifice Jesus made for each of us.

My Basket will be full...

Terry will fill my basket with roses. That is what I will find Easter Morning.   The thought of Jesus in his crown of thorns takes me to my roses and the connection of beauty to the pain Christ bore. It is a personal symbolism for me. Terry planted 13 rose bushes in our backyard last year and from Easter forward I have blooms to cut and bring inside to enjoy each day.

Blessings... Laurie

Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,  who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God.  Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.  It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin. Luke 23:50-54
