no. 7 Hearing the Call Contemporary Modern Art Palette Knife Horse Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 36 x 2 inches of THICK buttery oils applied with a palette knife. Contact me for more information: Laurie How did it get to be six thirty already? I have been sitting here an hour and just now blogging. I had to make my way through a truck load of email. That is how. Okay so I was surprised this morning. As I set out to meditate and pray and read in my bible about what to write about this morning I read "Always be generous, open purse and hands, give to your neighbors in trouble, your poor and hurting neighbors." Deuteronomy 15:11 I am (Pardon the pun) "Hearing the Call". In contrast at night I am still reading "Setting Boundaries for your Adult Children". Humm, they are indeed my neighbors in trouble, but somehow I have to set some boundaries here. I can't help but wonder if the Lord thinks that about us sometimes. When the Israelites settled
SELF PORTRAIT Contemporary Art Daily Painters Challenge January 2008 Self Portrait by Laurie Justus Pace 8 x 10 inches Oil on Linen I cannot image WHO would want to buy my self-portrait, but contact me if you are interested in commission work! Laurie I was ready to blog at seven this morning but then read my emails and realized we were suppose to post self portraits today. I have one done back in 1995 and it is 2/3rds complete. I also have a watercolor done LEFT handed in 2003 but I do not know where it resides in my portfolio cases. So I decided to paint one from scratch. I had my FAVORITE RED SCARF made by Charlotte in Sacramento, and I tossed it around my head, snapped a few shots and then printed one out to work by. This is 2 and a half hours later and you have my self portrait. If all of a sudden you got this visit from the Angel Gabriel to your home...yes he just appears next to you in the kitchen, or across from you sitting in the living room....what would you do? Most of
no. 6 Tying the Slipper Contemporary Art Ballerina Slipper Daily Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 8 x 10 inch Oil on Linen Contact me to purchase: Laurie RAINEX. Have you ever tried that on your car windshield? If you have not, GO BUY IT TODAY. Terry has always used it on our cars. I think they use it exclusively on the airplanes...imagine those big birds in the sky and a rain storm. That jingles my nerves. We were on our way early this morning through treacherous traffic to Metro VW. My baby car needed a new fan for the heater/AC and there were drips of oil on the floor of the garage and she needed a new fuel filter. Irregardless, as we left at 8 this morning (Yes, that is why I am blogging late) it was in rain rain rain and sleet sleet sleet the further west we drove toward the mid cities area. Terry had a new coating of Rainex on the windshield and we were driving along with out the tension of the blades going whish whish and click click and the nervous scurry of the windshiel
no. 5 Thoughts Contemporary Art Daily Painting Figurative by Laurie Justus Pace SOLD 12 x 16 x 2 inches Acrylic on Canvas Contact me to purchase. Laurie Sunday morning has arrived. Yesterday I traveled with my brother Kirk and my Mom up to Bonham to see Dad at the VA Home. We left Dallas after a stop at Starbucks where Kirk had a REDEYE?? and I had one of their normally yummie bowls of oatmeal. This time it was disappointing and very runny. I didn't waste but one remark because I knew a good lunch was ahead! Dad didn't recognize me at all when we arrived. He was sitting in the lobby with several other patients watching television. We were debating between walking the mall in Sherman TX about 25 miles east, or going up to Denison to the new Main Street Arts District. I was glad when my brother turned northeast to Denison. The town wasn't what I remembered but I could see that the downtown area had undergone a transformation and indeed was filled with several

Remember the painting that was SUNRISE OVER >>>>>>>>> well, this is it, Sunrise over Ft Collins, CO. Rafer Yocom surprised his wife Christmas Morning. Gay'l had of course been reading my blog and had seen the SUNRISE OVER________ and thought someone was getting something special.... it was her and it was all the wonderful planning of a loving husband and family. Gay'l and I have spoken recently. She is an artist as well and I look forward to seeing some of her work on the blog she plans to start this new year! What a treasure this was. Thank you! I woke this morning to an email from my daughter Stacey. It brought back immediately flashbacks to 28 years ago. I was on bed rest pregnant with my youngest son, Morgan. Great Granddaddy Haskell was in a nursing home at age 93 and was not
PONY UP no. 3 Contemporary Art Daily Painting Horse Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 24 x 2 inches Acrylic on Canvas SOLD With the new year I know resolutions and decisions are made to develop new habits and toss out old ones. Unfortunately many go by the wayside before the last day of January. Heck, mine didn't make it past last night. We took Mom out to eat at the Magianno's where Morgan works. We had one of the best booths in the room, and him waiting on us. The head chef came out and introduced himself and then allow us to just tell him what we wanted. How many restaurants will do this? Mom and I both ordered tilapia. She had hers over spinach; although I love spinach, it gives me kidney stones... I had grilled squash with mine. Both dishes had a lemon butter wine sauce that was dreamy and smooth and very tasty. Terry didn't get to choose. The Chef informed him Morgan had chosen his food already. We sat in quiet anticipation as Morgan brought our salads. Mom and I
In the Light, Peonies No 1 Contemporary Floral Flower Art Daily Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 30 x 24 x 2 inches of Oil on Canvas Contact me: Laurie "For God made two great lights, the sun and the moon, to shine down upon the earth. The greater one, the sun presides during the day and the lesser one, the moon presides through the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the heavens to light the earth, to govern the day and the night and to separate the light form the darkness. And God saw that is was good." Genesis 1:16-18 A huge light bulb went off in my head as I read this verse early this morning. I began to realize the power of the Sun in our universe. God is the power of the sun, its energy and it's light. Then there is the moon that revolves around the earth. The moon would not have the power of light with out the Sun. We are like that moon. We are darkness with out the light that God shines onto us. In turn we are to reflect that light into the
SNOWFALL Contemporary Art Horse Palette Knife Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Contact me for Commission work: Laurie As I close out the year of 2008, the flashes in my mind recall the rapid decline of my dad with his Alzheimers; my mom with her health and three hospitalizations; the closing down and moving of my mom from her home of almost 40 years; the horrendous months of no gas or electricity in this house and constant construction all around me; the free fall of the stock market and our economy; my youngest son's two bad motorcycle accidents within one week; etc. Then I smile with the joy balanced out by my daughter's pregnancy; my gallery shows in New York, Jackson Hole, Dallas and Marble Falls; an increase of sales of my art work; my mother's health improving; finding a new relationship with my older brother; watching our oldest friend be elected Sheriff of Franklin County; having electricity and gas working again in the house;

I must type quietly. I went to bed at seven thirty last night and was asleep in ten minutes. I was talking to Stacey on the phone as my eyelids went shut. After nine hours of sleep, I was wide awake this morning. So while he continues to sleep, I am blogging and doing paperwork for shipping. All the company is gone as of last night. Today is a day filled with wash, wash and more wash. I transferred pictures from the chili party to a slide show and will post that below. After al

MIXING COLORS Contemporary Art Horse Daily Painting Palette Knife by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas This is a repaint of a painting posted earlier. The first painting sold and went to live on the west coast. Someone from south Texas ask for a similar painting. I do not like to do that as you can never capture the same feel a second time. I did it but she still wanted something else...so here you have MIXING COLORS. This piece has 10 layers of paint and very thick piles of paint through out the surface. SOLD Has to be a short blog. I have been busy at the computer and it is already 7:30. The house has to be cleaned and food finished for tonight's festivities. I think I am going to branch out today to a sore subject in this family. STUBBORNNESS. Humm, do any of you know anyone like this? Stubbornness evolves from pride. We all think we know it all or we want others to think we know it all. We hold firm and stay inflexible in thinking and doing because we kn
Yellow Flowers Contemporary Art Daily Painting Flowers by Laurie Justus Pace 8 x 10 Watercolor Contact me to purchase or for commission work: Laurie This is Christmas Eve LATE NIGHT. We were eating See's Candy sent by a close friend in Sacramento. She always knows Terry loves his candy. This is late late Christmas Night and I was worn out from 6 hours of cooking and then an hour of cleaning up. Thank you Jan for your help and ever busy hands! Also Mac for pitching in that morning in the kitchen with cooking. THANK YOU GOD! I have to stay with thoughts of bible stories this morning. I keep remembering the wise judgment of King Solomon when two prostitutes came before the king. Both had given birth to babies. A few days later, one baby had died and the sneaky mother took her dead baby and laid it at the breast of the other sleeping mom. She slipped the live baby out from next to her and took that baby to her bed. When the one mother awoke and saw the dead child she was upset
