It is early morning, but I wanted to share this REFLECTIVE painting with you. I just finished it, and it was a beauty to paint! Full color, palette knife and buttery Holbein Duo Oils, what more could I ask for! We continue on our floor journey. Terry is a bit tired and down in the back...but we are 3/4 of the way done, with the most difficult room ahead, the kitchen and utility room...moving the dreaded washer and dryer. We may take a few days break from it all and go to the lake! I noticed my brother's blog is up on his kitchen redo...glad it is him and not me, but when I think of the great food that comes out of his kitchen...can't wait to see what happens with the new one! I leave you with these thoughts, " Count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." James 1:2-4.
Baptism "I baptise you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire." Matthew 3:11 I am posting this piece of work for a collector/new friend in NC. It was completed I think in 2000 or 2001. It is a watercolor and I still have the original. Somethings that I paint, I keep. There is such deep meaning in it and I am not ready to let it go to a new home. Certain paintings are meant to be in specific homes and until I have the calm that it is time to sell it, I keep it and wait. This same collector just purchased another piece of mine that took honors in 2002 in an International Art Show in Dallas and then exhibited with the Dallas Business Committee for the Fine Arts. I have had it hanging in my home since then and have turned down numerous offers to purchase it. The time came and the right buyer has this unique piece coming to her home. Reunion 200
The Magnolias at Mema's My mom has a huge, absolutely HUGE Magnolia tree in her front yard. I love to go and sit in the shade and sketch the flowers and the blooms off of it. My sketch book must now have a dozen sketches to work from over the next few months! This is painted on a 24 X 24 inch canvas and is a bit fauvistic in flavor, not your run of the mill flower painting, but a composition that breathes with life and color. In my work I lean toward a touch of color everywhere because that is my love, working with reflections of light and unusual color combinations! Hope everyone's day is well. Terry and I worked on floors until after ten last night. Not sure who is more tired, but I know his back hurts more than mine! We walked the dogs for two miles this morning hoping to work out the kinks, but the high today is 106 degrees and it is already warm outside! "Go in peace. The journey on which you go is under the eye of the Lord." Judges 18:6 Grace, Laurie
Sunrise Over the Village is a companion piece to Moon Over the Village. Holbein Duo Oils painted on Masonite Board...thick brush strokes with buttery paint! Almost sounds good enough to eat. Will be working on another Oak Tree Painting today and will finish up some magnolias. Which ever is finished will be posted in the morning. We are over 100 degrees again today for over 35 days in a row. Can anyone send rain to us here? "For thy steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in faithfulness to thee." Psalms 26:3 Grace, Laurie
Good morning from the Studio. In the midst of painting walls in our home...I did finish this painting! Contrasting reds, yellows and leaf green make up the background as the rider and his horse send dirt flying around you as you watch the movement. They have predicted hot hot hot temps today, so I am off to walk the dogs before starting my housework. THEN I will be back painting today.... I am leaning to a new oak for the day, more to come tomorrow. Laurie
A good friend, Larilyn, is always asking when I will do an Appaloosa. I wrote her when I finished this and sent her a jpeg! This appy emerged so gracefully and very dimensionally from the canvas as I painted. Gentle colors blending from the horse into the background. It was magical as it painted and as always, when working, a pleasure as I have to solve and evolve in the piece as it progresses. Hope your Sunday is good! We actually had RAIN last night. Twenty minutes of rain! It has been months and our drought continues... please send some to Texas if you can. Laurie
Savage Garden was playing and I was rocking at the easel when this beauty came to light. I started with a gentle white palette in the background broken with shadows of purple and blues. As the horse began to form the colors became vivid. With white already established in the background, I had to work with blending colors, or wait until it dries to repaint. I took the chance and shot pictures as I went along. I put them in photo shop and them look at their mirror images to gauge where I am in the painting. It was LATE or should I say early this morning when I finished this baby. I heard the dogs from the studio and just put them out and discovered a slight misty rain...won't last long but at least I can pretend for a few minutes that it is raining outside~ Laurie
Good morning to all! Today's painting is bright with color and thick with paint. Entitled Moon Over the Village , this composition captures the life with color and vivid brush strokes of movement. Here at the house Terry has continued painting our bedroom. We slept on our bed shoved partially under the dining room table last night. I felt like a six year old camping out in my own house. The dogs were restless with us not in our normal place and at six this morning they let me know it was time to get up! BUT, my bedroom is a wonderful Lavender Twilight and wood floors will follow today. Hope you are having a great summer. School has started back in our district. My own classes start back up in a few weeks. Laurie
SUMMER HEATWAVE HITS TEXAS Yeah and what else is new.... so this morning I painted more brilliant sunflowers in the heat of the day. Brilliant yellows and pinks fill the background and the flowers pop out in the day's heat! Enjoy this beauty! Laurie
As we were landing in St Louis on Saturday, we looked down from the window of the American Airlines 757 to the GORGEOUS GREEN farm lands around St Charles Missouri. White farm houses dotted the green fields with strands of roads running and crossing the countryside. It was evident they had rain in this state, unlike north Texas where we remain critically under a drought with wells running dry and folks with out water. Today's painting is SUNRISE ON THE MISSISSIPPI, inspired by our trip north.
August 8, 2006 We have been in St Louis for my aunt's 85th birthday and just returned. I hope to paint later this afternoon so stay tuned for a new posting and painting tomorrow! The trip was filled with memories, laughter and love. I am so glad we were able to sneak away for the short time we did....back to real life again. Laurie
August 5, 2006 Two little girls...just finished it up. Two little girls telling secrets in the garden. I may take two days off, but will return again posting. A mini vacation as we lay wood floors in one of the bedrooms! Takes two to do it, moves faster!
