How can I keep it, conceal it, bury it where I may never lose it? I want to kneel as it falls over me like rain, gather it up with lace and silk, and press it over myself again.” ― Anaïs Nin, Henry & June These are two more close ups in the painting. There are hearts painted throughout the piece as well as centralized and it has "GOD" right above the heart.  It is in Lady L's handwriting or printing at the time. The drawing below is another one from her sketch book. I used many of her sketches in bits a

Is the rain falling on the sunshine? Painting in Progress by Laurie Pace

"What is it like?"..."It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine...” ― Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden Not sure you can tell, but I wiped off more of the yellow on the forehead, deepened the shadows on the face, brought up the light on the face and added more to the hair.  I also raised the values surrounding her face.  This week you will see the finished painting.  I want to share some of the pieces of it close up. "Land that drinks in the

I am doing a lot of this while working on this painting.  Layers and layers of paint and experience building here on the canvas and in my soul.  &quo

Let it Rain . . . Abstract Painting in Progress by Laurie Pace

We all seem to want to be noticed in life.  Some of us dress the part, some speak the part, some serve the part. There is not right and wrong in this... it is the part of you that seeks to stand out in life.  I spent most of my life wanting to stay hidden,

You say you love sun, but you seek shelter when it is shining. You say you love wind, but when it comes you close your windows. So that's why I'm scared when you say you love me.” ― Bob Marley This is not the finished painting. Two more weeks of work followed this image. This is where I came back to my senses and began shooting the progress again. I had wipes out most of the figure and added a horse, sidewalk drawings of Lady L, a house on the hill and lots of other buried st

Let the Rain Kiss You . . . Figurative Abstract painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby.” ― Langston Hughes I shot this image after I did major rainfall to the canvas. Please notice the light yellow wash that started the entire process.  It was before the horse is added...and yes there is a horse coming. This painting is suppose to reflect my happy place when things seem strained and overwhelming. Where do you go? My treasure lies in watching my granddaughter draw with her sidewalk chalk in her bright rai

I was better after I cried . . . Abstract Figurative Painting in Progress by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

I was better after I had cried, than before--more sorry, more aware of my own ingratitude, more gentle.” ― Charles Dickens, Great Expectations You can see by the photo today I am wound tight on painting... slightly more to the realistic than I do anymore.  I know by where I am today that I have to go a different direction soon.  The problem is when I did, I went SO FAR the other direction, I did not take pictures. The proces

Rain grows flowers, not thunder . . . Figurative Abstract Painting in Progress by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.” ― Jalaluddin Rumi This is the beginning . . .  I had the perfect picture of Lady L in her raincoat and with this new painting, the idea of her being a part of the entire piece. It was begun without thought to destination and only the journey of the moment I was in painting. God provides the seasons for us to grow. With it comes the sunshine and the rain and the gentle winds. Before he created you, he knew you. He knew what gifts you would have, your strengths, your weaknesses an

The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.” ― Henri J.M. Nouwen, Out of Solitude: Three Meditations on the Christian Life This was the sunset th
