Most people are not in the middle... they do one or the other.  It is a choice we all make if we form walls or barriers or if we build bridges to cross and meet others. While it is true, we all need our space and boundaries set in our lives, but do we need to erect a wall to do this?  I know in my life I often need a spiritual wall of protect

Schulz Happiness is yours. It says so by our Founding Fathers.  In America we have "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".   Do you have it? Happiness is yours ONLY if you chose it to be yours.  It seems elusive at best, but it truly is there you just have to look at things differently.   We cannot control circumstances around us.  We cannot control outcomes. I know in our Bible study it spoke about control and circumstances. God has this... He really does. We tend to get into mindsets that things can only be one way and wh

Twilight Fell . . . Flower Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix This was a painting probably from 2007 maybe or even 2006.  I love the freedom and  the relaxed brushwork in the painting.  It was time for a throwback this week.  The color purple has always been a favorite in my home... in various shades of violet to the deepest of eggplant.  Purple embodies the balance between the stimulation of warm red and cool blue.  This can cause unrest or uneasiness for some people because it is not easily defin

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” ― C.G. Jung This is one of those quotes you need over your bathroom mirror when you get up each morning. It is too easy to look outside of ourselves and busy ourselves with 'things' and avoid facing reality. Living to grasp life at its fullest is rare these days. Too much time distracted by computers, phones and ipads. No longer do we consider face to face conversations valuable, or handwriting a letter. Even in our schools the

Good Guys Wear White, Right? Contemporary Abstract Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

You need a white hat. Good guys wear white, right? Roarke: I look better in black.” ― J.D. Robb, Treachery in Death So this is the guy in the white hat... he is in the lead and he is in the light.  He has plunged through the ribbon at the finish line and nothing but calm lays before him as he breaks into the peace. When was the last time you felt you had ARRIVED?  That for the moment and maybe a day... you are safe, good and it feels like nothing could happen.  Those are rare times. Life and the years I have lived remind me of

One Cannot Exist Without the Other Painting Progress by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

One cannot exist without the other.” ― Victoria Aveyard, Red Queen So with the theme of the show being the Calm after the Storm, it pulled me into you cannot have the calm if you don't have the storm.  It is that Yin Yang thing.  Love/hate; tears/laughter; sad/happy; day/night.  I think you get my point.  So in the painting I am thinking of contrasting things. Each horse had to have something that makes them apart and unique from the others. What is a painting without contrast?  Pretty dull.  Meet the Red horse just breaking from the storm.  Life/death.

You Will Never Be The Same Person . . . Laurie Pace Contemporary Horse Paintings

You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” ― Haruki Murakami This is the horse still moving through the storm. He is represented by the dark blues reflecting the darkness of the sky, wind and rain surrounding him. His white mane whips in the wind but the strength of his body and legs propels him forward after the other horses

Do People Notice You? Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

It's actually the quiet ones who often draw the most attention. There's this constant whirlwind of motion and sound all around, and then there's the quiet one, the eye of the storm.” ― Amy Efaw, After Painting for a show at Mirada.  I am all over the studio and sketchbooks with ideas. I told him maybe one horse,... but you never know.  So this one is three horses.  The Calm after the Storm is in reference to the turmoil of last year and I am assuming the Presidential election.  I am
