I finished this painting and it will either be in the new gallery opening in Salt Lake City in February OR it will be on my website.   Have you had many of those cliffhanging moments in life? What happened?  Most of mine use to show up in dreams. Lately those moments have faded into the past. It is best to let things go and let God take care of them.   In my readings over the past five years, the most important thi

Cummings Excitement is growing. You can now see all those blues and mauves and grays filled into the background. I chose to go with golden yellow and a tiny bit of orange in contrast to those gorgeous shade of blue, spacing this brighter color to go from the top right of the canvas and take the eye all the way through diagonally to the bottom left of the canvas.  I am beginning this first part of the painting using several wide

Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next.   Delicious Ambiguity.” ― Gilda Radner When I begin a painting, I really have no idea where it is going to go. Something’s have to come out of me unplanned or the process loses the spontaneity that I see on the canvas. There is never a clear shot of a beginning, a middle or an

Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings Well, I ended up tinkering on this painting this weekend. I thought I had it finished when I posted it last week showing the piece. As you can see, I went back in and added a little bit of accents with black as well as lighting up the snow.  Now that the new year has started, Terry and I are back working on projects in the house. I can hear his hammer going right now as I am typing this blog.  He has been busy in the kitchen finishing up touch up wor

The second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. The first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking." [War With Honour, 1940]” ― A.A. Milne I love this painting.  It came with passion and not thought.  I entitled it Second Thought because it grew out of a prior attempts to 'get it right'. So at the time I painted it in 2007, it was Second Thought.  The weave of painting and color is pretty unusual and I can honestly say this weave has not happened again. Th

It's easier to feel the sunlight without them, she said.” ― Brian Andreas, Story People: Selected Stories & Drawings of Brian Andreas Sometimes I find these quotes and they truly take hold of my heart and soul.  This is one of those. We carry so much of life with us and because of it we remain distracted to the 'sunlight' or things God has sent to us.  When you are over involved, lost trying to help someone battle their storms, taking on too much to carry in life. . .  YOU MISS OUT.  You are so busy doing other things you fail to feel the sunlig

Hinckley I am at the hold and wait point.  That is wisdom.  Not jumping and pushing when I am not sure of the next step or the colors I want to infuse.  I just could not stay muted.  Raspberry surprised me though and of course to follow it turquoise and a soft gold.   Maybe that is muted for me? It shall bake and I will take pictures again tomorrow... I will share it and then it will sit and bake some more while I study it. Meanwhile It is entitled "Sunlight Play" and i

I thought perhaps I would do a muted piece but for some reason my soul struggles to put out the color. It is like putting out the light. It is like forcing my nature to do something that does not feel comfortable.  So I am not sure where this will go this week but will take you along with me.   After the soft layer was applied a week ago, I came into the studio and using caramel brown, sketch
