Fun. Fun.  Happy smiles is what reflects to me off this painting. I wish I could paint like this all the time... wait a minute, I CAN! I can paint like this anytime I want to. I am not limited.  From the Illusions books :   “if you argue for your limitations they are yours” ― Richard Bach, Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah  And WHY do we limit ourselves so much?  Why do we buy into things from our subconscious that simply are not true. Why do we feel so inadequate?   From   the Illusions book :  “You are never given a

I sketched from another painting that was a three on the run group of buffalo using the same mountain edge and then began to toss the colors in attempting to capture the movement of the day.  The colors were BURSTING with intensity. This is a piece for a March Show at Mirada featuring four artists and the west.  This one runs high with energy for sure. I will post the final next journal. I sway back and forth on whether I like the blues, reds and yellows or the tucked in accents of green and orange.

My students loved Texas History and not one of them failed the course when I taught it. Texas history is deep and exciting. Texas has evolved over and over again and so have the residents of Texas.  Now I am not a born Texan, but I am married to one and all our kids are Texas born.  Oh yes, it makes a difference. Don't tell, I am from Missouri.  We are still trying to figure out how our son in la

I do not budge on those. One went to Dutch Art and was sold to someone I knew wanting one.  I have never EVER EVER sent them out of the state or had them in any other gallery. Only that one, in a Dallas Gallery. Steve Sonnen at Mirada Fine Art has a plan. He has a show. It is the best of the west in Colorado. He has my horses. He has my wolves. He does not have a longhorn. I have avoided the subject.  Well with the show involving four artists, and I am honored to

Pansy on Parade . Preparing your Garden .  Laurie Pace During all the cold weather, the freezes, the ice, the plummeting night time temps in the teens... something was growing in the garden. We had cleaned all the plants out when the first freeze hit in late October. I even cut all the marigolds and brought them in to enjoy. But something grew taller and taller with large leaves on it.  Finally I went out to inspect the garden to see what was there. I thought maybe some lettuce was coming up. But to my surprise it was broccoli. I

Meanwhile the roses have done well on the southeast side of the house and I cannot wait to start cutting blooms for my vases. I have small buds beginning already.  With this being Lent, there is a double time spent on time in prayer. For me it is not just the giving up of things special to me, but the giving to others of things special to me.   Lady L was reading in her school story book about a parrot that had two coats to wear to a party. He could not decide between his green coat and his yellow one. He wore t

Moody Blues. It was huge. Probably 3 x 4 ft in size. Pile that paint high... pile that paint even higher. I recall thinking that same thought about the hamburger Terry ate last week. We were basically Forks over Knives and somehow he has weaseled more meat into this house as of late. I have lentils today...will have them tomorrow too.  So he is being so helpful last week cooking while I was painting in between his runs up and down the stairs putting in wood flooring. He had bought two pounds of hamburger. ???  There are only two of us and

It is so evident in paintings like this. The original painting contributing totally to the final painting and yet 180 degrees different. The wolves gained in strength as I resurfaced bold strokes of color with my knife and established a sense of movement in the air around them. Definitely would not want to meet these two in the woods at night.  What were you like as a child? What are you like as an adult?  Did you learn anything along the way?  Have you noticed th
