Scott Fitzgerald I signed up for Nancy Medina's class, her new online class.  She has an incredible approach to painting and is a superb instructor.  I used my own tulip images but did use her vase in this painting. I like to be able to sell my work and I do not feel right if I use someone else's photos and there are 400 of those paintings out there by each member in the class.  So these are my sunny red tulips on a gorgeous

Tolkien, The Hobbit Well I do like it this way!  A bit risky but more of what I am enjoying but still not where I want to wander entirely.  I love the light of the moon and the highlights in the piece. I love the ebb and flow of the paint and feel the strength in the painting itself.  It came a journey and I had to let go of the foundation sketch and let the paint go where it wanted to go. 1 Chronicles 28:20 "David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do th

I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”― Thomas A. Edison Looking at this is terrifying.  Failure and NOT the path I had in my head.  WHY did I deviate?  Totally wrong not trusting myself and the Holy Spirit inside of me to let it go.  Go another direction.  I had that beautiful sketch all on the canvas and SMOOOO comes out. UGLY to my eyes. I scraped it. So come back to the next blog and see what it became.  I took the sketch as the foundation and built upon this mess to get where I am going but NOT where my vision is yet. Deuteronomy 31:8  &quo

I have this idea in my head but I cannot seem to get there yet.   Hard to let go and just take off knowing there will be quite a few blown canvas in the journey.  Taking Risks.  Risky subject.  If we stay in one place we never get anywhere.  It is a new week... make some changes in life and take some risks.  I will if you will. Deuteronomy 31:6  " Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, fo

Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.” ― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist Notice as I finished this piece up the background values are reduced as I felt they were too strong. Looking back at it now I see I should have brought some of the mid orange into the body of the horse... and not just the red.  But I still love the contrast and

Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness I have dug this progress painting out of my 2012 work... again for a collector in Australia. This is near the end but not the finished painting.  I had to bring up the intensity of the background to match the strength of the horse.   Remember this is a large painting... 42 inches tall... about 28 wide.  Nearing the end of this journey the last paint strokes are the most important. ... Sort of the salt an

I am working with colors requested by the collector and loving how it is weaving together. Everything is here at my touch... on my palette, from my spirit, from the Holy Spirit to finish this painting. The journey continues.  "Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning

Do you use all of this in your work?  You are everything you have done in your life... the go

Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring A trip back to my studio at the lake.  I am filling some of this in for me to have images of the current things I am painting right now.  This is the beginning stages of a commission painting that was for a collector in Australia. The canvas is painted with Blue Acrylic and then White chalk to sketch off the horse. When you are planning something how do you begin your planning? In the studio my work always begins with prayer for the Holy Spirit to guide me in my work.  If I forge
