So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.” ― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky Yes, I painted in New York back in 2008. We had moved to Dallas the winter before and my Mom had a serious of bad health issues and my Dad's health was not in a good place.  We grabbed Mom and flew up to Washington DC and drove up to the Finger Lake Region to Visit my friend Billie Bauman.  I painted Billie's Dog, Fast

I chose worn-out red flats. I figured I should make it clear from the start that I wasn’t princess material.” ― Kiera Cass, The Selection I love this quote... I could never be princess material either and I worry about the 'princess' mentality in our younger girls.  They are surrounded by Disney princesses. With all the over marketing the girls wear shirts, dresses, pjs, shoes, crowns, phones, computers, chairs, bedspreads... it goes on and on and on. They are literally brainwashed by it all. Thank you media! Thank you

Heard my dad say this often when I was little.. but I learned quickly how true it was.  Even death does not avoid the IRS. UGH. So, when did you take a chance in life lately? What was it?  Anything from a move across country, a new job, a new store, a new friend, a new route to work... it could be anything.  Our leap of faith was this multigenerational family.  S

His hat was old, his coat was threadbare - there were holes at his elbows; the water passed through his shoes and the stars through his soul.” ― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables Guided to the water, the horses gather for drink.  We are guided in life by our choices as well. In this age of media and computers and cell phones... we are guided to be constantly connected.  We cannot go to sleep at night without checking our phones, texts, email etc.   We wake in the morning and grab our phone or ipad and begin our day w

The trip has been long and the cost has been high... but no great thing was ever attained easily. A long tale, like a tall Tower, must be built a stone at a time.” ― Stephen King, The Dark Tower What have you built of your life? What is the tale to tell of your life's journey? What stands out strong and good and what do you hide that no one knows?  I have my regrets... one very deep one and another one almost as deep.  I was young with one of them and very inexperienced. The other I was older and made t

None of them move off beat.  It is harmonious and graceful.  As we are partnered in life with friends, spouses, family, jobs etc, we find we have to be part of the 'harmony&

From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring Riches... what are they?  What are they to you?  Gold? Is it getting through the month and not worry about paying bills?  It is affording groceries every week?  Is it just worry as to covering getting your nails done or going

Neither need you do anything but be yourself.” ― Lao Tzu Keep hoping for cooler temps. Posting a horse in the snow seem to help the heat. Dallas remains 10 degrees warmer than it should be right now. Need one of those strong cold fronts to push through but that is usually the first week of November. Just need some relief! I love this quote about being yourself.  I am so so so working on that. I have spent most of my years of my life trying to be what everyone else wants me to be, OR what I think they want

The same as the stories they tell. We trap ourselves.” ― Chuck Palahniuk, Haunted Was listening to a minister on Sunday morning and heard that same thing I have known forever... we own our pain.  We seem to nurture it and keep it around, never allowing things to heal.  We never allow ourselves to move on. We trap ourselves. We keep that pain in the deepest area of our heart and mind... but that is right where the pain is overwhelming.  Why do we do it to ourselves?   It is time to let some of y
