The original painting was with brush.  I just could not stand it. I love the simplicity and weave of textures, but piled paint is my expertise.   You can see as I worked the flowers took a dramatic change as did the vase. I added two loose flowers on the tabl

Making AMAZING Changes... Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

It hung around in the studio for me to study it and decide if it was working or not working. Not working was the red mane.   Here was the before: I came back to the canvas and began lightening the background in the upper left corner and reworking the manes on the horses.  I did some additional touch ups here and there as well.  The mood of the painting soared forward with those simple changes. It amazes me to see what coming back to the canvas really can do to finish off a painting. Every painting has a story and a journey.

The colors are the leaves on the trees outside my windows... some still green, others slightly brown and many with shades of red and orange. I wish the  first freeze  was soon but that is usually in late N

I guess that is where the name of the painting came from.  There are times in life we simply just do things with no regards to consequences for ourselves or others nearby.  Freedom with paint always leads to fun and exploration and this tiny painting is exploding with power and strength.  Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acc

I used the pulled effects in the background but I went wilder with the palette knife cutting up the paint layers on the bull itself.  If you know anything about stock you know there is a bull market and a bear market. The bull is what you want. Most of us want a balance in life for peace a

I did two contemporary horses paintings in the studio yesterday afternoon both went on panels primed with soft sherbet orange.   My color addiction always erupts.  I really had fun painting in acrylic for

I love the rusty red that flowed through this painting. All the colors of what I see outside appearing in brilliance on the surface.  Every now and then I have to do an acrylic painting. It will be back to Oils tomorrow. Long walks in the morning have been delicious.  Cool enough to wear a jacket but then by mid morning... getting warm again. This has to be my favorite time of the year.  “At no other time (than autumn) does the earth let itself be inhaled in one sm

Using the pulled paint method, the colors pulled together two visible horses in the painting. I decided to keep it simple and not pull so many bright colors into it. Not everyone loves a rainbow painting.  The mission in the studio is to enjoy my journey wo
