When the sun rises... the first light of day has not broken through the deep mist of night and the quiet tones across the landscape.  When it does make that push upward and light fills in between the leaves, grass, gardens etc... the earth is alive with color!  Same with these horses I entitled Color Rising. Layers of color and overlays create this entire painting, keeping part of the realism and losing to abstract shapes throughout the horses. The Painted Pony Pulls! Should I paint more of them? Triggered by color and thick buttery oils, they have been the life dream of painting since 2002. Picking up a palette knife and starting to lay color up is always exciting. Sometimes I will use a tube of paint and dot marks of paint all over the surface before I begin to pull them toge

Often when I am painting, I will do two things...  The first is to reverse the photo from left to right. There I can see all issues with balance or color.  We are all one eye dominate and that controls how we see things!  You can put a photo or painting in front of the mirror or use your iphone and then edit and flip it.   See below. Flipping a painting left to right to check composition. Values are a bit harder...  Taking a photo or painting into black and white with gradients allows you to see the values and balance of a piece of work. Values are lights and darks. Can you see them? Squint at it, it will help! Using Values and looking at a painting in Black and white Both of these proces

This painting, A Swirl of Dreams, is in the holding process !  Meaning I worked on it two or three weeks, adding layer after layer and I think I am done, but I have to watch it for a few days!  Every child, and especially little girls, like to twirl and swirl in circles.  The world blurs to colors and light and creates a joyful place to dream. Do you Dream? I always was a dreamer and I loved to read... today I have been diving into a book called 27,000 Steps by Sara Thurman... it is an Epic Marriage Story guided in faith by leaving a legacy. The book is linked to Amazon if you click it.   I am only four chapters in and somehow at the same time reading an article about  ... are you ready?   The Power of Narrative to Heal by James Sale.

I knew something was wrong tonight when I got in the shower and I was too tired to sing. We have been involved the past three or more months with a dear family member that took a fall and things have progressed with many changes in their life and in all of ours.  Painting has not come to a full stop, just slowed down, and I promise to share this next week what I have been working on.  Why Roses in a photo?  These are roses from. my youngest son two years ago for Mother's Day. Deep red roses filled our home with a sweet fragrance.  What does this have to do with singing in the shower?  I love to sing... when I am happy, when I am sad, when I am scared...but not so much when I am tired!   First choice are all the old hymns I grew up with

This is what creates the personality of my paintings. It weaves together the layers of paint applied with a palette knife, piling drag after drag criss crossing the painting creating planes of color and depth.    If you would love one of your own, lets do it.  Tell me the colors that ring your heart alive, and the subject...horses, flowers, what do you love the most?"   Contact me. How do you spend your days? Are you IN THE WILD?  It is time to have some fun and forget about all the news and noise around us. Makes me want to sing, to dance, to play music and sing some more!  Unfortunately, my house needs to be cleaned tomorrow. I can sing while I clean!  Been 10 days and we have been on the road back and forth to Dallas taking care of family things.  I am unpacking
