Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story." Patrick Rothfuss I was really looking for a quote on TIME OUT... for the painting... but I came across this one and in so many ways good and bad, I reacted to it.   I think he is right that we all have a story in our head on who we are.  Especially as a teenager and maybe as a young adult. I am thinking most of us would own up to it.  It starts at such a young age when you are playing with friends and as a guy, you chose

If I really wanted to pray I’ll tell you what I'd do. I'd go out into a great big field all alone or in the deep, deep woods and I'd look up into the sky—up—up—up—into that lovely blue sky that looks as if there was no end to its blueness. And then I'd just feel a prayer.” LM Montgomery . Ann of Green Gables It is late Sunday that I am blogging. I should have done it this morning but Terry and I were setting up a big paint in the studio.... three 30 x 60 x 1.5 inch canvas with the intent to carry the design across.  My easel will not hold 90 inches, but I may start looking

The one that holds my attention the most was "Take your hands off your life".  Whatever you are facing, juggling, or trying to resolve, stop and take your hands off and disengage your problem solving skills.  How can something so simple be so hard? " True faith is living without scheming. "      In the verse below that has those precious words we have heard thousands of times, BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD...    The Hebrew word translated "be still" actually means "take your hands off."

Between the pull of their power and beauty is a tenderness and a huge heart. When I think of wild horses running in the wind, I want to paint!  So it really touched my heart when one of my fellow artists commented to me on FB the following:  “ God bless you, Laurie, in this storm of life. Be as strong as your wild and wonderful horses. Thinking of you." Sylvia  God gifted these horses with stamina, strength, grace, speed, courage and most of all with heart. Pain

There are those on the floor making their lives among the heads of lions and hoops of fire, and those in the stands, complacent and wowed, their mouths stuffed with popcorn." Christopher Hawk The Unnatural Truth. With those 'winds of change' flying through our lives right now, sometimes you believe you might stop and question who you are and where you stand in a situation. I was calmed totally by scripture and knowing God stepped into my life to make an abrupt right turn for me.  We took the day to catch up on groceries in the bare refrigerator.

Color of Wind . Change is in the Air . Contemporary Horse Paintings . Laurie Pace Texas Artist

The wind in our lives can sometime usher in storms. Who controls the wind?  He does. So when we are sailing smoothly through our lives, we often forget the wind may change at any time; it could bring calm and peace, or the rush of storms.  We have very little 'control' in our lives when it comes to life.  We have choices and sometimes those are good and sometimes they are not.  The one major thing we can control is our reactions to the events in our lives

Sleeping Cowboy . Ernest Hemingway . Sunday, a day of rest . Western Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” Ernest Hemingway  I really enjoyed painting this scene. It was restful to me as the artist  and loved by our friends.  Sunday is the day of rest. I smiled when I found this in archives and thought it perfect for this day.  If you live in Texas you know that we still have 'rules' about not selling liquor before noon.  If you live in Texas and are in your late thirties and up, you might even remember Blue Laws.   Stores were simply NOT open on Sunday. You had to grocery shop and be prepared and there were not malls filled with open sto
