'The Wolf' Wolf Oil Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

'The Wolf' 18 x 24 inches Oil with Palette Knife  SOLD Contact me to make an offer to purchase: Laurie © Laurie Pace    Graphics One Design 2009 The Painting :  I began painting and the eyes of this wolf are thickly interesting. I was not sure if I like it but as a whole it is powerful with the thick pulls of buttery oils. Holbein Duo are the best for me. The Thought:   I was reading the send out from another columnist about the imperfections in each of us.  If you are like me, some folks literally drive you up the way with either their words or actions.  My first reaction is patience, but that does not always work.  I do try to contain my frustration. Years of teaching has enabled me to rely on the Suppress Tool.    Lets turn it around. How do other perceive you?  Are they holding their breath and counting to ten because of your actions or words?  We often forget to look at ourselves.   We all have bad days and good days.  We have to accept there is no perfectio

'On a Reach' 2nd in a Series Sailboat Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

'On a Reach' 18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Contact me to commission a painting: Laurie The Painting :  This is very similar to an early painting that is in a show in NY.  It is a commission piece that will live on the east coast.  I have three of these in the Summer Storm Series. The Thought :   I have written about imitation being flattering but not good,  as we should individually seek our inner creativity and soul.  What I didn't cover was the thought that often the devil is in the business of imitating God.  His goal of course is to  be like God through deception to us.  Disguises can hide some scary people from us and we often allow them into our lives deceived by their false fronts and taken into their deception.   Have you read the Chronicles of Narnia?  It was in one of the stories that a donkey was persuaded to wear a lion's skin to pretend to be someone he was not. The donkey was rather simpleminded and easily controlled into doing this.  The ape

'Standing in the Wind' Horse Equine Oil Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

'Standing in the Wind' 20 x 20 x 2 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Contact me to make an offer: Laurie © Laurie Pace   Graphics One Design 2009 The Painting : It was so smooth today painting with my oils. I decided pure oils and no impasto.  Good music and lots of vibrant color. The Thought :  We have two family members down right now.  One is in the hospital and the other wretched a back today.  Found out it was not a wretched back but it was major indigestion from high acidic foods and the answer was antibiotics for the bacterial infection of the stomach and a bland diet.  Believe me when I say this does not go over well with a teenager that lives on pizza, subway, jalapeno cheese and hot wings.   Tonight the teen consumed tilapia, brown rice, (Carrots uneaten), organic applesauce with a sprinkle of sugar on the top and a piece of sweet white bread.  There were some faces, but no gagging. Bland diet is for 6 weeks.  The pain was pretty incredible for our tee

'Rising Spirit' Horse Equine Art Painting by Laurie Pace

'Rising Spirit' 24 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Contact me for a commissioned horse painting. Laurie © Laurie Pace  Graphics One Design 2005 The Painting : Another one from the archives. It has not been a painting weekend and it is always a trip to go back through things painted four years ago. This was a very strong color palette and more impressionistic horses.  The Thought :  Did you ever sing that song when you were little that went, "Me and my shadow, my shadow and me. We're always together, we're good company."    Sometimes I like to think of God being that shadow. In truth He is leading me so the sun has to be behind me. The play on words deepens if you look. The SON is behind me, my shadow leads me... the shadow is God.  God has the lead and Jesus has your back.      Know this in your heart through the waking hours today. Seasons follow seasons and sunrise follows moon set, and there is truly no need to worry as the Father leads you.  He will

'Mountain Pony' Equine Horse Art Painting by Laurie Pace

'Mountain Pony' 30 x 30 inches Acrylic on Canvas SOLD Flashing back a few years to show what was compared to where I am in my work. I may entertain revisiting these palette colors.    Contact me for commission work: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2007     The Painting :  Rough scrapes of color prepare the base of this painting. Overlays of acrylic then create the vision of the horse. This one was painted in 2007.  I may try to do one this week that retains this sense but in my current style.  It is important that an artist explore and continue to learn and grow with in their journey.  It is also important to be original.  A sense of style is unique to each of us that paint, and often through either workshops or straight copy imitation, we see pieces of our own work showing up in the internet in the works of others.   The Thought:   I have to jump back to that old list today. I didn't look at it yesterday at all.  Not even sure where I am on the li

'Blue Baby' Horse Equine Art Oil Painting by Laurie Pace

'Blue Baby' 18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Contact me with an offer to purchase: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2009 The Painting : Playing off complimentary colors of blue and orange, the strength of this painting is remarkable in person. With my traditionally heavy oils without Impasto, the texture feel of the horse makes him come alive. The Thought :  Coming alive seems to blend right in with a good thought to build on for the day.     A few months ago I never struggled in the early hours at 4:30 am when we crawled out of bed. I have always been an early riser.  Lately after our last three week vacation I became accustomed to sleeping in until eight or  nine in the morning.  When I work up then I was so refreshed and alive.  At 4:30 am there is a struggle to come alive from the depths of sleep.     There are many folks that go through life living each day and not being ALIVE.  Some zombie movies call them the walking dead.   While we

'Grandmother's Pink Peonies' Flower Oil Painting by Laurie Pace

'Grandmother's Pink Peonies' 24 x 30 inches  Oil on Canvas SOLD Contact me to make an offer to purchase: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2009 The Painting : Thick Holbein Duo Oils in this bright smiling peony painting. It grew as it expanded on the canvas.  Several days of layer and reworking and this "happy" piece was done. The Thought : Morgan is in the process of moving out to his new place in Lewisville.  My list... well I did two things on it yesterday and did all the floors in the house and some wash.  Not sure what I will do today, but the list is still there should I get bored or lifeless and need direction.  I almost volunteered to drive one of the filled trucks to his new home, but I thought twice and stayed here instead to work.  I am behind about a month on bookwork. We are missing seeing the baby. Tink is going to be grown in a blink.  I think we might get her in about a week. Everyone is off on Monday for holi

'Hill Toppers' Horse Equine Oil Painting by Laurie Pace

'No. 312 Hill Toppers' 30 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas Contact The Rare Gallery in Jackson Hole to Purchase. Hollee Armstrong © Laurie Justus Pace    Graphics One Design 2009 The Painting :  I am currently painting new pieces for the Jackson Hole Gallery.  Hollee Armstrong, the owner, wanted another large pull of horses so I did this striking piece that is busy curing and waiting to be shipped.   I have a music piece I am working on as well and one other composition of my new water pulls.     The Thought :  Well yesterday I spoke of spiritual freedom.  I began my day with great expectations of nothing but tuned to staying tuned with Him.  I actually made it until late morning when of course things begin to overwhelm and I was sucked right back into the vat of mess between scheduling appts and securing addresses and counting out postcards.     Even last night with ALL good intentions of heading to the shower by nine didn't occur.  I returned a phone call to a fellow artis

'Triple Red' Summer Flowers Oil Painting by Laurie Pace

'Triple Red' 18 x 27 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Contact me to purchase: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace   Graphics One Design   2009 The Painting : It was a red day and I immersed myself in values of red highlighting with rich oranges and soft yellows.  A complimentary background of green pops these summer beauties right off the canvas. The Thought :   Did you ever wake up in the morning NOT wanting to do what was on the agenda for the day?   Sometimes we want to break free of the monotony or the constant demands on our schedules and just be free. What is being free?   Free to skip out on premade plans and obligations? Free to walk away from responsibility? Free to lay in bed and read  a book?  Each of us has our own vision of freedom.  Unfortunately in our world it is not easy to find freedom.  We have cornered ourselves and covered up our freedom with our lifestyles.  We did it to ourselves, no one else did. Today would be the day to embrace the idea of spi

'Visions 305' Horse Equine Oil Painting by Laurie Pace

'Visions 305' 20 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas Revisit Oil Painting  NOW SOLD Contact me for artwork: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace  Graphics One Design 2009 The Painting : I revisited a piece that seemed to be missing something and of course that is always color from my brain.  The original was all in acrylic and this revisited version has several layers of oil added on top of it. As soon as I touched it up, someone emailed that it was what they wanted and so as soon as it is dry, it heads to the coast to live. The Thought :  What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?  Do you yawn and stretch? Most of us do.  Stretching is a time to waken the relaxed body and begin slowly moving and stretching those muscles that have been relaxed all night. It allows them to bend and work with out pain as you push out from the covers to stand and begin your day. Each day is a challenge and perhaps it is wise to think of  a morning prayer as "stretching" and awak

'Colors in the Sun 2" Horse Equine Painting by Laurie Pace

'Colors in the Sun 2' 5 x 7 inches Oil on Board SOLD FROM BLOG! Thank you. Contact me to purchase $100: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace  Graphics One Design 2009 The Painting :  This is a second in the small series I am doing in preparation for the Daily Painters of Texas Art Show in Dallas.  This is a mini series to compliment a larger group. Oil on panel. The Thought: Such a shock yesterday to finish a blog that took an hour to write and it disappeared. I decided God must not have liked the message...ya think? Each new day brings a new opportunity for you to claim your own good. As you do this you must also affirm this to be true for those around you.  It is God's love and light that brings it to you.  The more you affirm this great goodness, the fuller your life will become.    It almost reminds me of developing new habits.  When you want to change things in your life you have the power to make the changes.  The first week or two of Doing It The New Way it feels so

'Observing' Horse Equine Art Oil Painting by Laurie Pace

'Observing' 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Contact me to purchase: Laurie The Painting :  This was a rough ride of not doing what I wanted the painting to do.  Two full scrapings and I finally let the spirit find it's way through and this is what resulted. This is a strong painting and the images are literally carved into the oils. The Thought :   There was a great thought here and it disappeared...how I do not know and time I am short of time today to rewrite an hour's worth of work!  I do not want to try and recreate it in short order, so I simply leave you with a prayer for grace today.  Love like you have never loved before.  Take in sights you have missed everyday and give thanks to Him who created it all.  Be blessed to be a blessing. Laurie " Everything is for your sake, so that grace ... may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. "--2 Corinthians 4:15
