Evening Waterlily 14 x 18 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Yesterday was a day of GRACE. Both my father in law and my dad were in two separate hospitals having heart related surgery. The Lord was with us as both of them came through with flying colors!!!! Relief and thanksgiving are still on our lips as we woke this morning. Terry and I are up early, TOO early since he will work until midnight tonight...but he is packing paintings that will travel to Wyoming for my show Friday. All systems go with the exception of another sinus headache and issues that may prohibit flying. I cannot even imagine trying to drive it in the time we have....so I am praying for healing right now. This painting was completed on Sunday. It is a relaxing simple breath of evening...cool colors and cooler moments! Smooth brushwork and delicate blendings add to the composition. As your life unfolds, remember to give thanks for everything in the journey. Grace, Laurie “He stood up to read, and the scroll
Mother's Summer Magnolias 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day It is just after four early Sunday morning. Terry is asleep, where I wish I was. Woke several hours ago with a screaming sinus headache, tried to go back to sleep but could not. Had to get in an upright position and take some tylenol. I was greeted in the studio by this painting that I finished yesterday before our trip into Dallas to meet Niki for dinner with the family. She is in visiting from Virginia, actually at a Dog Show in Longview via Dallas. I know it was a journey to drive in for dinner but a good time was had by all at ST Cafe. This painting is based on the humongous magnolia tree in my mom's front yard. They live on almost an acre in Dallas and this tree takes up one side of their front yard almost all by itself. It is huge. When you are under the canopy it is like midnight outside and that prompted the dark recesses on this painting of deep purples and violets mixed with the black. The star
LAZY DAYS OF SUMMER 16 x 16 inches Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD Not really sure about the expression on this cow...she is different! but I had fun painting her. Wide brush and different color palette for me too. Saturday. PAINT PAINT PAINT and pack pack pack. Never do seem to catch up. The first cut of the book for Wyoming arrived yesterday. I went ahead and ordered some for the show and had to pay extra to get them shipped on time. That wreck really delayed so much of what I needed to get done for this summer. Visit LULU to see the book. Click Here . It is only $18.99 and has both photography from Amanda Smith and artwork from me. Be energized by the power of the Lord...let His beauty shine through you to others. Shalom, Laurie “He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.”—Psalm 147:3
FURY 8 x 10 x 2 inches Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas A Painting a Day Egads...I am sunburned. I took the morning off and went swimming, rather floating, with my neighbor. I haven't take a break from the studio for something enjoyable like that in a LONG TIME. Well I am paying for it. I have the skin type that is winter white, but once I am in the sun I am a brown berry. Well, it has been years since I have been out floating around and I forgot to think about sunscreen because I figured I would only be there a short time. Well three hours later I raced home to handle stuff with the wreck and lawyers etc and didn't take the time to shower until after dinner. I am burned. White strap marks and all! It may be a rough weekend. This painting is another one of my smaller pieces, studies for larger paintings. I am taking watercolors on the trip. I have to really rethink my stuff because we may be flying. Still trying to figure that one out. Less stuff can come with me! I am he
FROM THE GARDEN 24 x 24 inches Oil no Gallery Wrap Canvas A Painting A Day SOLD Gorgeous brilliant roses are covering my rose bushes outside. Terry snapped a bundle off and put them in my favorite blue vase. (My dad had a bunch of blue vases in his history of sales eons ago with Phoenix Mutual...and I still have one!) THICK paint but this time I used a wide brush to paint. I was painting with my IPOD attached. The electricity was out again yesterday morning. STAY FLEXIBLE! Do not engage where stress is lurking to pull you in! Today is painting and packing pictures for Wyoming. Amanda, here they come! LOL Don't forget to visit www.earthworksartgallery.com to see my show in New York. (I know there are not a lot of new ones due to the car accident we were in, but I gathered my best.) Shalom, Laurie “Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”—Matthew 13:17
Single White Stallion 8 x 10 x 2 inches Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD Wednesday, Work Day. Did you ever notice that? Although I believe I work 24 - 7. This painting is a small one with the colors of my larger white stallions that I painted, I think they were called Spirit of Truth. I wanted to do a small one with the restful palette. I have been up battling the new printer. We were printing nicely last night and the power went off for four hours...everywhere in town. Even the grocery store had to close. All gas stations were closed...it literally shuts everything down. Terry and I covered ourselves with Chemicals to protect from Mosquitoes and then walked the dogs. When we returned we sat out on our back porch and Terry worked on sanding a model he is working on and I play my harp and then my guitar and sang. Needless to say, my fingertips are a tad sore this morning. I had not played my guitar much since March. We both showered early and climbed into a rathe
Early Fall 11 x 14 inches Oil on Panel A Painting a Day SOLD My thoughts are to fall already! BUT I cannot complain with the temps as they have been in our region, but for painting I am always thinking color. We were in and out of Dallas fast yesterday...had to tend to something at home that came up quickly. We have family with surgery next Tuesday and are in the prelims of getting things ready. We are suppose to leave for Wyoming a day after that so I pray all goes well. We will be in Colorado the next week and I will be painting from there! YEAH....and taking tons of pictures. I heard from Barbie, that was visiting from Salt Lake City. She had the horror tale of the trip home with a delay that kept her a full day from reaching home. I enjoyed our visit so much! Wish she lived closer, we would definitely be active together on a daily basis. TODAY is Conni Tögel's birthday, so I have to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wish we were together to share a glass of wine and some cake. Remember
Golden Boy 4 x 6 inches Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas A painting a Day We are off to Big D today for a big Day! More on that later. This painting is a small one I painted out of fun on a tiny canvas. Lots of colors and still thick paint, so it was fun to play in the colors. Today remember you are a child of God. We watched a movie last night with Cary Grant in it. I don't know the name of it but he played a character called Cass Brown, also known as Casanova Brown. Yeah, there were lots of women and eventually a baby that was his that he kidnapped because he didn't want the mother to give it up for adoption. He was paranoid about that tiny little girl, wore scrubs when feeding her and weighed her every time she ate. He was worried with the ounces she gained each day she would progressively grow to be 20 ft tall and 1000 pounds! BUT what caught my attention was the way he sat leaning over her bassinet watching her sleep and planning her future. Does not God do that with eac
RIVER WALK San Antonio 11 x 14 inches Oil on Panel A Painting a Day SOLD SUNDAY...the day of light...SUN DAY...the day of the Lord. This is a small piece I had to get out of my system. I don't know, maybe a detailed large one will follow. I have found myself doing trial paintings that are smaller before taking on the large scale ones....sometimes I think we try and do that in life. Be it through small steps forward to something to test the safety of the situation or just using our thoughts to think over scenarios. The truth is we must allow the Holy Spirit to work from with in us and TRUST it will work as God plans....not as we think it should. This applies all through our lives in everything. The thought today on dailyword.com is about forgiveness. I do have a comment on that. So often in my life I feel like I am the person that has been hurt and I have to Forgive the person that hurt me. You know that pity party feeling. That is WAY too easy! In many cases the truth is, I
PONY 2 30 x 30 inches Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD Saturday morning and too much to do. I stopped working around two yesterday and was helping with other work around the homestead. This is an expressionistic piece of passion and Santa Fe type colors.... and of course ENERGY! Allow the energy of the Lord to fill you this day. Go into the day with a positive smile and energies and spread the joy to each person you meet today. I am sending you a big smile across the miles from my studio.... Shalom, Laurie “The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.”—Psalm 19:1
Horsey Gossip 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD Good morning! This is a delightful COLORFUL group of hoses I had fun painting the past two days. I thought I would take it to Wyoming, but ya know the paint is sooo thick it will not be dry to make the trip! So many personalities in this painting...hard to take them all in. Don't forget to stop in at EARTH WORKS ART GALLERY . Yesterday my high school girlfriend Barbie drove out from Dallas. She is in visiting from Salt Lake City. We took art together in junior high school...that is where we met! I think it was first period art with Mr Craig at Lake Highlands Jr High School. Wonder if he is still alive? I learned so much from him. We even did architecture and designed our own homes in 8th grade! I even used that lesson when I taught 8th grade art. ANY way, after a yummy dinner at the FABULOUS Ponder Steak house, we came back to the house and she began a painting. She claims she has not painted in her adult life
After the Bath Towel Wrap 22 x 28 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD Don't forget to stop by www.earthworksartgallery.com and see some of the paintings hanging in my show! Thursday and I am running out of days. I spoke to Amanda late yesterday afternoon and we decided at the last minute to put together a book for the show in Wyoming. I GET TO PUT TOGETHER the book in between finishing up the pieces she wants me to send. Today I will work on some flowers to go up with the horses and cowboys and do some prints as well. Terry will have to shake a leg and get the mega printer fired up. I need to call ASEL ART early and have Jim send some stretcher bars to us so we can get some gliclee ready as well. This painting I finished up yesterday while the water filter man was chasing a leak under my sink where the filter system is located. He did not finish up until after six thirty last night. It was terribly interrupting to my work and finishing up things. I am painting in acryli
