These wolves are waking up to do their nightly prowl. Just leaving the edge of the forest, their different personalities emerge as I paint. Most of my wolf paintings are 24 x 36 unless they are commissions. Then it is the size the collector wants painted.  I have not ever painted on for a gallery this size. It is 24 x 48 inches. With each of these paintings come the general wolf pack and each wolf in the pack has his special identity. I love painting their faces and expressio

We have a new grand baby on the way and we are already in preparations. This is a new small painting 9 x 12 of my wolves done in the pull style of my horses. These contemporary wolf paintings are popular but I do not paint many of them. I try to keep them collectible!  So this is a small wolf painting just finished and very wet! This is the FIRST small wolf I have ever painted. I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Mak

The Usual Suspects, Contemporary Wolf Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 The Usual Suspects 32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available at Mirada Fine Art.  I really need to get a better image so I may have to post this one  again later this week with the finished touches of color. This is 90% done.  This is where it hangs around and I study and observe changes I want to make or colors I want to add. Heavy Holbein Oils and my favorite palette knife created this contemporary Wolf Painting, The Usual Suspects.  I know I am getting somewhere when Terry walks in and ponders the painting.  Even more important when Paddy walks in and his ears go back and he growls.  I think he has been watching too much TV. I keep telling him Walking is healthier than TV.   There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.  Psalm 19:3 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist   My Blog          My Website          Giclees on Canvas, Prints and Card

The Usual Suspects, Contemporary Wolf Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

I have wonderful lighting in the studio to paint by but it never results in good images with the camera. Most of my photography of work is done in natural day light to keep glare off the final image.  The wolves are progressing and I am delighted to paint one this large. It is the largest I have done to date. I am also excited it will be the first horizon wolf painting going to Mirada, where they have sold many of my single wolves over the past three years.  I will keep working on this today and have a pretty good shot of it tomorrow. I have been trying not to trip over Paddy Dog. He is my husband's Kerry Blue Terrier.  He is nine this month.  He is so lost without Annie Dog and he is not good under my feet while I am painting. I usually end up s

Dawn Rising Contemporary Wolf Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Dawn Rising SOLD Contemporary Wolf Painting 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas. Watching this painting develop was fascinating. I wanted to leave it at the blue stage, but had to finish the journey. There were many more in between shots I could have shared but I know you get bored with some of the progress shots.   What was amazing was the back light and colors in the early dawn as the light was breaking through the woods. I can only imagine this wolf in the newly fallen snow from the night to look up to see the dawn.  Her coat is dusted with the snow, her fur fluffed out with her winter coat...a play of contrast in colors and in composition in this unique contemporary wolf painting. It is no longer available. Thank you Steve at MIrada Fine Art that sold it directly from the studio to his client.  Email me if you would like a wolf painting of your own.    ' Again the one who looke

Winter White Wolf Contemporary Wildlife Palette Knife Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Winter White Wolf  24 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas.    Winter White Wolf is at  Mirada Fine Art  in Denver.  Steve Sonnen can tell you more about this incredible Wolf painting, thick with layers of color and paint.  Mirada has a broad collection of  Laurie Pace’s  signature equine paintings. I started watching some older shows on Netflix because there really is not much on all the cable we pay for that is not full of gun shooting, murder, vampires, and movies filled with panic and bad things happening.   I thought I was safe as I watched reruns of Ally McBeal and Brothers and Sisters. I really like Calista Flockhart and Rob Lowe. I have ordered Rob's latest book to enjoy on upcoming rainy days. I was doing well until I got to the end of Season Three on Brothers and Sisters and Rob's character, probably cast to be about 40, has a heart attack. Just watching his acting with the head

Wolves of Snake River in Progress By Texas Artist Laurie Pace    32 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas   I believe I am almost done with this contemporary wolf painting. It is drying and will be touched up and varnished before it is shipped.  I am not sure what I will paint today. I need to crank up and paint more small things for give aways and begin to explore other areas. Home is where your heart is.  I have moved more than most people in the military. Not quite sure why, but with my gaining years the insight into the whys are now spelled out clearly.  Ducks are at home where every they land... God provides. As children we associate 'safety' with home. When Lady L has a fall or injury and she is not home, her bottom lip trembles and she says, "Go home N O W." Her need to be safe is wrapped up in the physical
