The book is "Haunted Mesa" by Louis L'Amour.  I often used L'Amours paperback novels as the underlying coats before I begin to paint.  I wanted this piece to have a complete feeling from the beginning to end. The day after, I took the canvas up to my studio and began to work with my favorite colors.  Blues and purples and violets.... building into shadows and shapes.   The next few days you get to feel like a part of t

Have not painted since I left working on a 4 x 4 ft buffalo. This is a small collectible, just to get my blood pumping again.  Told you there were happenings here at the house. There are, and I promise to be forthcoming in the next few days.  Life changes are always challenging and this one will be for some time ahead. Caught something cold flu like that sent me to bed. Now the cough weakens me by late afternoon and keeps me awake some of the night. Needless to say one does not get much painting done like this. There are changing coming in our household again.  I am hoping to explain more later this week. Still hard to sit and the computer and type anything right now. A beautiful painting when I look at this image now, but one that was turned into more horses. This one I regret changing. This one I would have hung in my home.  No, I did not save it... I changed it. It sold as horses but only I know the true spirit of the painting. Only I know I was offered money for this as a flower painting.  Spring and summer brings flowers that open to the sunlight.  Rich soil and new leaves are nourished and refreshed by rain. Meet Sid... lots of color and layers of paint.    Sid is the wise guy. He is not distracted by all the commotion around him. These wolves are waking up to do their nightly prowl. Just leaving the edge of the forest, their different personalities emerge as I paint. Most of my wolf paintings are 24 x 36 unless they are commissions. Then it is the size the collector wants painted.  I have not ever painted on for a gallery this size. It is 24 x 48 inches. With each of these paintings come the general wolf pack and each wolf in the pack has his special identity. I love painting their faces and expressio

When I finish a painting I usually have that 'feeling' that I have nailed it.  If there is any doubt, I always take that step to make it into something else that does give me that sense of completion. When creative love surround me it is inviting like a warm bath.
