“And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles, no matter how long, but only by a spiritual journey, a journey of one inch, very arduous and humbling and joyful, by which we arrive at the ground at our own feet, and learn to be at home.”  Wendell Berry -The Unforeseen Wilderness: Kentucky's Red River Gorge

Destination... Ft Thomas, Kentucky.   I lived there for just less than a year and I knew the day I arrived, my soul felt like it came home.  We had moved from Houston to Ft Thomas during the hot summer. Arriving there the evening temps were low sixties and high fifties. The first thing we did was buy coats for the kids at night. The moving van was about a week behind us and we were living in a hotel on the river overlooking Cincinnati.

Ft Thomas is just a bit south east of Cincinnati. The town is celebrating 150 years this year. Here is link to read about the history.  FT THOMAS HISTORY

While this is not the home we lived in, it is similar.  Three stories up and a basement below. It was amazing living there. Coming from Texas we had not seen leaves turning colors or had winter arrive in October.  We had four huge bedrooms but only ONE bathroom.  These were all on the second floor. Upstairs third floor was just one huge room.  The first floor was a beautiful Parlor entry with stairs going up from that side by the front door and from the kitchen.  A large living room with a fireplace, a gorgeous dining room with old built in wood cabinets with glass doors and another fireplace.  Between it and the kitchen was a butler's pantry.  Later we converted part of it to a small half bath as there was NO bathroom on the first floor. If you went to the basement there was a shower and small bath there next to the the utility area.  Can you imagine all the up and down of the stairs from the second floor to the basement with laundry for five people?

Only lived there a short time but part of my heart is still there. Reminded me so much of St Louis where I was born.  I was transplanted to Dallas when I was four.

If you get the chance, look over the 150th anniversary of the town set for this summer. If you live close, the fireworks are always on the river throughout the year and they are stunning.

God has lead me on a journey in my life that has embraced so many places and people.  Feeling blessed.

"Please let us pass through your country. We will not go through any field or vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will travel along the King’s Highway and not turn to the right or to the left until we have passed through your territory.” Numbers 20:17

A Bit of Wonder Contemporary Horse Oil Daily Painting Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 30 x 2 inches of thick buttery oils! Contact me to purchase: Laurie "This is the day that the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24 It was a day of celebration yesterday as Lauren Gracen was born. Stacey began her labor around nine in the morning and was ready to push by 12:15, but they held her off while getting things set up. Took four good contractions with multiple pushes and the baby was there! All grandparents accounted for to count the toes and fingers! My admiration is for my daughter and her bravery and calmness despite the tension and newness of what she faced. I was honored to be there as the baby was delivered seeing my granddaughter push out into the light and take her first breathe... and then cry... and that she did. Terry was able to participate and he and Larry helped with pushing and getting Stacey upright for the process and then Terry was hon...

Arrival...Refrigerator?

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2024 Arrival Oil on Canvas  SOLD   by Laurie Pace   Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whtever you do, and he will establish your plans."   Worrisome times laced with prayers.   The world seems like a scary place lately. Praying for everyone affected by the last two hurricanes.  My adventures today were the result of a dead refrigerator. I have loved my Kitchen Aid refrigerator very much. The first one in the 'French Kitchen' look died at 13 months. Hubby wanted the same refrigerator. Well this one made it four years and a few months. I cannot believe appliances are not made to last longer...but wait, is that because they make more money if we have to replace it in 4-5 years?  You replace your mattress at least every 7 years... and your washer dryer, you might get 7 years out of those... The stoves seem to make it closer to 10 years. We are Lowe's customers, and Robert ...
