M. Montgomery  Anne of the Islands Summer has hit the hot days. My miniature roses are still blooming... and I was able to paint some today!  I finished up this one as well as three others.  Sometimes Paintings are in the HOLDING stage ... and it is always nice to return to find their true heart. Terry plants roses for me. This year I have four pots of miniatures and I almost feel they have a stronger scent than some of my bigger roses. Do you grow roses? Stop by my Facebook Page  and leave a comment about your blooms!  We were blessed with cooler temps today and RAIN!  Only two more weeks of August... and we head into the fall. I cannot wait!  My favorite time of ye

California Dreaming Red Poppies by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

California Dreaming... on a winters day.  With the temps in the 100's, I would be California Dreaming on a hot Texas summer day! These are hot red poppies done in a pop art type fashion with color steaming from the canvas!  I have been thinking about painting flowers this next week, and posting this older painting made me hungry to do it!  Poppies are one flower I have never planted.  Might be too hot in Texas.  We have hydrangeas, iris, zinnia, marigolds, roses, dahlias, and more!  Right now only the marigolds are hanging in the heat but fading rapidly.  On another side, I will share that I just finished a few weeks of study in Hebrews and have started in Romans.  Not using any study guide... just reading and cross referencing verses. Some nights it has brought me to tears, other nig

Like many Americans, we are not watching news anymore. I did manage to catch the weather for the next week and it is going to feel like 105-108 every day.  Is it hot where you are? The week ahead is going to start early on Monday at 7 am with an appt with a client on a website build.  I spent yesterday afternoon (after cleaning the house) cleaning the studio and rearranging canvas and finishing up the Bull and Bear painting I have been working on for the past three weeks.  Also finished up Lila which you saw yesterday after I finished it and blogged.  Next week, the brushes and the knives come out and paint will be involved.  I believe there will be horses, flowers,  maybe a bird or a wolf.   I have been thinking lightly about something. I am mulling it over on how it would look or work.  I h

This is the granddaughter of one of my dearest friends.  This little girl is the spitting image of her beautiful grandmother.  This was a crazy day photo with her wearing all her favorite colors and the net layered colorful skirt that grandmother brought to her!   Do you remember in your lifetime, being surprised by a gift from a family member that made you feel special?  I do... with several memories and my favorite was a soft yellow sweater at age 3 with tiny rosebuds near the neckline.  We used to be able to smile and greet people with a warm hello. Cannot do that these days. Covid Masks. How about if we used sign language... with our sparkling eyes and the sweet uplifted hand like a salute with a wave?    https://www.babysignlanguage.com Southern men might pull their hat slightl

THE MARSH, a story of Summer from Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Scott Fitzgerald.  The Great Gatsby It took a few extra weeks, like six of them, for summer to arrive here in the Dallas Ft Worth area of Texas. The temps the last few weeks were in the 100-105 area with heat index about 10 degrees higher. We had a cool front come through which gave us a few cooler days but we are back over 100 again now.  AUGUST is here.  The painting above was painted last summer when we saw 100 plus for months in a row,  I kept things simple with a simple palette. August is the month I turn my thoughts to September.  At the top of the thought list is Cooler Nigh

Lately… at least for the past 15 months, we have been leaning into God , reminding each other if we begin to slip or slide.  Abiding with him and waiting as he works. We have given up trying to control things in our lives. We simply cannot. As our 30th wedding anniversary passed by in late May, we were not able to do what we wanted with a small recommitment ceremony at the church where I grew up and where we were married. Other things were happening so the day passed. Again we were leaning into God. Sunday Morning, the UNEXPECTED happened.  As I tumbled out of bed, I showered and washed my hair. Coming out of the shower I discovered

My parents purchased an Alvarez Classical Guitar from a shop up in Sherman, Texas where my older brother was attending Austin College. I still have that guitar close by. It shared many a bus trip and plane trip over the years, as well as the rule with my children (teasingly) that if we had a fire, the oldest was to grab my guitar, the middle was to grab the family Bible and I would grab the youngest, the baby
