Just painting by Laurie Pace Art

     © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 In Progress 9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas. This is what is happening this morning. Terry is busy spraying pre-varnish on about 10 paintings and I am prepping canvas for work today. I have decided to see where this will go. From left over acrylics on the palette you can see in the bottom image... I did a soft background on the surface but no idea what I will paint today. I wanted to post this early and then maybe tomorrow I will have something finished for you.  Maybe it should be a heart? Happy Valentine's Day We exchanged our cards over breakfast and are enjoying the new mantle clock we decided on as a Valentine's Day gift for both of us. Never know what time it is sitting in the den, but now we do. It chimes too, but Terry decided to turn the chimes off until I was ready to test it at night. Smart man.  He believes in 'Happy wife, happy life.'  #happywif

Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 West by Northwest 24 x 36 inches Mixed Media on Canvas.  Available - Email me As I mentioned I am taking a more relaxed laid back approach to my blog again like I did the first five years of blogging. You get what I am doing exactly at that time and no pre-posting. SO my posts are fresh when I do them, and I am not promising daily, but if I work they will be here. This morning I tidied up the studio and painted edges on a number of paintings that have been finished over the past six weeks and are ready to ship to galleries and new owners. I am also preparing my special studio sale PDF so if you are interested in seeing what I have at special pricing, please email me . Each edge attempts to match up to the front of the painting.   I am lining them up for Terry to spray with a pre-varnish before they are shipped to the galleries.   #horsepaintings   #wolfpainting

Quiet Evening with You, Contemporary Figurative Art by Laurie Pace

  © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Quiet Evening with You 24 x 36  inches Acrylic  on Canvas. SOLD  This is an older painting from about 2006.  I wanted to blog so I pulled an archive this morning. With thoughts of Valentine's Day on Friday, but the responsibility of chasing a four year old for the past three days... I would LOVE a quiet evening with my husband where I am not so tired that I fall asleep during the six o'clock news. #chasingchildren Having Lady L here has really changed the 'pace' of the household.  This morning I was up at 5:45 to be ready when Larry dropped Lady L off to us for the new day.  Normally we are not up and moving before seven thirty, so it was a struggle getting those contacts in before my eyes were open. What I Have Learned:  They stay energetic all day.... and till the late hours of the night and again in the early hours of the next day EXCEPT Except whe

Well, so does watercolor... every media has its strengths and weaknesses and every artist has their strengths and weaknesses working with the different mediums. I was watching a short video on Facebook from another painting doing a floral piece. It was about two minutes long, and watching them work the paint I would have thought it was oil and it was not, it was acrylic.  So no matter which medium you choose to work in, continue to practice working in it daily if you can. You cannot get stronger in your art unless you make time for it. The second challenge comes with finding your voice and personality in your work where you are not imitating another artist's style or work.  We all own our own 'voice' in life and we need to own our own art. Drying will be at least three to four weeks.  Then it is off for Mirada Fine Art in Denver. This contemporary wolf painting is waiting for a new home. Okay, this cold has just about driven me crazy. Finally yesterday our temps were higher than 50 degrees.  I am tired of the same sweat shirts and long-johns each day trying to stay warm.  Terry has been a trouper keeping hot tea on the stove and hot meals coming from the kitchen while I am working. Friday he had prepared a 'snack' of black beans, guacamole  and chips... and then less than an hour later a baked potato with mushrooms and veggies on it. My tummy is getting overstuffed.  BUT this is NOT a complaint... it is thankfulness. The beans were served with chips and gauc... the mushrooms and carro

This is 90% done.  This is where it hangs around and I study and observe changes I want to make or colors I want to add. Heavy Holbein Oils and my favorite palette knife created this contemporary Wolf Painting, The Usual Suspects.  I know I am getting somewhere when Terry walks in and ponders the painting.  Even more important when Paddy walks in and his ears go back and he growls.  I think he has been watching too much TV. I keep telling him Walking is healthier than TV.   There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.  Psalm 19:3 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist   My Blog          My Website          Giclees on Canvas, Prints and Card

I have wonderful lighting in the studio to paint by but it never results in good images with the camera. Most of my photography of work is done in natural day light to keep glare off the final image.  The wolves are progressing and I am delighted to paint one this large. It is the largest I have done to date. I am also excited it will be the first horizon wolf painting going to Mirada, where they have sold many of my single wolves over the past three years.  I will keep working on this today and have a pretty good shot of it tomorrow. I have been trying not to trip over Paddy Dog. He is my husband's Kerry Blue Terrier.  He is nine this month.  He is so lost without Annie Dog and he is not good under my feet while I am painting. I usually end up s

Wolves on the Prowl Beginning Sketches, wolf painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

  © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Wolves on the Prowl  32x 48 inches Oil on Canvas.  Wolves on the prowl... for a new painting heading to Mirada Fine Art. Normally on these paintings I pull the oil paints and then find the wolves. With the size of this painting I wanted to make sure I had the balance to the size and composition. It is sometimes hard when you are so close to the painting you cannot step back and keep a distance from it to really see it.  This way I will keep my balance as I begin to pull the paint.  This week has been incredibly cold.  Terry set up an extra space heater in my studio...and I like it over 65 degrees... do you have trouble working when you are cold?   I like my music going, the temp up to 68 and of course lots of light.  I have three easels set up in the studio area and one large work table. Let me know if you want to see more images of where I work and I will be happy to share them.

Rustic Herd of Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

  © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Rustic Herd 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available at Robert Kelly Home Gallery   I could not get a well lit image as darkness hit last night as I finished. I adjusted the lighting so here it is. This is one of my painted pony horizon herds heading to Park City Utah.  They ask for earth tones and they got earth tones. A little bit of jewel tones accent here and there on this contemporary Horse Painting.   #horsepaintings Stacey and I downloaded the HGTV app for decorating and have had a blast finding our our personal styles along with over 200 home images to prompt creative decorating ideas. It is called FOLIO by HGTV.  We both recommend it.   I will try and keep some images coming on the blog as I strike out and do something different and more daring in my home decorating.  "And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth." Wolves I do not paint often but this week I will be doing one more of my horizon wolves for Mirada as well.  I am allowing this contemporary wolf painting to HANG around as I make changes and update it here and there.  He has so many layers I lost count. The paint will literally take weeks to cure to ship to Steve at Mirada Fine Art, but that is where it is committed to as of this day. I am posting it early but it will not have too many more additions to it. So much of my art is missed in these two dimensional images as the knifed paint has ridges and thickness like buttery icing on the canvas. It is something to experience in person. "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
