SOLD  I have this urge to paint flowers again... or more.  There is something that is burning to be painted with the color Raspberry.... Time to sketch with a journey ahead. Seven in the Sun, Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Seven in the Sun 32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  I promised seven horses and seven it is. I am tweaking and it is hanging so we have to wait to see for last changes. I have not taken a 'good' image of it yet, this is unlit off the easel. The sun is in the back left quadrant... the blue skies ahead are in the right quadrant.  The horizon line is not the same across the painting.. one side is lower than the other and if you saw my beginnings you know why. The beginnings were in the from of a cross, but not smoothly established but jagged and displaced. So much symbolism while painting. I worked with the numbers seven and eight as a foundation as I laid in colors and piers through out the painting. The top is divided into three sections, the white the sun and the sky.... the fourth portion is made up of the seven horses.   It is officially hanging for the next 48 for final touche

Horse Painting in Progress by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Horse Paintings... Not there yet.  32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  Well maybe by tomorrow a closer to finished painting!  This is exceptionally thick paint and it does have impasto mixed in since we have 'drying time' to consider.  Want to ship it early next week, or Terry and I will be doing a road trip to north of Tulsa Oklahoma. I did some research. Mark's background has Cherokee Indian, and he is from the Wolf Clan.  (I promised wolves later) But, as I researched the Cherokee numbers... looking for a number that was strong for them, it was the number seven. They had seven tribes within their whole. So look for seven horses tomorrow. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. Steven Sonnen is shipping Crowning the Hill from Mirada Fine Art to them....and I started this new one as a opening warming gift.  Mark says opening is in two weeks... hoping to get this done and dry and yes, Terry and I would love to drive up for the opening...depends on the whacky weather here.  See the almost finish painting tomorrow.   © G.O.D. There is so much excitement when you 'begin' something new.  The anticipation of what you hope will be the journey does not always pan out... sometimes your expectations are not realized.  That is when we have to step back and realize God has His

FORM is the third Element of Art by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Third Art Lesson The Seven Elements of ART Line, Shape, FORM Form is usually the element my younger students love. Basically form is dimensional.  Form is a three-dimensional geometrical figure.  Where you normally have a circle, in form it is a sphere.  Where you have a square, in form you have a cube.   My images shared will be from a simple project.  If you want to get fancy, do some carving, paper mache or anything that dimensionally builds shape. You can actually still do a two dimensional painting and use a palette knife and build up layers, and presto... you have form.  You can also do mixed media and have things pasted and gessoed onto the surface and that counts as form as well.  Working with mixed media is always fun. Collaging and using different papers and objects to create art is very exciting.  Try and do some different types of art that allow you to use FORM. I went into the studio to figure out something to share for an exercise besides car

Contemporary Palette Knife Sailboat Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Golden Sunset Sail 32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  It is at the hanging stage... hanging in the studio for me to watch. It is NOT done...but in hold while these layers dry for me to add final layering with the knife.  I am loving the energy and really give total thanks to God on this one... it has what I prayed it would have.  So in a few days or a week, I will post a final of this painting. Thanks for your patience. These large paintings are not overnight creations.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.      © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Golden Sunset Sail 32 x 48 Inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  You really can tell the difference between the sky and the water by this time. The boats remain still sketched in and the water is taking on movement with the wind.  Colors are strong against the golden sunset and tomorrow I will work on the boats.  The friends I am painting for did NOT want to see the progress shots.  They trust my work and know I am led by His Spirit as I work and I have to trust simply that if I give myself and this painting to Him that it will indeed be of great spirit as I finish it. Probably two days left to paint and then it will hang around the studio while I watch it.    Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.  Micah 7:8 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist Pace Studio  Graphics One Design My Blog

Contemporary Sunset Sailboat Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Gift Painting for  Friend that loves Sailboats 32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  The Sky came alive today in the painting... I worked from the horizon line up to the top and then from the horizon line down through the water. More layers will appear as I progress using my knife, catching the waves, the shadows, the wind and the energy of the lake.  “Arise, shine, for your light has come,     and the glory of the Lord rises upon you."      © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Gift Painting for  Friend that loves Sailboats 32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  They both had seen the sunset almost two weeks ago when the first 'cold front' came through Dallas.  It was truly a golden sunset.  Their heart was set on this sailboat painting being a GOLDEN SUNSET.   We combed through many images to make sure I had in my mind what they had in their mind, and I set my palette to include Indian Yellow and Quinacridone Gold as the basis of the Golden Sunset. These are images of the first pulls of paint of Indian Gold with a minimal amount of white to carry it. I want the Indian Gold to react with other colors as they sweep over it.  "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their

SOLD  SO you will watch this one from beginning sketches through the paint this week. I have a busy month in the studio but it is with three or four large paintings, so you will see the progress peppered in with anything small I do along the way. I am reserving MONDAYS each week as the 'art lesson day' to help beginners with art. Many artists out there are doing paint alongs for other artists, but some beginners are truly not really ready for paint alongs. You have to have a knowledgable foundation in art to learn the basics, train your eye and extend your knowledge so you create things that are apart of who you are and not  imitate the art of others.    This will be a palette knife painting and this one starts with a sketch on the canvas.   I use charcoal directly on the canvas and this time, no I d

White Knight Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 White Knight 8 x 10 Oil on Canvas. SOLD  Just a filler horse painting to finish out September. This was painted in 2011 I believe.  I love the way bits and piece of the color palette came together to create the energy of the horse.
