THE DANCE Horse 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Good morning from the studio. I went to bed with hot Peppermint tea and a sore throat...seem to have some type of infection this morning so only running on half my body! I am painting though and finished up this unique quarter horse. It is my interpretation of the dance you see as a horse moves enjoying the air and the freedom surrounding him. When was the last time you saw a HUMAN break out in dance walking down the street? Life might be more interesting if we expressed joy so openly. Grace, Laurie “O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”—Psalm 104:24
POWER OF WHITE HORSES By Laurie Justus Pace Oil on Canvas 30 X 30 inches A Painting a Day SOLD It is already seven. I have not adjusted to DLS well...sleeping less...and I think that means more weight gain. I am on my way to the MAC WORLD to have some files transfered between the PC and the new Mac. I have pretty well figured out things, but we signed up for a year of lessons as we need them...which is good for Terry and I both. This machine flies....THEN home to clean house and enjoy our 80 degrees outside. My we must be in for a hot summer....need to book plans out of state for sure. The painting posted doesn't photograph with the power it has in person, but the blending of the colors with the palette knife brought out a dimension depth in the background. It will be available on Ebay in the next few days. Email me if you are interested in this piece. Grace, Laurie “We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing abu
COLOR OF KOI FIVE 2007 30 X 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day SOLD on BLOG! KOI is always fun to paint. I normally do not use this palette of contrasting blues and oranges. Usually when I paint my koi, the oranges are more in the quinacridone family, not the orange orange family. I did retain the blues and sea greens though for contrast and the added black to pop the fish out. Fish always remind me of so many bible stories and connections to life...I am Water as far as my element and leaning toward some changes in art that might reflect such. From water I draw strength...and we live in the driest area with out water...perhaps that is why I need to rework the acre around my home to become a sanctuary for my life...I am ready. The next door neighbor rented a huge tractor, digger, grader...I do not know what to call it...but has been digging up the ugly clay around the house and putting in good soil. This is good in theory, but I would tend to consult an engineer first, wonder
ROOSTER ONE 2007 16 X 20 inch Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day SOLD FIRST, let me say I AM NOT A ROOSTER person! I love Natalie though and she wants a giant rooster for her home in LA. She also wants a palette knife rooster. Well, as a painter of horses this is a stretch...a stretch that requires some preliminary painting to get into the rhythm of painting roosters, especially a GIANT one on 3 by 4 foot canvas. SO be prepared for a rooster a week! It was fun and I will be playing around with different colors. This one is on auction on eBay...if I can figure out my new MAC will try and do a link to the auction. CLICK HERE> Today is commission painting day and I will be in the studio working on Roses and Hands...two different pieces. Tomorrow hopefully on horses for a collector in NY. I will delay MR ROOSTER for a week or so. I cleaned up the studio last night...still cramped with the new MAC sitting on top of my computer desk. It would not fit in the hole. I will have to h
Texas Oak One 2007 Fauvism Landscape 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD Good Friday morning. I am still unraveling things with the new mac. My camera does not work, I still do not have SKPE loaded on, but I am getting there. Phones are still messed up here which you would think would not help things, but actually I get more done.... Art classes were yesterday and we painted shoes. What fun we all had. Then in the painting class we are working on developing values in our paintings from the first stroke, to be aware of darks and lights and the in between. We became tongue twisted on the DARKEST DARK, the MIDDLE DARK and the LIGHT DARK in contrast to the LIGHTEST LIGHT, the MIDDLE LIGHT and the DARKEST LIGHT. It pushes each of them to a point where they have not traveled on canvas...using their left side of the brain at the same time they use the right side. The painting above I debated on...but it was fun, whimsical and full of life. A touch of fauvism with an expl
Racing Off Wild Horse 24 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Hints of the west and sunset in this unusual composition! Energy and thick paint abound as I begin to get back into painting again. House is almost clean, just in time to teach today. I still have to get my lesson finished up, finish a painting and set up for classes...and I am still struggling to become MAC proficient! I am almost there. We walked almost three miles early evening last night...that felt soo good. Warm temps, mild skies and neighbors saying hello as we walked. Sometime is amiss with our phones, not sure if it is something I did with this computer or what! But sometimes quiet is good! I will definitely get more work done today. grace to all, Laurie "But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever." Psalm 52:8
Front On Horses 24 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Delightful bright colors on this sunny Texas day. I finished this beauty this morning. Caramels and Roses with soft creams and marigolds complete this painting. Thick paint and a palette knife create the ridges and dimension. Well, I am slowly catching up at home. Doing wash and floors and cleaning out left overs out of the refrig. Not sure what we will eat. Terry is due home in the next few minutes. I am on a new computer, a Mac and struggling to regain balance without half my programs on here yet. I will be using the PC for uploading to my website for ebay etc...but otherwise I will be weaning off AOL except for email. TOO Much paper work switching everything. Stacey and Larry are taking off the rest of this week and will return to work next week. They are up at the funeral home today picking up the urn and Grant's ashes. I know it will be another emotional day for them. Yesterday we all met in Dallas and took
WILD RUN Horses Oil on Canvas 12 X 24 inches A Painting a Day SOLD The sun is shining here in Justin Texas, the temperatures outside are bordering 70 degrees...Stacey and Larry are watching as two trees are planted in their backyard....a gift from Terry and I for their home. The Minister did a blessing of their home on Saturday following the services for Grant...new life begins at their home now. My day starts normal...Niki is here until tomorrow and she was in for the funeral. A total help to all of us and I am forever thankful for her friendship and her ability to jump in and handle things. Today is shipping day, Terry is out making boxes, many are for the show that opens in Ohio this next weekend. I was suppose to travel to be there, but doubt I will make the trip right now. It is just a bit soon and I want to be here for the kids if they need us. Terry was listening to classical music, a piece which was pierced with exploding energy from different areas of the orchestra...and he
March Sunflowers Oil on Canvas 24 X 24 inches A Painting A Day SOLD The Household is sleeping and I may crawl back to bed...I am still pretty tired. It was a tremendously long day yesterday with folks in and out and Grant's services. There were folks unable to be seated in the chapel that held 250 people...it was a grand celebration of his life. Darci from DOUBLE HP Horse rescue emailed last night ..."Grant" means "gift"...what a treasured thought that was for both Terry and I to go to bed with! His favorite thing to do was to call 911. Sometimes you would not even know he did it till the police arrived at the door. Talk about panic in your heart. They would come in and have to talk to Grant to see what was wrong and then of course question the poor unsuspecting soul who had not been diligent in watching that Grant was not left alone with the phone. His favorite song this past Christmas was Feliz Navidad and he really rocked to the beat. His favorite stuffe
Entering The Wild ~Horse~ 16 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD ON DAILY BLOG Today we will say goodbye to the earthly remains of our grandson. Perhaps a heavy day and I know a difficult one for both Stacey and Larry. Larry has found comfort in the Lord this week asking for signs that Grant didn't suffer and has been given two...at separate times...Grant flies free and his spirit is glowing. TODAY we celebrate Grant's life and the sun is shining and the day is blessed. Entering the Wild is a composition of a horse thrusting forward, brilliant with color and energy! Grace to all! Laurie "There are doubtless many different kinds of sounds in the world, and nothing is without sound." 1 Corinthians 14:10.
Finally Free Horse 24 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD It is early and I am heading to the easel to finish up a painting before facing the day and the arrival of out of town travelers. The hard thing yesterday was when Larry and Stacey stopped by to pick up flowers and a book I was lending them. NEVER have I seen my daughter so destroyed and my son in law so broken. They had just finished gathering up pictures and buying a navy coat and slacks for Grant to wear for the service. OH dang this is hard. My daughter is traveling a road I have not been down and I am not of much help here...this is truly not the right order of life to bury your children. What I do know is my daughter will gain strength from this and will grow. It softens her in some areas and hopefully opens her heart to the Lord's mercy in other areas. Grant is finally free and in the light of the Lord. I HAVE TO FOCUS on that or the tears begin again with the thought of all the emptiness. I am missin
Silver Moonlight Wild Horses at Night 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD He dances in the moonlight now, my grandson Grant. He is a twinkle in the night sky and is in the heavens during the day as well...I can look up and see him day or night. I could not even begin to tell you how many times I sang the song to my grandsons about MR MOON. Mr Moon Mr Moon you're up too soon, the sun is still in the sky. Go back to bed and cover up your head and wait till the day goes by..... Not a day will go by with a prayer of thanks for his life and the gifts he left us. Stacey and Larry were given the sweetest mold of his little hand...and I almost cried out when I saw it. The last time I was in the room with him I had my fingers laced with his and then placed my fingers beneath his just to feel the weight and warm of his little hand one more time. So to see the beautiful mold Cooks Children gave them touched through my heart into my soul. My last touch, my last memory....hi
