FIRST EDITION Horse 24 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Just a quick note...it is late on Monday...we have been packing and shipping...and eating and enjoying life... Laurie "Then they were glad because they had quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven." Psalm 107:30
Into the Wild horse 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day just a quick note...heading for bed already...was with out electricity from four this morning until after seven. I played my harp by firelight and candlelight...it was pretty cool....I did finish up this painting after the sun rose and I pulled my easel in by the fire...it was also COLD. I didn't even crank up the computer until after lunch...so it has been a down day for art production! My grandson was here for lunch and a mean game of Chinese Checkers...My favorite! More tomorrow...the above painting is six layers of oils... overlaid . It is a beauty in person! Have a great week. More tomorrow. Good night. Laurie "From ages past no one has heart, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you who works for those who wait for him." Isaiah 64:4
DREAMS Child Roses 24 X 24 Inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day This painting was a three day piece and I still need to adjust shadows in the fabric of the dress. It is a donated painting to the Gillian Jones Gallery for the opening March 9-10 in Granville, Ohio. Gillian has some absolutely gorgeous work she has accumulated for this show. There is a private by invitation only show on the 9th and the public show on the 10th. Working directly with her on this project, the auction of this painting will be to raise funds for the Team Regina Fund in Granville. You can read more about this project at www.teamregina.com . If you are interested in bidding on this piece or owning it outright immediately with a generous donation to the fund, you may contact Gillian at the Gallery . The story and spirit behind the painting is based on the joy of all children dreaming about what they will be when they grow up and what their lives will be like. We all think of homes, families, jobs and grow
Longhorn One 2007 Texas Longhorn Steer 22 X 28 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Good morning! It is 4:33 a.m. Was sorta glad to wake up this morning from a mini nightmare about moving in to this older home that needed repairs and found out Three families were going to live there. EEEK. Don't even want to know what that interprets to! I was reading my book last night as Terry flipped on early news at nine. I was totally taken in surprise by the death of Anna Nicole Smith. She is NOT a personality I ever kept up with, but with all the hubbub of the birth of her daughter, death of her son and now her own death. Terry and were shaken a bit in disbelief and then realized we needed to hold each other a little bit tighter and know all of our days are numbered by the Lord and each day we are here on earth in this journey and we need to make this day count...not yesterday or tomorrow but TODAY. The longhorn above was finished up yesterday. He has a brother that is larger going to t
LONGHORN PRIDE 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day The Longhorns are done...I had started them last week and finished them up yesterday along with some Wolves in the snow...two more Horizon Animal Palette Knife Painting. This is a detail close up of how the knife works with the paint. I started doing these animal horizon knife paintings last summer. ( Wolves, horses, buffalo, longhorns, horses, elk etc) They are quite unique and my work is well recognized. It is the basic principle of a horizon and animals running toward you with stragglers behind. It was brought to my attention by one of my buyers that another artist is doing something similar. I check on it, but it is not the same, it is with a free brush. It is always quite a compliment to have work emulated by another artist. I know Diane Whitehead is challenged with this often and that speaks volumes about her free style of paint and how talented she is. Another artist I see copied often too is Marian Rose out o
GIRL and GOATS 18 x 27 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Last year I had a small series of Girl and Goat which was hugely received and the four I painted in the series did well in sales. I was sketching in bed the other night and decided to do one more with several goats and not just one. In the original series this same little girl is dressed as she is here and she has one black goat...her best friend. But I had the vision of her walking through the field with MANY goats...resulting in this precious piece. It is painted with a wide brush and thick Holbein Duo Oils. Today it is early. Seems like I just did yesterday's blog and I did just do it at seven last night and it is almost five right now in the morning. Kay T make sure if you are reading this you read last night's for the email exchange question. Today I will be working on several new compositions of horses and cows. So I am off to the canvas. I wanted to play the harp this morning, but decided my eyes were not
Cowboy and Horse 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day This painting does not have a name yet and is not quite done but I am preparing it for the opening of the FOUR BRANCH RANCH which I have been mentioning on prior days! I painted several small 6 x 6 inch ones this morning for it as well. This is thick paint with impasto added and wide brushes. Kay T... not sure I have your email address because my computer crashed too and I am on hubbies HP. You can email me at Pace52@aol.com though. I pick up mail there daily! Then I will have yours back too! It is late...I am painting canvas edges tonight so I can hit it running in the morning. On the agenda for the week are some reiners and cowboys/girls, some more wild horses and Exploring a new breed.... Akhal Tekes. GORGEOUS horses. I am going to do a few practice paintings which I have already promised to the buyer that recommended I look at these horses...so we will see! Tomorrow Trina will be here to paint, and I have a new pi
Color Five Horse Two HORSES 24 X 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Good Monday Morning! I spent the last two days busting my poor arm on this computer trying to fix the files for the book I sent out the link to! My FIRST edition of horses. Click on the word BOOK to link to it! I struggled after building it in PUBLISHER and then realizing I could not convert it, rebuilding it in Adobe Illustrator and then trying to find a program to combine the PDFs I built in Adobe. I did find a super program SONIC that did everything flawlessly taking it straight from Publisher, but it did not like my big files of pictures, especially 64 of them! But it would work for most people and the support there was over the top in professionalism and honesty. Canadian Company too...wonderful folks! BUT the book is available now and I am praying it worked correctly. You might wait three weeks and let me get my first copy!...then order. I jumped the gun, but I was so excited! This painting, Colo
BUNNIES UNDER THE DECK 15 X 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day GOOD EARLY SUNDAY MORNING! THIS IS THE DAY THAT THE LORD HATH MADE, LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT! Ya know when the kids were growing up, Morgan, the youngest ~ also the other artist~ use sing THIS IS THE DAY...THIS IS THE DAY.... twenty four seven. I can still conjure up images of him at age two belting this song out as he woke for the day, during breakfast, after breakfast out in the backyard, at lunch...we heard it all day! I offer up my memory and my smiles! Bunnies under the deck...this is where I miss having young children around. There is something living under our deck in all this freezing cold weather. Of course the vet thinks it might be a possum...but we have seen bunnies flitting from under the deck across the back yard (an acre) scurrying under the shed where the lawn equipment is kept. The dogs are tearing after them on fire. I laughed watching those poor bunnies run run run from these goofy Kerri
Kelly's Light Horses 30 X 40 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Well, this one was not painted in a day, or even two days...took a bit longer. It was a quieter painting, painted with a wide brush and not much action. I hung it up in the dining room to study it for a few days...something was not right... it was LOVELY but nothing more. I sent it out to Charlene and Kelly to look at and give me honest feedback...Charlene pointed out some technical issues but Kelly sent a hot email back...basically saying, This is not YOU! Kelly reminded me exactly of what I preach about to my students about all the time. THE PAINTING WILL NOT WORK IF YOU GET IN THE WAY trying to control it. I was doing that. I technically had painted a lovely painting but it did NOT soar with life. Trusting in Kelly, I picked up my palette and squirted about 12 different colors on in large clumps. I added some impasto...(How I would live with out that I am not sure) and took my knife in hand. This is the r
Andalucian Stallion HORSE 24 X 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day OH MY>... we have at least 3 inches or more of snow outside....we were up at four to let the dogs out as I made Terry's breakfast and there is snow thickly covering everything. The hood of his truck has more like six inches.... it is amazing since we rarely get snow. I will try to get out for pictures later!!! Annie the dog is doing better...we couldn't feed her until this morning...and I just fed her. I pray that her tummy and intestines are better because I do not want to spend my day cleaning up after her! She was so sad yesterday wanting to eat and I felt like a bad mother eating in front of her! This painting was completed yesterday. it is pretty wet. It was interesting to paint as it developed I truly was working on balance color etc. I always paint away and as I finish things up begin moving paint on the composition to different areas for contrast. I use the palette knife and pick up color from
IN TUNE Guitar 30 X 30 Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Commission Piece This is a unique commission piece for a couple in NYC. I was THRILLED to be honored to paint this for their home. Smooth thick paint and brilliant colors create this musical composition. I hope they enjoy it...I think I told you before when I paint, I often meditate and pray about the home where the painting is going to. Often I have no clue when painting for eBay, but I do when painting commission pieces. I have learned over the years of painting, NOT to get in the way of the spirit that must travel onto the canvas. Often The artist gets in the way, again reminding me of Iris' words, EGO edging God out. Same on the canvas... when I try and control...the painting never works as well. The guitar was a delight...itunes playing on my computer with a mixture of music and I literally danced around the canvas as I worked. Today is cold. Yesterday was Liberty's first day to help with the computer and I can h
