Chicago Painted by a Texan aka Moon over Chicago 3 ft by 4 ft HUGE A Painting a Day in celebration of Tom's 50th Birthday! !!!!Happy Birthday!!!! W ell for the past three years I have promised Tom a painting for his den. I wasn't very swift with carry through on this one, but since he is celebrating the big 50 this weekend, and all his brothers and sisters are in from CHICAGO to Dallas.... I did the deed this week! I was figuring a mere nicely sized 24 x 36 inch painting, but Tom wanted 3 ft by 4 ft. This is on the tail end of another commission piece that went to Arizona that is 3 ft by 4 ft....no wonder my back and shoulders hurt. I had to crank the easel down to accomodate these huge canvas. This painting was fun as I studied the photos I had of the Chicago skyline. The stretched gallery canvas is a tougher surface than the night landscapes I have been doing on Masonite, but I hung in there and pushed the paint to the limit trying to keep my colors from being muddy...
Forest 22 x 28 inches A Painting a Day Another day another painting! This gorgeous horse is done with my newest style of scraping layers of paint and then finding the horse with in the patterns. I entitled it FOREST because of the greens in the background. Thick paint and a palette knife created this beauty. Have a happy day today! Grace, Laurie " Be of the same mind toward one another." Romans 12:16
Gathering Dewberries 30 x 30 inches A Painting a Day Good morning from Justin Texas. Cooler air is moving in this morning. I have the windows open in my studio. Today I teach in the afternoon and early evening, so I will be painting all morning. The posted painting is a full of enticing colors and mystery as a young girl gather wild dewberries in her bowl. Thoughts and memories of my own daughter gathering dewberries for me to make a dewberry cobbler. YUM. It is too late in the year to actually find dewberries, but the memory created the painting. Grace to you on this Thursday! Laurie " Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:31-32.
HERDING 30 x 30 inches A Painting a Day " Today I begin a commission piece for a woman in Arizona. It is a take off on one of my prior pop art pieces, Quiet Night With You. The woman had emailed how much this looked like her daughter, and when she mailed me pictures I was astonished. So we are increasing the size to a 3 ft by 4 ft piece and I adjusted the lips on my sketches and the bridge of the nose by the eyes....and I am going to the canvas today.... hopefully will post it tomorrow. It is in acrylic, not oil. The painting above I worked on and off for the past three weeks. Reminded by the changing leaves and the cooler temps, I worked in the easy feeling of fall and the beauty of the season. Wide brushes created most of the painting and the palette lends itself to the vivid contrasts of the season. Enjoy your day! Grace, Laurie " Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving." Colossians 4:2
Ready for Battle 24 X 36 inches A Painting a Day Elegance of color, full of contrasting values and rich hues of the forest. This buck bows his head in preparation for battle! A new view for me at the easel, but so definitely engraved in the depth of this painting. Layers of scraped paint and pulls of color create a new palette directly on the canvas. From the shadows and edges appears this beautiful animal of the forest. Hope your day is filled with God's best! Grace, Laurie " May He grant you according to your heart's desire and fulfill all your purpose." Psalm 20:4
Daylight 24 X 36 inches A Painting a Day This one is already sold! This weekend I knew I needed to paint another "watery horse" painting. I felt sleepy when I started it and the colors began calmly and with cool colors. As the painting progressed you can see how the oranges and reds began to creep in. ZOW!!! Hope everyone had a terrific weekend. We had the PACE FAMILY reunion at White Rock Lake in Dallas. Oh my, did we eat and visit and eat some more. There was a wonderful stand up comedy act too! So many new little babies and many newly weds and engaged folks. ...but we all ate. God is good! All the time, God is good. " In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will." Ephesians 1:11
Lamp Light 9 x 12 inches Oil on Board A Painting a Day A busy Friday looms! I am out of the studio all day...gotta get the garage cleaned out and run into town on errands...tomorrow is the HUGE family reunion so I will be cooking and baking into the early hours of the morning tomorrow...then sleep and then eat! The painting above I just finished and it is another one of my favorites in my small series on board. The way the Holbein Duo Oil moves on the board is like magic...it creates a world of light and shadow that I cannot do on regular canvas. Grace to you all...have a safe weekend. Laurie "Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; on you I wait all the day." Psalm 25:4-5
WOLF PACK 24 x 36 x 2 inches A Painting A Day continues! Today I hope to finish up a painting I started yesterday. I finished the wolves up. They were started last Saturday. Pretty mysterious and cool actually. THICK paint and glistening colors weaving in and out of the composition. My day will be topped off with teaching this afternoon. The students are painting their clay projects they started last week. Oh what a fun mess!!! Grace to each of you, Laurie "Be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble." 2 Peter 1:10
Daffodils Two 18 X 27 inches A Painting a Day Well, I certainly got my exercise yesterday~ we walked the dogs twice, totaling about 4 miles or more. They dogs were smiling!!!! Today's painting I included a close up of the brush stroke and the colors used. It is a calm painting but rich in detail and thickness of paint. Today Trina is driving down from Gainesville to paint. She was here on Saturday with the women that came to paint. Trina was working on a gorgeous sunflower and amazed me with her quick adaption to the Holbein Duo Oils. I can't wait to see what she paints today. I will be working on some sunflowers and a horse painting I started this past weekend. Happy living today. Grace, Laurie "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8
NEW SERIES HORSE OF MANY COLOR Horses Running One 24 x 36 x 2 inches I could not resist. I finished this absolutely unbelievable piece. I worked in colors, scraping and adding and layering and scraping again. I watch the colors as they blend and I begin to see forms shaping out of the color. I cannot wait to do another! This was energizing and creative to the point of dance! Off to gather the groceries. Laurie
A MOMENT 24 X 36 inches A Painting A Day It is really cool out this morning. Terry and I just returned from a two mile walk with the dogs. Actually they sorta run ahead and I trail behind. But it felt good to wear a jacket; before we left, Terry traded his summer shorts for some jeans! I knew it was cool then. Must be almost time for the Texas State Fair. This painting captures a moment in a horse's day as it stop to nudge a fly off it's leg. Vivid colors in this approach of both the background and the horse itself. The paint is very thick and layered in about 6 layers. Today I will start another... Grace to you all, Laurie " Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Phillippians 4:6-7
Lamp Light in the Park 11 x 14 inches A Painting a Day Rain is here again. Outside the window is a beautiful lightening storm accompanied by rain. It is my oldest son's birthday today, he is 31. My I am getting old. Seems like yesterday he was born. With him in from Long Island, my painting schedule has been delayed somewhat. I did finish this painting up and again working on masonite, enjoyed the fresh movement of paint on the smooth surface. I am currently working on a pack of wolves springing across a meadow at sunrise...the five of them are uniquely "piled" on the surface and carved out of paint. I am debating colors yet for the background but hope to post this tomorrow or the next day. It is done with a palette knife. Grace to all, Laurie " Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands." Psalm 90:17
