Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” ― Lao Tzu It is not bad but it is not exactly where I want to be... but I am going to press on with this.  her face is way way too tight. Yes, she is at Disney, her second most favorite place on earth next to home.   I may experiment with my horses with this approach, but I am determined to get somewhere with the figurative

I will post the entire painting tomorrow. It is hanging drying and things could change but my granddaughter loves it like it is.  So I do not know... if I will work on it more or not at this point.  I am using oils and loving the freedom I am achieving it on most of the canvas... just not the face.  (Insert sad smiley face)    But I hav

It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” ― Albert Einstein This is how this painting has evolved. The face is still too defined but I want to concentrate on the whole of the body of the painting. The skirt of the dress may not get much more and lots of the canvas will remain unpainted... untold... the story needs to be filled in by the viewer.  Not sure how far to play with it and not ruin the attempt. Face looks too much like a mask.  "who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire

Life is about creating yourself.” ― George Bernard Shaw Time to share a journey.. but just the basics over a few days.  It began with a drawing of my eldest granddaughter from two years ago... but I am not a figurative painter anymore... what was can no longer be and I am pushing to go a different direction and I know this painting will not reach it but it will be a stepping stone to where I need to go. Suddenly my tightness has jumped in overcharge. This may take months of painting several pieces to get where my heart is pull

To ensure that the self doesn’t shrink, to see that it holds on to its volume, memories have to be watered like potted flowers, and the watering calls for regular contact with the witnesses of the past, that is to say, with friends. They are our mirror; our memory; we ask nothing of them but that they polish the mirror from time to time so we can look at ourselves in it.” ― Milan Kundera, Identity  While I like this q

It came suddenly, in purple. In the clear air, the stars drilled down out of the sky, reminding any thoughtful watcher that it is in the deserts and high places that religions are generated. When men see nothing but bottomless infinity over their heads they have always had a driving and desperate urge to find someone to put in the way.” ― Terry Pratchett, Jingo Human nature for sure. Lewis, The Four Loves I cannot believe it is almost the end of the first week in July.  If you have not followed me long, let me be the first to tell you I am not a warm weather person.  I am one of THOSE people that keep the air cool in the house and prefer to be in long sleeves or with a flannel shirt on.  I sleep with blankets and quilts.   If you are one of THOSE people...  what.. .you too?
