Beginnings of Making Headway Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Very Beginnings Making Headway  16 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas. Available  I am always sketching and referring back to sketches that really pull to me when I am working.   I did not know which sketch I would use at this point as I began to put colors in the background. Note I am working horizontally as I block in color.  I have to trust in the spirit of the paint as it builds. It ended up going vertical.  This is a 16 x 20 painting, small for me but more affordable to collect. Truly we have no control in our lives either.  We think things are 'horizontal'...but they turn out 'vertical'.  Only God knows and until you trust in Him, you life cannot be filled with His grace or His peace. Great peace have those who love your law,     and nothing can make them stumble. Psalm 119:65 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist Pace Studio  Graphics One Design M

Herd on the Occoquan Overlook Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Herd on the  Occoquan Overlook 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas. Click here to seek close ups or to purchase the painting.   This is the last painting I started at the workshop but completed in my home studio.  I realized how much I missed my painted pony pulls while I was demonstrating.  This one has incredible colors that really do not show well on the computer screen. It is powerful and direct and with a dedicated memory to a dear friend. Her home overlooked the Occoquan River in Woodbridge Virginia. A beautiful home that hosted many wonderful events with her support community for Sunrise children with Tourette Syndrome.   Hard to count ALL the ponies in this one, so pay attention as you do! I seek you with all my heart;  do not let me stray from your commands.  I have hidden your word in my heart  that I might not sin against you.  Psalm 119:10-11 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist

Weathering the Storm in Progress by Texas Artist Laurie Pace, Abstract Horse Paintings

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Weathering the Storm  30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas. In Progress  This is about 8 hours in and still not sure of direction but I am loving the palette colors chosen for this horse painting. I began with the orange paint, then the soft turquoise, then the blues... after that came quinacridone golds, purples, lavender and brown pink. The personality is beginning to develop.   Laurie Pace A Texas Artist Golden Pond Studio My Blog          My Website          Giclees on Canvas, Prints and Cards          CFAI.co      GALLERY LINKS Mirada Fine Art Denver CO ,   The Rare Gallery Jackson Hole WY   The White Dog Gallery Carbondale, CO. Progress on Day Break Commissioned Oil Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Day Break Commissioned Painting  28 x 56 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  I began working in the upper left corner. I have to set up the paint to be bright and vivid enough to with stand a layer of white, carmel, maybe reds and more white for the mane.  They have specifically ask for some blue in the sky, which is not a normal for me in any way.  So as I work toward the right side top I will infuse some blues with Horizon Blue and some Cobalt Blue. (Holbein Duo Oils) The pinks and oranges evolved from Light Cad Yellow and Quinacridone Red and then working into the white with the QRed. I tried NOT to have purple from the pink on the blue. That is controlled by pressure in the knife. Summer Winds Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Summer Winds 40 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas.  Summer Winds was quite a progressive Horse Painting. I began by rotating my canvas on the easel a quarter turn at a time and working the entire canvas with layers of paint. After I covered the entire surface I immediately knew what I saw in the painting. These are not normal palette colors for me, but I was pulled strongly to thinking of summer winds and how when they are strong they feel like they could blow right through you. They become a part of who you are. Same in the painting... the summer winds are not cold, but they move through each horse in the herd with the layers of paint weaving it all together.   This piece is at MIrada Fine Art in Denver. Another Horse was Found in Racing the Morning! Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Another Horse Appeared.... Read and see more below. He was found coming up along side.   © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace                                                 Graphics One Design 2013 Racing the Morning  28 x 42 inches Oil on Canvas.  I could not even sleep on this one. Something was missing but I could not place the hesitation that plagued me.   The camera was still not functioning and I spent four hours yesterday taking shots in various settings and finally in my non camera brain went to the internet to try and grasp what was happening.  Something called the ISO number was causing the grainy texture on every picture and it was driving me nuts.  I began to reset things and adjusted them. The suggested setting was 100 on the internet but I ended up at 800 I believe.  It was too slow at 100.  I shoot without a flash  to capture the paintings.  While I am working I take progress shots and then take them into photoshop to look at the paint

First Day Progress on Early Morning Race Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace, Golden Pond Studio

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Early Morning Race 28 x 42 inches Oil on Canvas.  Have not a clue the direction this is going.  I cannot seem to get my camera in a good place to shot images with the light right either. This canvas was primed with a light wash of acrylic in blue and quinacridone orange in preparation for this horse painting. Right now it is more color placement and establishing composition and energy. Feels strong but with a painting, no different from life, it can take a total turn into a different direction. Music in the studio today was Air Supply, Darius Rucker and Ellis Paul. May your Tuesday be filled with His love. Meditate on the love in your life today...be it Love of our Heavenly Father or love that is from your friends and family. We are all blessed with Love. It is there for the acceptance.
