COMING SOON....

We are almost to August. I am still battling heat fatigue and temperatures over 106 degrees daily.   I am thinking of what is ahead that I get excited about and giving praises every day.

In Sept I begin my FIFTH ANNUAL year of Painting it Forward.... Playing it forward, Paying it forward... etc   For the months of Sept, Oct and Nov if you contact me for commission work, I truly try to paint for your budget. I only do a limited amount of paintings at this discount rate, but I love doing it and every year there are some truly thrilled collectors.   I do it at this time of the year in preparation for Christmas and the holidays.  Paintings are pretty special gifts and I love being apart of it.

With most of my commissions come a personalized hard back book of the painting from sketches all the way through completion, compiled and printed (one copy only) for the collector of the painting.  I personalize the books too if the collector has certain things they want included.

So in the spirit of preparation and looking ahead... I am ready to paint it forward.  Contact me if you have a special request... lets get into the spirit a month early.

Complete Whole Health Optimizer

I started drinking a wonderful vegan protein drink from Numedica that has really changed my body and energy level in less than a few days. I have been drinking it for a week now.   It is not the high in fiber drink but the high in protein drink.  24 grams in one shake. Unfortunately I cannot drink a whole shake...so I am only in taking 12-14 grams.  I mix up about one scoop with a banana and some fresh blueberries.  I put in my tablespoon of my Carlson Lemon Fish Oil (NO taste or aftertaste or burping) and my two drops of Carlson Vit D and I am set. I was struggling with the yogurt every morning with my lactose intolerance and I am not a heavy breakfast eater at all. I use to be, but not now.

This really has made a huge difference in my eating patterns through out the day. I am not hungry and my body seems to be more balanced with so many cravings.  This is only in the midst of week two... so more time is needed.  Some one emailed and ask about the taste... it is truly GOOD. Using my little KitchenAid hand whipper in place of a blender makes it even better. ( I bought one for mom this week too.. love it!)

My point is what a simple change of food in take made again as I am on my hardest level of the last ten pounds I am wanting to lose. The 20 pounds taken off in the past year are off and have stayed off and I do not intend to go backwards again.  I have learned an incredible amount from www.eatrightamerica.com and from my mother and our dietician at Northlake Health Foods.

Spiritual health is more important. One prayer accepting Jesus into your life makes a 180 degree change for you and for those around you. Light pours through and the power of God is instilled in your heart with the Holy Spirit. Learn to pray and develop a relationship with the Father.  The changes in your mind and spirit go way further than this vegan protein drink.

Time to get a grip spiritually and physically. Make some simple changes today. This is the day that the Lord hath made...rejoice, give thanks and be glad in it.

Who are you?

Really, who are you?  Think about it for a few moments. If you were going to guess how people view you, who are you?  Our view of our self is NOT what others actually see.  What do they see?

You are a pure reflection of your thoughts. They actually affect your facial expressions, your mannerisms and your speech. So who are you?

You are a product of your thinking... describe yourself by describing how you think.

"I am a rose colored glasses person. Negativity is not my way."

Hey wait I say it is not there, BUT it is there.  WHY?  Because I have negative thoughts through out the day.  I worry and I think of things that I should not dwell on. Even though I do not describe myself that way... that is how people see me if they are around me.  I don't think they do, but they do. I worry and try to hide it behind those rose colored glasses.

We never truly see ourselves as others see us. We have this "boxed image" of what we want others to see that we have created in our minds to represent us.  Sorry to tell you, that is NOT what they see.  That is the picture you have created in your mind of who you are that you see, but not what others see.

Begin by eliminating one bad habit and replacing it with a good one. For me it is to work on the worry element. I have begun banishing it by immediately reciting from Paul's words. I want to learn to leave my worries with my prayers... for everything...not just now and then. This is a new habit I am trying to instill in my life.

Life is full of change and change is nothing more than change. How we react to it and view it determines if we see it as something of value or not.  As a believer we must recognize all change is from God and we must allow Him to do His perfect work in us.  We may not react at first in a positive way, but that is where prayer must come in to help us refocus and put Him first. Thoughts of heaven and our Father and what is perfect and right in His eyes. If that is our focus change can happen.

Through the good and the bad, the happy and the sad, through illness and health, through laughter and tears, 'my help cometh from the Lord, which made Heaven and earth.'

Closing Doors and Open Windows

Have you ever felt closed in a room and the door was locked?  You tried to open windows and they were basically stuck having not been opened in years?  Often panic will set in as you see only lack and limitation. You lack a way out and you are totally limited by the confines of the room.

The door is locked from the outside. There is no key on the table in the room...but if you will slow down and look around... you will begin to see all the wonderful things in the room that you have right now.  Open your heart to what surrounds you and allow the panic to subside.  Believe in good, feel His light and His peace.  It is then you will realize there is a window still open... it was behind you all the time... and the light flooding through it fills your heart and mind.

Go and see what God has for you my friend. Let the light shine in.

WOOLGATHERING

I was reading The Colonel's Lady by Laura Frantz today and came across the term woolgathering.  I had not heard that term in years. The more I thought about it the more I realized we all are intense wool gathers.  As we try so hard in life to make things work our way...our way is the wooly way. It is what we have gathering up in our brain to be the way things should be. You can find the definition as: Indulgence in idle fancies and in daydreaming; absentmindedness.

Laura's book was anything but that, and I did not put it down until I finished the last page.  But the term woolgathering stayed with me as I reflected on it.  Then I had picked up my Bible and was reading Joshua today... I was only in the first chapter when I read the verses I posted below and the tears were coming down my face.

Why do we feel like we have to fix everything and plan everything and resolve everything? Why do we feel so afraid? God is with us as He was with Moses...and most of you know what Moses went through. He was dealing with a ton of personalities plus his own inadequacies with his lisping and speech impediments. Could you truly believe it if I said to you...NO ONE WILL STAND AGAINST YOU ALL THE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE ?

Instead of worrying about things that will never happen or planning for things you have no control over...start thinking about the verses I have below. I will be repeating these words often...as they spoke to my heart. I hope they speak to to your heart as well.

Laurie

Joshua 1:5-9   "No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.  Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Rest and Peace

What do you associate these words with?  Some folks might laugh and say death.  No wait, that is Rest in Peace.  You do not have to get so extreme to get rest and peace or even rest in peace.

God offers that peace to us every single second of the day.  It is waiting to be inhaled in a deep breath and held and slowly expelled.  It is in the small humming bird on the feeder or the bee on the rose.  This simple peace passes all understanding all right... it passes over our heads and lives 98% of the day.

The challenge for you and me my friend is to figure out how to shake off all the blinders and empty your pockets of the rocks you carry. Then start breathing slow deep breaths. Refocus your mind and let go of ALL of your thoughts. Float on the peace and feel the rest.

In prayer when you ask for things, give thanks and know that it will be given. You will not always see the results as you think you should but God is working. Go back this weekend and allow Sunday to be a pure day of peace and rest.  Release ALL the struggles of the week or even the year. Do not worry about the good missing from your life.  You are so concentrated on what is missing, you can no longer see what you have.

You will find the abundance in peace as you rest. Your highest good is on its way to you right now. Prepare for this next Sunday....look forward to it like you do Christmas or family gatherings. Every day is the Lord's Day... every day you should experience this peace and rest, but start small if you must and lets aim for next Sunday. This gives you a few days to prepare and make it a habit.  Then spread some of that same stillness into every day.

Pearls of Wisdom

"I did the best that I knew how to do at the time. When I knew better, I did better."  Jan Wenstrand

When visiting with Jan we spent time catching up on the past few months. She is such a dear faith based friend and so helpful with me staying focused.  At the point I was being miserable about what might be...and what was...she told me to focus on the words above. I felt such relief as I rolled those thoughts through my mind... and felt such an uplifting that I wanted to share her wisdom.

Living life the best we can with prayer, discernment, discretion and thought... and giving to Him what we cannot do is the the best way. Then realizing it is only through making mistakes that we grow stronger and wiser.

Through God's Grace

We receive all through God's grace. It appears around us in countless ways when we least expect it and often do not even see it.

Our Father loves spoiling us and it gives Him pleasure to pleasure us with the desires of our hearts.  You won't see it or feel it though if you have not opened your heart and body to Him. Be ready to receive.... it is right there ready to be taken. Grace is His blessing to us and often more than just a gift.  I am grateful for His constant love and providence.

I sat outside early this morning and thoroughly enjoyed the chorus of birds. Terry had the sprinkler going in the back yard and the birds were flitting through it and then flying to the feeder, eating and going back to play in the water.  The Hummingbirds were busy fighting over the feeder and occasionally would dash over to the flowering buds on the crepe myrtle tree next to me.  Out in the pond the turtles were doing what turtles do best... having turtle races in the water.  In the lot next door were two very young deer on their way down to the lake to drink...and the squirrels were chattering over head in the tree next to the swing.  In the distance I heard the light tapping of the woodpecker.  Grace and gifts abound.

Love and Contentment

Feeling good... what does it take?  What small things give you goose bumps? Sometimes when Lady L takes my hand and smiles at me... I get goose bumps. The pureness of her unconditional love moves me literally from where ever my mindset is, to a point of pure love affected and conquered by nothing. Those times are few in our lives and we need to nurture more of them.

When I taught fourth grade way back in the nineties, I would pick up my class after lunch and we would go back to the classroom to rest. They had gone from their lunches to outside running wild and playing. I believed in a transition time for their minds and bodies to slip back to a study mode and calm state.
Upon our return from lunch, the room would have the lights off but pure day light streaming in the seven large windows on the north side of the classroom. I had a comfy chair to sit in and they sprawled across the carpets, desks, and odd ball chairs through out the room. I had a book I read from daily... and they all looked forward to the story we were reading. A few actually napped, but most would close their eyes and just listened.  There were a few that wanted to brush and style my hair while they listened... we were definitely a motley crew.  But our little classroom was home to them.  They spent 9 hours a day with me in our home away from home. Often that was most of their waking hours as they would only have about 5 hours of waking time in their home. Less if they did after school care before they went home. With 180 days together we knitted together a beautiful temporary family that worked, played, celebrated and grew together.  That small 30 minutes in our day was something we all looked forward too and we were all sad when it was time to turn on the lights and face the reality of science or history.  I think of those students today... egads they are now nearing the old age of 25-26.

Maybe that is a good thing to set aside that special 30 min every day to just do something that makes you feel connected with love. Maybe that is time in the bible or prayer. Maybe that is time riding your horse. Could be time spent with family where you are focused only on them and what you are doing.  Is it possible in this day and age to find that 30 minutes?

POST NOTE: Just heard on the national news that the massive heat wave causes a loss of serotonin in the brain. That is needed for you to be healthy and mentally balanced... stay out of the heat.  Makes sense after what I have been feeling the past two weeks. We are on day 24 of over 100 degree temps.

Soaring Spirits

Have you ever awakened in the morning with soaring spirits?  You literally bound out of bed ready to face the world, or you have something really special about to happen that day?

That excitement comes from your perspective at the time. Our human brain is limited and that does influence how we react to things around us. The hope is we learn to seek a wholeness when we are ill; to believe in abundance when our financial situation is tight; to work with the knowledge we have gained in our lifetime to be wise in our decisions.

Last few weeks I have been struggling with a confused state of mind. (My siblings would probably say I stay this way...) but usually I am very directed and assertive like my father and mother.  I am learning to sit back quietly and find that oneness with God. It is only from Him that I can reconnect and find that joy to have soaring spirits when I wake from the night.

Emails from friends have really been uplifting to me this week. I am seeing things differently as I pray and sit back and take in the abundance in my life and the infinite possibilities ahead. The depression I was in was fed by the hot hot weather and the dying trees around us and the pond losing so much water. Seeing our land suffering along with the wildlife and fish, and I can do nothing to help any of it, but pray and know the Lord will send the rain.

Today has been busy... I am blogging late again. Terry worked on some tile in the kitchen and will finish it up tomorrow. I painted another wolf pack as you see above for the Jackson Hole Gallery and am working on another 24 x 36 to replace the one they sold.  I even took a nap this afternoon and Ann Morgan came by to visit. I never nap... and it felt so good. It brought SMILES when Ann arrived. Terry and I enjoyed the visit.

God is good. Abundance surrounds us even in the heat.

THE PATH

Some mornings when you wake up you have no idea where the day will be going.  This morning when I stumbled out of bed, Terry was already up.  He came back into the bedroom and announced we had to clean out the entire china cabinet and move it.

I admit I looked at him and wondered if I was dreaming, but I ask why and was told Paddy had decided it looked like a tree in the middle of the night. We have wood floors and we knew the liquid would be under as well as against the cabinet.  After I showered we got busy... or I should say he did. Bless him as he removed EVERYTHING; His Grandmother's China, all of our crystal, our Christmas Crystal and serving dishes, our special collectible from the last two centuries.  He was even going to wash it all before he put it back in. I convinced him that was not necessary. We would wash what we used before we used it.

In the midst of this he found a letter his Dad wrote him on his fiftieth birthday, ten years ago. He and his dad were very close.  Inside the letter was a picture of his dad in Korea. Terry was only a year old then... and his Dad was reflecting back to that first year of life and how dear his first born son was to him.

We are nearing Sept and the first anniversary date of Ben's Continuation Day. His laughter is missed. His stories are missed. His smile is missed. It is up to us in our path today to take those memories and share the practices with others. We are heading into town for groceries and I love smiling and saying good morning and thinking of Ben. He would be stopping to visit with every one along the way.

What will you discover on your path today?

JOY is Mine.

As I reflect more on the wisdom of not worrying... substituting joy instantly into my thought process when it begins to waver into forbidden worry area... I find that JOY is mine...and it is but a blink and a positive thought away. How easy could that be?

There are times in our lives that our spirits ebb and drop into a low area. I believe it must be normal because if we did not have our lows we would not have our highs.  Days of deep sadness are balanced by days of laughter and love with family or friends.  Some days we find depressing thoughts creeping into our mind and other days we are bouncing out of bed at first light to conquer the world with our ideas and passions.

The Holy Spirit allows us to connect to a positive flow of peace, love and happiness. If you change your thoughts you can and will change your emotions. I did it on Sunday. Sunday was a low day for me and I forced myself to look up to the clouds as we traveled home from Dallas. I saw Abe Lincoln snoring away, and a horse bolting across the sky. Sure it only distracted me for a few moments, but I continued to force myself to find the next piece of beauty in God's creation. Suddenly we had 20 raindrops on the windshield. It was 105 outside and what magical cloud blessed us I am not sure, but I felt like we were "sprinkled" with His Promise that He will see us through this drought.

All of your actions and words are driven by the spirit within you. Choose JOY today. Joy is yours too.

Summer Memories

I have been reading the book Anxious for Nothing by John MacArthur. It seems to be the book of travel as it was in my bags from our last trip a week ago.  Something stuck in just the first chapter, a conversation the author created between Sherlock Homes and Dr Watson.   Holmes is telling Watson he sees things but does not observe things.  They are in a room they have been in many times together. Holmes asks Watson how many times he has climbed the stairs to the room... Watson can only say many times, but not a specific number. Then Holmes asks him how many steps he climbs each time. Watson of course has no idea.  Holmes points out to him that he has 'seen' the stairs but not 'observed the stairs'.

Are you thinking about that now?  We all go through life seeing things, but are we really SEEING things?  Are we observing and taking in everything that is there?  Maybe it's like seeing a glass of cold chocolate milk... or seeing it, lifting it to your lips and consciously drinking it.  Close your eyes. Can you take a long deep breath and image that hot summer day and the taste of the deep chocolate mom stirred in your milk...and the fresh tingle of cold as you swallow/gulp it down not stopping and enjoying the taste, the feel and the sensation of the milk?  Quite a bit different than just seeing the glass of milk on the counter.

Last night I was sitting on the couch and an anxious thought of worry hit me and I heard my inner voice shout NO.  I looked around the room at my Mom sitting in her chair, Terry across the room in the massage chair, the fan clicking overhead, Gracie dog sprawled across the floor... mom's angels all over the den... and then I realized I forgot about the worry thing.

Is it really possible when you are consumed by worry or a situation that you can divert your attention and stop and observe the hand of God around you? I believe then you will feel the arms of God around you and a peace you have not had in a long time.

When I work early this morning, the first sensation I had was the cotton sheet gently blowing over my body from the fan in the room.  I laid there as I began my morning prayers totally aware of the sensation of the fluttering sheet and how relaxed I was. Terry was still sleeping and I laid there quietly for about an hour or more before I got up to shower.

Write me and let me know what you begin to observe in your life today. STOP and look around and really take in what is there. God is good.

Laurie
