This is the beginning sketch for a commissioned painting in the line of the conductor I painted three years ago.  I am really excited about painting this because I play the piano. The woman I am painting this for is an internationally known conductor as well as an internationally know pianist.

As you know Lady L is visiting so my blog is short today.  Terry snapped this of  the two of us on the swing yesterday.

 Ducks in a Row

Does that ever happen?  Terry gave up making plans. He was weary of spending so much time and energy and then nothing worked... but he does enjoy God's laughter.   We are trying to make plans for the next three months... well maybe tentative plans??  Is that possible? Should we call them goals?

Whatever it is called, we are trying to get our "ducks in a row" .

Where did that phrase come from:

1.  "How simple it seemed. My marks were excellent. The second year, reading Caesar's Gallic wars was not. That's where "Forty Ducks in a Row" came into being. Caesar's Latin actually read, "Forte Dux in Aro" - translated to "Brave Leader in Battle". We wise guys merely visualized it the other way perhaps because it was easier to remember.

2. "Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, ISBN 0-06-270133-9
An American expression meaning to have one's arrangements completed, to have things organized or lined up; or, literally, to have one's skittles set up. In an American bowling alley the skittles, or pins, are called ducks."

3. From the Phrase Finder Forum
"Primitive versions of modern bowling were known many centuries ago. Pins of varied sizes and shapes were employed. Eventually they were standardized at fifteen inches in both height and circumstances. Originally called ten-pins, the equipment used in Europe was employed in the earliest American bowling saloons. The game was modified by introduction of a short, slender pin that was compared with a duck and, by extension, called them duckpins. So many people reset so many pins in rows that one who completes a task is commended as having put his 'ducks in a row.'

Can you hear laughter from heaven?

Laurie

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” - 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Memorial Day

This is still part of our first year without Ben's physical presence in our lives.  Spiritually we feel him daily in his beliefs and teachings that he gave this family.

He served God first and foremost in his life.  He served his country both in the Air Force as well as in the Navy.    We love him and miss him and are grateful for his giving in our lives and his defending of the country he loved so much.  Our prayers today are for all those who serve in our armed forces depending our rights of freedom and liberty and to the thousands that have gone before them blazing trails for others to be free.

THE WEDDING
It is already 9:30 on Sunday...and I have been up since seven transferring images from our camera to photoshop and into facebook and now a few for the blog.  Can't write much today but sharing the joy.

The wedding was FABULOUS.  A bit hot as the A/C seemed unable to keep up.  You can see the sweat on our brows literally.  The reception area was a bit better but still not Texas cool for the heat wave that descended upon us.

Morgan and Kelly are bound for their honeymoon on the beach for the next week...the new Mr and Mrs Pace.  I asked Terry if that also gave her the new
Mrs Honey Bunny nick name.   He replied she is the Mrs. Mini Honey Bunny.

Blessings to all.

The Day has arrived!  Our youngest son gets married this evening.  I had pictures on my iphone from the rehearsal last night, but have encountered the strangest thing that my iphone has no internet connect for some odd reason. Not sure if this is universal or related only to my iphone.  Justin just hooked my iphone up to internet.

The old Dallas Church they kids chose to get married in looks pretty ancient. The owner which converted it to a wedding venue, did not have the history on the church. Terry is a mason and we were telling him that most times the first foundation cornerstone would have some indication of marking of the date that the building was constructed.  The owner truly knew nothing of the history of the building and we thought it would be awesome to know more.  The last congregation in the church was a black congregation but he did not even know if it was Baptist or what denomination it was. The church is located at 3603 Ross Ave in Dallas.  Here is one of those Google maps screen shots, but the trees are huge know in comparison.   I wish I knew more about architecture.

Terry is taking the Canon 7D to the wedding tonight. He has a shaking hand with it but maybe we will get some decent shots. If and when my iphone works again, I will post the shots of rehearsal on facebook and to the blog.

Lady L kept running around saying "Mama UP, Practice, Practice"  She would then hold her basket of rose petals and walk a few steps and drop a handful and turn and wait for us to all clap our hands... and she would repeat the process ALL the way up the aisle.  I asked Stacey if we were suppose to clap at the wedding for her to encourage her up the aisle.

Lady L "Practice Practice Practice"

Keith has married all three of our children; he has buried our oldest grandson and baptized our youngest grandchild, Lady L.   We are blessed to have him in our lives. He said he had married many children he had baptized but this was a first marrying all three kids from one family.  We love him and he has enriched and given much to us over the past years.

This morning we will be sharing breakfast shortly (Terry and I made a trip to Whole foods for plain yogurt, fresh blueberries and bananas, while Justin intends to make fatty fatty fatty foods for Morgan who spent the night here.) Then Terry and I are heading to Union Station in Dallas to pick up Crystal for the wedding. We are excited she will be home to share all of this. Then it will be a hopefully healthy lunch, appointed shower times for seven folks to begin to get ready and then off to the church.

- Wedding Song -
He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts.
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on His part.
The union of your spirits here has caused Him to remain,
for whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name,
There is love. There is love.
Oh, a man shall leave his mother, and a woman leave her home.
They will travel on to where the two will be as one.
As it was in the beginning, is now until the end,
woman draws her life from man
and gives it back again and there is love.
Oh, there's love.
Well then what's to be the reason for becoming man and wife?
Is it love that brings you here or love that brings you life?
For is loving is the answer then who's the giving for?
Do you believe in something that you've never seen before?
Oh, there's love. There is love.
He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts.
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on His part.
The union of your spirits here has caused Him to remain
for whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name
there is love. Oh, there is love.

Counting to 10

Sometimes I wonder why we don't talk about counting to 10 more often.  As the wedding draws near this weekend I am watching those I love begin to battle and second guess themselves and the carefully laid plans. I almost lost it this morning. I should have remembered to count to 10.  I did not.  I stopped doing what I was doing and looked up and said 'WHY are you worrying about this? You are borrowing trouble and there is NOTHING we can do about it right now."  Obviously that was not what the person wanted to hear as they went off on a loud commanding tirade of words. Maybe just counting to 10 would have given slight reflection time for both of us.

There are so many low priority things in life that we tend to over-react to. WHY do we do this? No one is dying, no one is hurt...but we cling to our principles and our ways demanding to be heard like it is life or death.

The past years I have truly gained insight in reflecting before speaking.  When I want to pop off on a subject I stop and examine if this is indeed the right time to bring it up. 95% of the time I table it and revisit it at a better time.  Ten years ago I would have never done this. Now I do it all the time.  Weigh the words before they are spoken.  Count to ten and then weigh the words.

Abstract Horse Painting by Texas Contemporary Equine Artist Laurie Pace, Prayer for Marriage

Striving
Sold

This is where it first began when I was about 11 or 12 years old.  It was the summer between 7th and 8th grade.

This was 1966... at a party.  We had a huge group of friends and we gathered every Saturday at a different house for dancing, Twister and Spin the Bottle.

This was in 1991 when we got married...twenty years ago. This was our engagement picture.  Wow look at all that hair!  He even has a mustache.

The wedding that followed.....and now twenty years later!   You will have to wait for those pictures.
I am still pretty sick and it put a huge damper on our plans.  Most of you know Morgan and Kelly are getting married on Saturday.

We are tickled their anniversary will be so close to ours!! Our prayers surround them as they take this step and begin their journey.

I decided to share this marriage prayer that Terry and I have used over the years we have been together.  Copy and save it; print it out and pray together with your spouse.

PRAYER FOR MARRIAGE

Most gracious God, we give you thanks for your tender love in sending Jesus Christ to come among us, to be born of a human mother, and to make the way of the cross to be the way of life.

We thank you, also, for our marriage in Your Name.  By the power of your Holy Spirit, pour out the abundance of your blessing upon us.

Defend us from every enemy and Lead us through the painful times giving us the courage to make the journey and find the j oy that grows from learning.  Give us peace, love and truth as part of the foundation of our love.

Let our love for each other be a seal upon each of our hearts, a mantle about about our shoulders, and a crown upon our foreheads.

Bless us daily in our work and in  our companionship; in our sleeping and in our waking; in our sorrows and in our joy; in our life and in our death.

Finally in your mercy, bring us to that table where your saints feast forever in your heavenly home; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and Reigns, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

On the Wave...

My mother's day present arrived yesterday.  I did not try it out yet because my ears are still stopped up from this head cold...but the kids bought me a new bose wave system and the soundlink is on it's way to pump my itunes into it.  Boy my studio will rock now!

When things arrive in our lives they often cause other things to happen, be it positive blooming or sometimes difficult things to overcome.  God wants us to learn to ride that wave.  Do not fight it, but ride it.  Like being that leaf in a stream tousled by the waves and rocks.  We tend to get hurt in life when we fight things. God wants us to ride the wave. If we do that we will not be pulled under.

Hopefully my new Wave will bring more music to my painting; smiles to my buyers; laughter and love infused in my work.

Ride the wave today... know God is there.

Sharing

As much as I love my husband... I did not need him to share his cold and bronchitis with me.  Yesterday the cold hit in full force and I spent the day in bed. I am moving slowly this morning, but will not get to do much. Was suppose to finish painting for Denver and finish up a few more Jackson Hole Paintings. So this blog is very short.

Sitting here the room is spinning. Think it is my stopped up ears.  It is also not fun because I do not take meds...strictly some Zinc, throat coat tea and I chew gum to try and pop my ears.

Somehow we both have to be back on our feet in about three days to head in for the wedding. Please pray for our healing.  Obviously God wanted me to rest for awhile and that is my intent today. My plans are definitely not His plans right now.

The Sun Will Come Out

I saw a sign at the Baptist Church when I drove Terry in to town yesterday for more medicine.  "The Lord Reigns and the Son Shines."  I took a liking to that; when I came home I had these buffalo sketched out on the canvas. Orginally there were more in the distance but once I had that phrase in mind the buffalo painting become three buffalo for symbolic representation of Father, Son and Holy Ghost.  The Son Shines... even in the painting! Yeah, that was corny but it was true.  This painting style and approach is like my Hidden in the Woods Painting for Denver.  I am not sure if this is Denver bound or Jackson bound.

We had rain finally but not enough. I am grateful we maintained power through the storms.  Vicki phoned to report they were having heavy rain at their ranch northwest of town. Here at the lake it rained about three hours maybe; fortunately no hail in the storm but lots of lightening.

When you think of life and the 'storms' that roll in on us, some have heavy hail and some just lots of fireworks and lightening. But the one thing you can count on is the sun will shine when the storm passes.  So true in your life with God.  He is overseeing everything. He is the sun that is shining above those dark heavy clouds, both the Father and the Son are watching over it all.  The Holy Spirit resides within you at all times.  That is part of Him indwelling in you always.

"The Lord Reigns and the Son Shines."

Laurie

He Follows You

I finished up this wolf painting yesterday and enjoyed the results of my labor. Terry complained that the eyes of the wolf followed him around the room. The best part was when Paddy came in and lowered himself in a stance and began growling at it.  I knew I was done then.  Those brilliant eyes... they seem to capture you and follow you where ever you go.

God follows you where ever you go as well.  His essence or spirit is within you, abiding within to empower you for God's good.  God knows what you will think before the thought even blooms in your head.  He knows what you need before you even realize it.  He does not really just follow you...rather He is leading you. You must be ready to follow Him.

This weekend is the wine festival and Mayfair Art show here in Mt Vernon.  I am suppose to be in town but waiting to see how Terry is feeling. He has a touch of bronchitis we think he caught from Lady L.  I wish I could share on my blog the video Stacey sent yesterday of Lady L. She was painting and she kept saying OMA PAINTS.... how can I love a grandchild so deeply?  Stacey says she is a pawprint of me... which makes me giggle because NONE of my three children are like me with art or music.  Morgan comes close, but not in the sense of the essence of I am art, Art I am....but Lady L does.  She loves piano, guitar and harp and painting and drawing.... Made me want to get in the car and drive two hours to paint with her.

May your weekend be filled with His abundant grace.

Breath of God

I am just in from sitting outside on the deck. I was up at six am awakened by the dogs stirring. Terry is still asleep. Ever since he cleaned up my studio on Sunday he has been hit hard with allergies from the dust and whatever else was out there. Sneezing and coughing.  I loaded him up with Benedryl last night as well as natural cough syrups, the same he used with his pneumonia last year.  Larry is down with bronchitis bordering pneumonia as well. His was from Lady L who had the croup.

I sat outside on the swing this morning wrapped in a blanket thoroughly enjoying a steady breeze off the lake. The trees were humming with the wind and it was steady enough to keep the mosquitoes at bay.  I prayed and listened and felt His breath on me with the wind gently blowing my hair.  I have been out there over an hour just watching the sky go from gentle gray of morning into that early light of blue with pink tinged clouds.  God's palette is renown for it's intensity, even at 6:45 in the morning.

Tiny birds learning to fly fluttered around me on the deck, some even at my feet. I was perfectly still as one lit on the cushion next to me... totally amazed at the perfection of this tiny bird which held no fear of me.  He jumped from the cushion to the deck and up to the rail and to a nearby branch of a large oak.  There were his siblings all hopping from branch to branch trying to figure out the wing thing. Pretty soon I watched them all solo across to a tree about 5 feet away. They seem to be celebrating the new day and their new found freedom.

It is with God that we have that freedom.  Why do we not see that?  The world around us beckons us with things that seem so important...while God offers us the peace that passes all understanding and with it the freedom to love and be loved. Most of us grab the earthy objects collecting more and more of them, basically forgetting the simplicity of His Love and His Way.

I am still learning day by day to open my heart fully and put away so much of the worldly that seems to consume my life.  If we have but this one life here on earth, we should be enjoying our life.  We should not be tied down to all the earthly misery that we seem to be attracted to.  Why do we need 168 channels on TV?  Why do we need Netflix? Why do we need to have 30 different choices of coffee in the morning or eat at restaurants that leave us bloated and miserable?
Why do we need to shop so much?  What is gained by the adventure of "the store' or the 'Trip to Target'?   We are enticed by color and things all around us?

God offers so much more if you stop, look and listen.  We taught it to our kids...now it is time to heed our own words.  This earth that He created for us provides everything we need.  Prosperity abounds with divine supply. Having family and friends with like minds makes the journey complete.  Go out today and feel the breath of God and see His beauty around you.  You don't even have to use a remote control.

Laurie

And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you.--1 Thessalonians 3:12

A Friend Smiles

I was working hard in the studio yesterday finishing up this piece and working on the bear I began at the workshop.  The doorbell rang and it was Ann Morgan, one of the workshop attendees and now a new friend from across the lake.

We were instantly talking about the workshop and about Jane, the wonderful artist from New Zealand.  Jane is an artist that is so respectful of mother-earth and all God has created.  The land is apart of Jane.  Her work celebrates the beauty and bounty of the Earth.

When a friend smiles they share the bounty of life and love. Life is fuller with our friends. God give us boundless moments to enjoy our lives and everything surrounding us.  We are often too busy to even realize what is there for us and who is there for us.

The next time a friend smiles, know the light that comes from that smile is from Him.  As you give to others, you open the way for them to be blessed with greater blessings through God.

Check out  Just Plain Sweet... I posted on it!

The Midnight Hour

It was near midnight when I stopped painting last night.  I was up about an hour ago but just now coming in to blog.  From workshop to Jackson Hole work this week and then to finish up the Denver work.  Add Morgan and Kelly's wedding to the mix and you have a busy May.

This weekend here in Mt Vernon is Mayfair for the annual art show and a wine festival. We evidently have vineyards nearby that Terry and I have not explored.

God's grace penetrates my mind in times like these. Seems like the plate is overfilled part with good things and part with busy work, but I find if I keep my eyes on Him and my heart open to Him, I will find my way.  I do not believe He wants our plates ever to be empty. Our work is to be empowered to spread His joy and His word in our every day life. Share love, share the word and spread the light.  Share His Joy.

Praying for Others

I miss going to the Ranch again early this morning. Actually Terry and I are heading out to see Candy and Dave at Selah Ranch around nine this morning.... but I miss the people that were here this weekend. I miss the artists and the artist-hood we developed.  I put the slide show over on the side column of this blog.  There were 13 attending artists... Barbara Haviland, Kristye Addison Dudley, Ann Morgan, Gladys Justus, Jane Crosbie from New Zealand, Nancy Coleman, Kathy Mackey, Barbara Brown, Wanda Wakefield, Belita Luman, Lori Wittke, and Katie and Neeya.

We became such a close family and staying at Selah is like being in the Garden of Eden.  The folks at the ranch kept us spoiled beyond your wildest dreams. The food was over the top of the scale and the accommodations were stunning. Candy has the gift of decorating to make you feel at home. Please visit their website: Selah Ranch

I am already thinking about a second workshop in November.  Let me know if you might be interested in visiting the Piney Woods of East Texas then or in October.  I was thinking November might be cooler but October would be pretty. So email me what would be better for you.  Hubby could come fish or just veg out in front of one of the huge big screen TVs and watch sports all day. There are things for the kids to do and their are golf carts to drive around the 1000 acres. The food will even knock him off his feet...clean air, good food, beauty all around and lots of creative art making.

I am holding all the artists that came to Selah Ranch in prayer as they return to their daily lives.  I affirm the love of God in their lives and in their art. This past weekend we confirmed in all of our work the synchronicity which reflects His creativity. As in life, as in art, there must be a spontaneity as well as serendipity in each composition. The artist must work PAST their comfort zone to be truly creating... otherwise they are in a rut painting the same old thing or painting what other artists are painting. NO ONE in this workshop painted anything like another person.  I watched some of the most technically correct painters painfully let go of stayed and true ways and open up their minds to approaching art in a different way. THEN learning to use different methods to check for balance and color outlay to improve values and final results in each piece they did.
