Celebrating Color

Yesterday morning I woke up in time to watch the leaving of the chapel by William and Kate.  I lingered in bed till almost eight enjoying the cold air creeping in the open windows and watching the news on the wedding.  Terry got up and pulled open the curtains and in flooded the morning light.  It was delightful. It was lovely... it reminded me of waking up at my grandmother's farm in St Louis in the country.  She had white curtains that fluttered on the window in the morning breeze.

With light of course comes color. They are woven together permanently bound by God.  You cannot have one without the other.  So when I struggled up this morning and finally made the studio, I began to paint in full color... and this one has over 20 layers of color and pure raw buttery paint.  This is one of my highly collected signature paintings of my Painted Ponies. It is more than layers of paint, but blending and weaving and pre-planning of colors and up-lays of color.  God played a huge role in this with my energy, the colors and the final product.

Celebrating color in our lives is celebrating light in our lives. Celebrating light in our lives is celebrating God in our lives. It is all one in the same as it weaves through our life and our soul.  Light reflects color to the eye. What do you reflect to those that see you during the day?

 In God's Time

Well, I am praying this morning will be better than yesterday.  I made it up and moving for about three hours yesterday and then it was back to bed.  Terry grilled some chicken for me and I ate a tiny bit of that and one English Muffin. It will be in His time and not mine.

Bless his heart, he ran into town to the store to pick up things and I ask for Popsicles.... and he brought back REAL FRUIT Popsicles which of course are not good to eat.   I hugged him and licked on one for a bit but told him the secret was clear fluid things!  I cannot wait to be better and eat those real fruit bars.

Meanwhile... I will probably catch replays of the wedding today and try and hit the studio.

Take a breather today and know that God holds you near and dear to His heart.

This is a short blog... I am pretty much under the weather with a tummy bug. I think quite a few of the folks that ate together on Sunday were hit by it...hit me mid day yesterday and still this morning I am weak as a new kitten.

Stay strong and stay healthy and stay safe.  Heavy rains, hail and tornadoes have ravaged east Texas moving further to the east doing even more damage.
I pray for all in the storm right now that you be safe.

Selfishness
I was reading in a book last night about being selfish in relationships. As always my brain skips ahead to my life and my relationships...especially Terry and I.  Nope neither of us are selfish.   This OBVIOUSLY does not apply to us.

Wrong.

The title of the chapter was "Love is not selfish". We do seem to exist in a world that is built around 'self'. We are taught from an early age to care about appearance, our feelings and our desires and goals.  If we want to be happy we have to seek these things.

Wrong.

This does not work in a relationship with another person.  Still as I read, I was still optimistic that this simply did not apply to Terry and me. We truly serve each other when we see the need.  The chapter continued on to say that almost every sin could be traced back to a selfish motive.  Our nature is to justify such actions in our self.  This is strange to have such high standards for our spouse than for ourselves.  When he is buried in the computer or TV I am always frowning. That is all he does.  AH...but when I complain about that and ALL the time I spend in cooking, cleaning, washing, working and painting...and he just sits in front of the screens....I am being selfish.

True love looks for ways to serve and meet needs before they are voiced.Genuine love leads to inner joy.  Take time to prioritize what you can do for your spouse with out any growing resentment. When you 'do' for them the glow of fulfillment is unbelievable and your spouse/mate will see your love shining for them.  In turn they will be reflecting this right back to you.

What is your 'reputation' with your spouse? Do you complain all day or are you constantly directing them to do things?  OR do you have a loving reputation that they see you as a blessing in their life?  If you like me have those selfish tendencies, realize now your partner has a tough job of trying to love and do things for you...a selfish person.

Time to demonstrate love and concern for that special person in your life. I know  my selfishness is my art and my 'have to get this done' attitude when it comes to Artists of Texas or Contemporary Fine Art International.  What comes first, my husband and family, or my constant worry and work that go with painting? Is it time with Terry or time writing this blog? As an artist there is a constant need to create and if I answer that call, I am sitting in front of my easel working or in front of my own computer screen.

So be it a screen or an easel... Terry and I have much to reflect on when we spend our talk time together this afternoon.  I think after reading this chapter I understand I am guilty of selfishness in disguise of thinking "Well I have to work..."

God will take care of what we need... He will provide the time and place for me to paint and I must take back into my heart the things I need to do to serve my husband with a contented heart and the same open love that I cherished years ago.  I spent hours planning special things for him and doing things for him.  Yes there are clean clothes, hot dinners, morning yogurt, and a daily walk.  I benefit from these as well, but none are directly special for him.

They do not compare to a tiny white box with a heart handkerchief and a special personal poem written just for him.  They do not compare to little notes taped to the mirror in the bathroom...or even writing I LOVE YOU on the toilet paper before he uses it.

Or what about preplanning a trip in an antique SNJ airplane for him for his birthday when we were in NY for an art show?

The deepest question again to take to heart is: "What is your reputation with your spouse?"  How do others see you?

Throwing Rocks

I once told you how I felt about life that we tend to gather up rocks and stuff them in our pockets. You never know when you will need all those rocks you carry around.  Your load would be much lighter without them.

This next story is about rocks but slightly different.  We have a pond out back behind the house. Normally we have mini fishermen and their grandpas instructing them on casting and fishing.   Last week there was a little boy with a small sailboat on the bank.  He was so excited placing the boat into the water and realized there was not much wind so he splashed the water making waves and the little boat ended up stuck in the middle of the pond.  His grandpa was sitting on the park bench and he realized what had happened.  He was across the end of the pond from where the little boy stood.

Grandpa gathered up some nearby rocks and pebbles and began throwing the rocks at the little boat. Oh that little boy was hysterical. He thought his grandpa was trying to sink his boat.  His grandmother hurried across the little dam to where he was standing sobbing his heart out crying to his grandpa  to stop hurting his boat.  Grandma gathered him close soothing him and pointed out to the pond where the little boat was rocking on tiny ripples heading right back to where the little boy stood.  He reached down and grasp that sailboat to his chest and you could hear his sigh across the water.

I would say there are times in life when we truly feel God is throwing rocks at us.  Our boats are literally rocking and we are totally unstable. NOTHING seems to go right.  God is throwing those rocks at us to bring us back home to Him. The longer we deny Him, the more rocks hit the waters around us... the ripples are slowly going to bring us back to Him.

It is up to you...are you floating freely and allowing Him to work in your life or are you struggling and fighting Him?

The Promise

Yesterday when I was researching some things I came across a very interesting story/comparison on a website.  First, I think you know that God has a tendency in all the written records in the Bible to take a shining to sinners and bring them right around to Him. Over and over again the bible is filled with stories like this. God has the ability to bring us all to our knees.

Have you ever heard of a berkutchi?  I had not...not ever.  A berkutchi is an bird trainer.  In Asia there are men that train eagles for hunting.  First they must capture a young eagle to tame it and train it.  Eagles have a life span of 40 years of more, so if the bird trainer can catch a very young eagle, he will have the use of him as a hunter for a long time.  First the berkutchi must set a trap and bait a young eagle into it.  When he captures the eagle, he places a hood over the eagles head and puts it on a perch in a cage.  The berkutchi keeps the cage moving and swinging so the bird cannot rest or sleep. During this time the bird is not feed.  The berkutchi sings and talks to the bird... chanting to it for hours.  Slowly he is able to put his hands in the cage and softly stroke the bird.  Over the first days the young eagle become totally dependent on the berkutchi and must rely on him for food.  The berkutchi watches for the right time when he feels the relationship between him and bird is strong and the bird will be loyal. Then he knows they can begin training for the hunt.

This seems extreme, but it is truly no different than how God works in our lives. He too must break our independent spirit so we can be close to Him.   Our spirit gets in the way all to often.   God uses broken people, broken soil, broken grain etc... He takes the worse of everything and from it comes the positive.

If you are 'broken' right now, it is not because He has forgotten you... He is right there with you. It is through Him you will gain strength and live again. He is every faithful to His promises.

Oh Say Can You See?

Yes I can see. I can already see things I want to add and relocate on this painting, so I know it will be in the studio for finishing up next week.

We have arrived at Easter weekend and Lent as come to an end.  Thursday we marked the remembrance of Jesus with his walk to the hill top carrying a heavy cross, to which they nailed him in the worst punishment of crucifixion. Can you close your eyes and for just a split second image the depth of pain and suffering Jesus endured for us?

Terry was speaking yesterday of what happened to those that betrayed Jesus.   Judas Iscariot carried a money bag that belonged to the disciples.  The priests bribed him with thirty pieces of silver if he would identify Jesus, and he do so by kissing him. Jesus was then arrested.  Judas hung himself. He was so ashamed he had betrayed Jesus, he 'threw' the money back to the priests...he could not accept it.  He knew he had sinned and he could not live with it.

Then there was Peter who by accounts and stories told, denied knowing Jesus. He had followed him when the mob took him to the high priest but hid his identity. Upon researching I came upon something really interesting... If you want to read or see another slant on the Peter denial story... click here.  I just read this out loud to Terry to share it.

God truly works in many ways bringing us to our knees. In my research I found something special to share tomorrow morning.

Contemporary Horse Painting FULL MOON by Texas Equine Artist Laurie Pace

 Full Moon

This deviates from all the reds I have been painting.  Purple is my favorite color so I decided to use it in this elegant night horse painting.  I used both a palette knife and a wide brush working on this one. It may or may not be done... I will only post it again if I do make major changes.  She is really pretty in person.

Soothing and quiet...SHHH  you can here her hooves in the water breaking the silence of the moon.

You Can Get Glad Just like you Got Mad or Sad.

Quoting my awesomely wise father-in-law, Ben, who we lost last September... I have to jump in on this one this morning.  Change is inevitable. Change is constant. Change is not always what we want. Change occurs every single second of our life.

Change is not sad, nor is change happy.  Change is only Change.

Do you meet the changes and challenges in your life with a positive attitude? It is strictly your attitude that determines how change affects you.  If you resist it you are certain to be overwhelmed. Some things may hit you as positive and good, and others as negative and daunting.

Begin today with a positive attitude. No matter what changes today, prepare to meet it head on with this new positive attitude. An open mind will allow more blessings into your life. God has blessings and lessons 'attached' to every change in your life.

Loosing Ben last fall was expected and unexpected. Relief was there that he no longer struggled to breathe. Relief was there that his pain was over and it did not drag out over a year of battling for breath.

The hole in our life is HUGE.  We fill it with memories and lessons he shared throughout Terry's lifetime and our marriage. His bible is used in our home and we have files and files of his writings and jokes he shared in his Sunday School room when he taught.  He was the best example of meeting life with a positive attitude and sharing a smile with every single person he met.  (He also threw in some stories along the way!)

Layers of oil cover the original acrylic base. This may be done and it may not be. It is hanging in the drying room and I will address it next week... but this is the progress on this abstract horse painting...the White Stallion.

The passion of red played into this horse painting and it is very strong in its presence. This painting is for my show in Denver this summer at Mirada Fine Art.

Sharing Prosperity

When you read the word prosperity what comes to mind? Money?  Not in our household.  Prosperity refers to the abundance God grants us minute by minute, day by day. Sharing our love with others and exchanging kindnesses  is pure prosperity.

I love smiling at strangers.  Sometimes it is a game to force them to see you and look you in the eyes as you smile a broad grin and say GOOD MORNING. When someone has sick family members it is kind to take food to them. This is sharing your prosperity. When your neighbor needs to borrow a cup of sugar, you give her two cups.  You life will be blessed in return for all that you do give so graciously because you have not expected anything in return.

Abundance is not measured by money or possessions, but by moment to moment gifts and blessings from the Father.  Share what you can of what you have with others.  When you feel you have given it all away, emotionally, physically and tangibly, give some more.  Bless the lives of others. That is sharing prosperity.

Spirituality Today

Yesterday I wrote about personal spirituality.  I am going to continue on this one more day.  The word Spirit comes from the Latin word SPIRITUS meaning breath. When you think of 'spirit' is is not of flesh or material body...but of a mental, intellectual or emotional power.  Often people exchange the word spirit and soul as they both are in contrast to the physical body.

My visualization of spirituality is the breath of God that has given me life.  Concentrate as you breath in slowly and let the air out slowly. God is filling you with His breath of life. You are filled with the Spirit.  The power of the breath is the power of His Spirit.

This opens the way for you to be a spiritual being and a channel for His work. Prayer is the path that opens up the understanding of God's light and love. Through prayer/conversation with Him your faith deepens as well as your ability to share this Spirit with others.

As a spiritual being you are aligning your thoughts and and feelings with God and you become open to share with others this awareness of the Spirit.  This is essential when I paint and create.  I literally cannot have a complete painting without His Spirit being woven into the brushstrokes. The more I paint, the more grateful I am of His ever constant presence in my creativity.  He inspires, He motivates, He blesses, He gives, He loves and He breathes into my life and work His Spirit and grace.

My prayer for you my friend is to find this same comfort and direction in your life. Breathe....

Personal Spirituality?

My husband often tells me I live in my world with my rose colored glasses.  I do not like to watch the news. I do not like horror shows, murder mysteries, or noisy gun movies.  I do not like violence.   I live in MY WORLD.  Yes and you live in your world.

In my world there is beauty, kindness, sharing, sunshine, rain (when needed) and every person is giving and caring for each other.  That is my perfect world. Some might call it Neverland.

It does not exist.  All of us live through horrendous happenings, ugly moments, illness, arguments, failures and we seem to remember those better than our fabulous moments of sheer joy and laughter.  It would be slightly delusional to think we could wipe away the ugliness that seems to drag us down.  That shadow of doubt that creeps into our daily lives dimming the light and the joy we have at that moment.

Our world is basically a broken world. We are broken people, far from perfect. A dear friend wrote me about the need to not exist every day, but to live with joy again in her life.  How do you get there?  Neverland seems a galaxy away...but is it really?

You have to take joy and embrace it.  You have to look into the mirror and see you as you are, broken and tired... and love that broken person again.  God loves you so much. He has so much for you.  He has promised you the delights of your heart.  You can't get there if you do not believe in Him.  Every day begin again with joy. Every day count your blessings...all the GOOD wonderful things you can find surrounding you.  Roses blooming in your neighbors yard, the warmth of the sun, the awesome feeling of a warm shower as you wake up in the morning, the first cup of coffee or hot tea.  If you are not feeling joy, you have allowed your senses to die. You cannot feel anymore, so you must learn to feel again.  Focus on visual one day. The next day focus on touch. The day after focus on taste.

Learn how to be joyful day by day and it will slowly return.  My spirituality is fed by the beauty that God brings into each moment.  I thank my Mother for instilling this in our home and our lives. My connectivity to God is with every breath I take and every move I make.  Each of us has the ability to have a personal spirituality.  Some chose not to tie into a higher power, some chose the power of the universe.  I choose God.

The Daily Journey  aka Daily Layers

Both in painting and in life, it seems to evolve in layers. If you think about your life it is filled with events that seem to layer on top of other events.  This is what affects your personality and your outlook on life.  How you 'survive' these layers, 'celebrate' these layers or 'merge' these layers is up to you.

Ben Pace always use to say, 'You can get glad just like you got mad.' We are all pretty quick to anger...but he wanted people to realize you can be quick to smile.  I don't think we do that enough. Our lives are lead in such a serious way.  Bills piling upon bills, taxes, rising fuel costs, nuclear plants failing, health issues, and the list goes on.  How are you glad about any of that?

Yesterday was not the best day.  One of my best paintings that I just finished SOMEHOW got a 3 inch rip in it.  Terry hurt his back trying to move the new washing machine into the house.  The www.cfaintl.com website was not loading right after three days of working on it and I was up very very late working and reloading. My computer mysteriously lost a huge mail file that I needed HTML code from one of the emails to fix the CFAINTL site.   SOMEHOW... I was calm.  I kept thinking as I held up the canvas with one of the new realistic paintings I just finished...20 x 30, thinking of the hours I had painting invested in it... and realizing it was probably ruined... I should have cried.  I wanted to cry.  I did not cry.  When we went to bed last night I rolled over and took Terry's hand and said..."It was one of those days wasn't it? We survived an all are alive and well... Praise to God. God is good, all the time, God is good."

Thinking to past times, I probably would have sobbed over the painting and I am definitely not happy about his back....and the www.contemporaryfineartinternational.com site is back up and working due to God's greatness... so I had to rejoice in the day as it closed and this morning I give thanks for this great new day and the moments I have to create more new layers in my life.

Begin Again

Every day we have the opportunity to begin again.  Begin anew. We cannot change what happened yesterday or last week.  We can change today and how we face it and how we react to the events of the day.

Begin again on this beautiful Sunday morning.

We celebrate Palm Sunday and the journey of Jesus into Jerusalem.  Many were joyous with the thoughts of the moment and the excitement.  Jesus knew in his heart what was ahead.  In life, we do not.  We must trust our Father that He will care for us and see us through whatever journey is there for us today and tomorrow.

Celebrate this day; begin again with God in your heart.

Early Adventure

We are off to Dallas early this morning to have brunch with my family.  Then in the afternoon is a wedding shower for Morgan and Kelly... a busy day so this is a short blog.

I have been painting most of the week finishing up pieces for Denver. I am bringing several into Dallas today for the Dutch Art Gallery to frame for me for the show in July.

May your weekend be blessed... find an adventure.

God is good... all the time, God is good.
