It was a long day yesterday at the computer but I have finished outlining and preparing the written areas of my first workshop for 2011.  Now to decide where to have it.  There are beautiful places to stay here in Mt Vernon and I can teach it at our Franklin County Arts Alliance building, or I can have it with Dena Wenmohs at her ranch in Cypress Mill, TX , or begrudgingly I could have it in Dallas. Not too much for decompressing in that congested place!   Have also considered a special place here in Mt Vernon called Selah Ranch amd a second location called The Pearly Gates.  Talk about the perfect place for a retreat and a workshop, and that is Selah Ranch, but it is pricey. The Pearly Gates is more like church camp and has cabins (we would not use the Bunkhouse).  I would love Selah  first and then The Pearly Gates and hopefully by next year I will have a place here on the lake for workshops and can keep maybe 4-6 artists at the house for a full immersion workshop.  Need some input from those of you interested.  If you are coming from far away and flying in you would have to rent a car no matter where I have it.  If you are driving you can just about get to me in any of these places.  So send me feedback as I plan to have this in the schedule quickly.  Email me.

Okay I have the funny for today.  It is a BEN-ISM from Terry's big collection of stuff from his Dad.

A minister was giving a sermon at church and he was doing an experiment using worms. He put a worm in a bottle of alcohol; a worm in a jar filled with cigarette smoke; a work in a pot of melted chocolate (luke warm of course) and a worm in some fresh soil.  He continued on his sermon and returned to the worm experiment about twenty minutes later and sure enough the worm in the wine bottle had died; the worm in the smoke jar had died; the worm in the chocolate had died but the worm in the fresh dirt had survived happily and was thriving.  He leaned over the pulpit and looked seriously out at the congregation and asked them if they knew what that meant.... Silence was thick as you could see everyone fidgeting.  A small voice from the back of the church pipped up, "It means if you use the first three things, wine, smoking and chocolate you won't have worms."

Ben was always a joy to us and everyone he knew. This first Christmas without him has been difficult. If you have lost someone special this year,  you know where our hearts are.  We are ready to close out 2010 and both Terry and I are hand in hand for the journey in 2011.  May the new year be prosperous to you all.  (Still might be wise to cut back on wine, smoking and chocolate... maybe enough to keep the worms away, but not enough to control your life.)  Our household is smoke free and wine is only on occasion.  Chocolate on the other hand, that is a treat that we save for special occasions or for anxiety times.  We celebrate the life we are building in Franklin County and give thanks to God for the bounty surrounding our lives and for our family and friends.

Changes in the New Year... and Terry unloaded my new tool box.  He wanted me to buy it from Sears but I didn't want to wait as long as it would have taken. I found this a Lowe's and I love it.  I was able to retire my wire basket holder from the container store and my big four drawer plastic holder from Target.  EVERYTHING fit in here.

We had thick Plexi-glass cut to fit the top. I have part of it long and part of it square. I use the smaller piece to mix my paints on and it is washable.  The box also has electrical outlets so I have set it up with my ipod charger and player on it... and actually painted yesterday.  Just a start in preparation for the big painting.  I have not painted in a week and I have to get back into the swing of the palette knife before I begin the big piece.

I had two interesting emails yesterday, one from a gallery in Arizona asking to exhibit my work and another inquiry from a gallery in Puerto Rico. Two in one day is unusual but I believe I can get some things together for both of them... and a trip to both is in order.

When you were young did you labor over those New Years Resolutions?  I remember doing them all the way through my twenties.  Then in my forties I did the cards, which is what Terry and I will do together this year, listing our needs and wants for the new year... and then believing and trusting for it to happen.

Wikipedia lists the top goals of most Americans to be the following:
  1. Improve Health; lose weight, exercise more, eat better, drink less and quit smoking.
  2. Improve Finances; get out of debt, save money.
  3. Improve Career; get a better job.
  4. Improve Education; improve grades, get a better education, learn something new.
  5. Improve Self; become more organized, reduce stress, be less grumpy, manage time be more independent.
  6. Take  a trip
  7. Volunteer to help others.
Success rate shows 52% of those of us that do resolutions to be totally confident that we will be successful.  Only 12% will actually do it. Men actually did better than women!

Lisa Blackwell with ABC News, talks about the beginning of a new year means a fresh start for all of us to start again with resolutions in place. This especially affects those without jobs. Many Americans are resolved to be more grateful for what they do have.

Journal this year if you can.  Write down those needs and wants and record your journey as you grow in 2011 to be the best person you can be.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” - John 14:1-3

I know I wrote about the donut hole not too long ago.  That is where you focus on what is not there instead of what is there.  When we focus on what we lack we become very hollow inside and we feel defeated and at a complete loss.  The importance is in acknowledging the 'donut' or the real things in your life that are there now.   We are all blessed to live our lives in abundance.  Our main problem is focusing on the missing things or our perceived holes in our lives.

Take a deep breath today and remind yourself you are full of the spirit.  You are blessed with His love and then let Him know how grateful you are for the things you do have right now.  You have exactly what you are suppose to have...enjoy it. Don't waste your thoughts on what you believe you are missing because you don't need it or you would have it.

On the positive donut side, I have a new tool box.  I promise to take pictures. We bought it late yesterday but could not unload it in the rain. Hopefully today we will do it. It replaces my wire basket thing and it is strong and rolls where ever I need it.  So today I will be moving it into the studio and beginning sketches on the 5 ft by 5 ft painting for my Arizona collector.  Also will try to finish up my plans for my upcoming workshop.  I think I will have one here in Mt Vernon and one at Dena Wenmoh's Ranch at the Bunkhouse.   Dallas is still not ruled out either. Eventually there will be two or three guest rooms right here at the lake in our home and you will come here to work in my studio with me.    Again if you have not emailed me to let me know you want the schedule, do so now. Email me that you are interested in receiving the workshop information.  Email here

OH yes, stop by the CFAI site and see the final work posted for the December Art Challenge. The winners will be up by January 1st.

We are home!!! We even slept in our own bed last night. MUCH to do today to get caught up.  Much to do before the 31st of December.  ALL of it in His hands and truly not to overtake my life.

Do you tend to let things overtake your life?  It think is is sometimes an obsessive behavior that flares up occasionally.   All of it is in that controlling category. Slow down and quite moving so fast. Make the best of this day and find the happiness welling up inside of you.  Give yourself the break and do not do so much.

Maintain the Spirit of Christ to be an inspiration to you and give to yourself the peace you deserve. This inner attitude of a peaceful perspective will allow you to not only care for yourself but pass this peace onto others around you.  Being One with the Father allows you to pass on His light to others. Keep the peace for you and for those you love.

Heading home early this morning. It has been so much fun being with Stacey and her family. Tink is totally attached to her BAMPA (Terry). She gets up in the morning looking for him... "Bampa where are you?"

I posted the POT OF COLOR because it ever reminds me of the world filled with God's color.  Let some of this magnificent color spill into your life this next year.  Open your heart to receive the light and energy of His Power.

Next post will be from home sweet home. I will be starting a 5 ft by 5 ft horse composition for a collector in Arizona...

Christmas was a day and a half yesterday.  I came close to the edge of forgetting it was even Christmas.  Throw in only 4 hours of sleep after staying up late to build toys, the baby getting up for Santa just after 5 am, a chaos of toys, more toys, and more toys and Tunes of Woody singing HOME ON THE RANGE and Buzz Lightyear TO INFINITY and BEYOND, the Aliens from the Claws  WOOOOAH, a Green dinosaur named Rex that says Raarr WERE YOU SCARED, Mr and Mrs Potato Head, a HUGE group of green army men marching to AH AH AH, a miniature trampoline, Lincoln Logs, Weebles, a Bitty Baby, cars with a garage, dress up clothes, games, purses, clothes and then blend in one trip to the ER, a trek to south Arlington to gather with our entire family, eating way too much food and driving back home to collapse.... and finally snuggling up with Terry to share our bible study reading the Christmas story.  Then we both let out a deep breath and knew where we were. It was Christmas and the day was not done... the day will stretch into the year ahead and it is up to the two of us to do our best to keep the joy of Christmas in every day. Make living in Christ a way of living each day, not just on Christmas.

May the light fill your life in 2011.

Christmas Joy 2010 From Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Christmas Joy on Christmas Eve

We spent Christmas Eve at my mother's house. My granddaughter, aka "Tinkerbelle" aka the "Tink" had on her Party Dress. We went from Mom's to my brother Kirk's for his annual Christmas Eve party. He and wife Leslie absolutely have the BEST FOOD IN DALLAS on Christmas Eve at their house.  Tink was the hit of the party.

More for later. I am up early before she is up to see her Santa this morning. You will have to wait for Santa pictures.

May Peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through!  ~Author Unknown

God Bless you all and Merry Christmas.

Fundamental Screw Up.  I had not heard that one before my husband muttered it earlier today.  He was calling himself that, not me... and then another artist referred to herself as an idiot when it came to some computer things.  What do you call yourself?

Sometimes I think I am a screw up. Sometimes I think I am undeserving.  I could go on but will stop there.  We are all susceptible to thoughts like this. We are human. We are able to go negative pretty quick on ourselves.  Our feelings get hurt and we get frustrated. We allow this to happen. We bring it on ourselves and we use it to validate our feelings at that time.

It is simply not true.  Keep yourself focused on the beauty God has placed in your from your moment of conception. We all have bad days...I think even God must have them too, but He has the ability to look at the long term and we are limited to short term vision.  Be good to yourself.  You are deserving and you are His child.

I want to share a Christmas Story of 'Deserving.'  I specifically asked Judy if I could put it on my blog. I will hyperlink to her blog in the title. She graciously said yes. It is a perfect example of being worthy and asking God truly for what you need.

In the Spirit of the Season

"That Old Sweet Story"
I have a story to tell you. This is a true story that has just happened to me. About a month and a half ago, I was sitting in church and the minister began telling this story about when he and his wife moved to the Houston area. They had found a house they wanted to purchase that was within their budget. But they realized they needed a couple of new appliances and they didn't have anything left in the budget for those. So they sat down as a family with their two daughters. One of the little girls said "Dad, why don't you just ask God for the money we need?" So they did, right then and there. The very next next, they received an anonymous sum in the mail for the exact amount they had asked for. Well, I was sitting there listening to this story and I have asked for things myself including money and so I was very cynical about this. I felt bad about asking God for money even if I did need it.... But mostly I was cynical. I actually thought to myself, yea, right, this has never happened to me.
This has been a really tough year for me and I won't go into the gory details, but it has been one of the hardest of my life really. In fact, the last few years haven't been a picnic. Anyway..I am ashamed to say that this is what I was feeling in my heart. I really needed a certain sum too because of the fact that the art market is down and I was behind on some things that really needed to be paid. So I decided, well what would it hurt to ask...so I did.
The very next day I received an email from a woman who had purchased a painting from me through one of my galleries several years ago for her daughter. She named the painting and I remembered it right away. It was a painting of toys called "Toy Thyme". In the email, she told me she had found me on the net and that she was very interested in purchasing some of my work. We corresponded back and forth a few times and I sent her more images of work that I didn't have on my site. Long story short, she ended up purchasing 13 paintings from me. I shipped the work last week. I was able to pay off in it's entirety a credit card bill that has been looming over my head. I'll never doubt again that He answers prayer. I don't always have my prayers answered and I am not sure why this one in particular was because like I said, I've asked before. But I've been so down lately...perhaps this is why? Perhaps God knows I really really needed to hear from Him in a big way...I don't know why, But it was and I just hope that this encourages someone out there that if you really are in need....Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7) God answers prayer. God Bless and Merry Christmas." Judy Crowe ( a fellow Artist of Texas and a sister in Christ)

Close up of "Light Horse" representing Day.

Close up of the "Dark Horse" representing Night.

I had to finish it off with the red moon.  It has been 372 years since the last lunar eclipse with a beautiful red moon. "A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth aligns between a full moon and the sun, blocking any sunlight from reflecting off the moon's surface."

One of the articles I read was how someone commented that God gifted us with a beautiful early Christmas present.  I could not agree more.

That inspired me to tuck the red moon into the background of this painting.  Artists always tell the story; Artists alway record history.  I wanted to make sure I recorded a bit of red moon history in this painting.  I had started this winter solstice painting last week and I finished it yesterday on the actual day.  I didn't even realize as I was painting it that I had leaned toward light and dark naturally in the composition of a light horse and  a dark horse. I had been after subtle colors with slight accents of turquoise and russet browns with a pinch of Indian yellow. The addition of the red moon came after rising up early to catch a glimpse of it.   So the painting has much meaning woven into the shortest day of the year.  Light will begin to fill our lives for longer days as we head into January.  With light is always hope; with light is love and warmth and feelings of safety.  May this painting be an inspiration to turn to the light.

May your holidays be filled with His light as we anticipate the celebration of the Christ Child's birth.

This is my new table top easel to keep by the fireplace.  I did these on Sunday evening.  Yesterday was a warmer day in the sixties and I was busy cleaning out the studio and made quite a dent. We also took books into the library to donate them.

I will be experimenting on some smaller paintings as we will be traveling again in the spring and summer and I want to take acrylics and this easel with me to use as we go.  Open your minds right now and think of things to allow into your life.  Take a risk for the positive even if it seems unreachable or unfamiliar.

It is time this year to take out some index cards, at least ten of them and on five of them write down one thing on each card that you NEED.  Then write on the other five cards one thing on each of things you WANT.  Study them and tuck them into your night stand. Reread them through the year...believe in what you wrote and what you are deserving of and God will provide it.   I did this back in 1999 and absolutely everything I wrote down ( I did 10 of each) came through by 2004. ALL OF THEM..the needs and wants were all met in HIS time.  It is time for Terry and I to do this again with our lives changing. WANTS and NEEDS....don't be afraid, just put it in writing and believe in Him.

Monday Monday...it is that day. I am determined to finish wrapping the last four gifts, deliver boxes of books to the town library as donations and finish getting my studio cleaned up today.  I am in search of a new tool box to hold my stuff... a large one on wheels. My wire one on wheels is about dead. I remember when I bought it back in 2003 and was SOO worried because it cost $350 for it at the Container Store. Little did I know it would be worked so hard over the past six years and the little wheels won't stay on it and it leans like a tower bending.  It groans when I pull open the drawers.

Yes, time for a few adjustments here and there and what better time than to be ready for the new year. Shed all of the STUFF that you do not need in 2010. Go through those closets. Throw out the things you have not worn in two years.  Clean out your bathroom cabinets too. We did. Also bought new rugs for the hall bath and it looks pretty nice in there now.  I found out I am bad about NOT throwing away old towels. Terry volunteered to take most to the garage so I am smiling again.

Time to get down to the basics and keep life simple again.

Well we almost have the Christmas letter ready to email out. Terry has been on the phone collecting missing emails.  I simply did not get to make cards this year and this is what we are doing. The positive thing is there are lots of pictures going out in the letter to friends and family.

Beautiful weather found us delivering the remaining of our bread basket gifts to our friends out in East Texas.  It is fun to go visiting and see all the homes decorated for Christmas.  My favorite was Jacque's old registered prairie farm house. WOW... I need to take the camera with me next time. Tucked in the woods off a country road, it is a living piece of history.

Last night we watched Miracle on 34th Street. Have you seen it this year?  It gets better every time I watch it.  Natalie Wood is an excellent child actress.  Some of the lines you catch and wonder why you never heard them before...and then you laugh like a child enjoying the movie even more.  Truth be told, life can be like that if we could let go of things that tie us to the negative side...and all those loose squirrels running around in our heads.  Simple thoughts and simple abundance seem to be the key.

May this week before Christmas be blessed with quiet moments of reflections strengthening you for 2011. May your shine to be a light to others seeking their way.

We are back in Mt Vernon and hopefully I can finish up this painting.  I think every thing was mailed off for Christmas.  I have three books here to mail out and that is the last of the shipping.  Now Terry and I are going to relax over the next few days before we head back to Ft Worth/Dallas.

It was hard leaving the baby yesterday. She cried when we left... she thought she should be with us.  THAT was hard. She is a love.  Watch for more pictures....I took some before we left yesterday of her in her pajamas... it was pj day at school yesterday.

When I think of this painting and the slow build up on layers of buttery Holbein Oils... I think of our lives and how experiences build up for us to develop character, just as this painting builds up character with it's layers.  We shape ourselves every day with what we say and do.  Be watchful and build carefully.  God is there beside you all the way.

Simple abundance...

It was a busy busy day yesterday.  Up at four thirty...and to bed by ten last night.  Thinking we will head home in a few hours. Have to go by Asel Art and pick up some supplies and pick up a 5 ft by 5 ft canvas for a new commission piece for a collector in Arizona.  I hope I get to meet her. May have to deliver the painting to meet her and her horse.
Meanwhile, Terry and I did make it to ADAMS furniture in Justin Texas. The best place to buy furniture in this area.  Hometown like for sure.  We picked out a queen size mattress and it will be made and delivered to Stacey's next week so we will have a good bed to sleep on for the holidays.
We had lunch at Chicken Express and TINK loved it.  After that home for a nap (three hours) back to the store where we bought candies, cookies and cupcake makings for her class party, which is today. Stacey is trying to convince us to go to the party but I think  we will skip the germ fest.  We had dinner together eating the soup I had made the night before. Then TP and I made the cupcakes and iced them.
We were good, we didn't eat any.  BUT we failed at dinner with TINK. She would not eat any chicken, carrots, green beans or sweet potatoes.  We even tried to bribe her with M& M's but that did not work. She is so much like her mother...very stubborn and tries to be totally in control.  Instead she had yogurt with apples and lunch meat. Go figure. My kids ate what we ate from the table when we ate. This is a different generation.
The painting I had up yesterday is going to Ohio and will ship out today. You may stay tune on my blog as I still have several freebies that will be given away.  I am cleaning out the studio and preparing to prepare for the new year.
Preparation in your heart and in your life is a positive thing.  Pray on this and begin making plans today.

We are at Stacey's and Vicki is at our house. I think she is bathing Paddy today.  That ought to be interesting....

My blog is short and late as we are babysitting the granddaughter while Stacey has some tests being run at the hospital. She had called late yesterday and we drove in to help out.  We decided after zero sleep last night we are heading out to find a bed to sleep in here.  Didn't have much of that last night.
Baby was up at 4:30 this morning and that was after the cat came in at 1:30 and woke us up to the point of Terry jumping out of bed and hitting all the lights on trying to strangle the cat.

Last night when we got here TINK helped me snap beans for homemade chicken veggie soup we are having today. We got it going last night and will cook it today. I wanted something hot and good when they get back from the hospital tonight.

Not sure if I will blog tomorrow or not...but will try. I will ship this painting out on Monday to the first person that emails that wants it.  It would make a lovely gift for someone special.  Tell me who you will be giving it to!

Simple abundance to you and yours...

I reposted this painting because I just sold a print of it on Fine Art America. You can visit my work there by clicking the link above that says Giclees.

Financial worries are at the front of  my blog today.  Those are the hardest things to let go of and not worry about.  Don't you agree?  Yes, you have to pay your bills. Yes, you have to be responsible for your actions and your in-actions, but you have a choice on what to spend time on in your mind.  What truly matters in your life right now?

My thoughts are just beginning to wrap around the idea that maybe if I acknowledge the prosperity in my life right now, I can be assured of His simple abundance. I choose to tell myself right now that any resources I do need will be provided at the right time.  This positive thinking allows me to be ready to accept in my heart and life the goodness God has prepared for me. I can live this day and enjoy it and not worry.

This time of year it is so easy to go out and spend money; often you  feel like you have to do it. You must have gifts to give and support our floundering economy by spending or charging for gifts.  Somehow the economy is struggling right along despite motions from our government to send us into more debt for years to come. We do not need to set ourselves in deeper debt.   In some ways I worry about America as we have always had that "we deserve it" attitude and the "Gotta have it now" attitude.

Focus in your life on what is important right now today...the people or the things?  The memories of times together or the gifts forgotten under the tree or in the back of the closet?  Your treasures are right there.  You have everything you need for this day and you will have what you need for tomorrow when tomorrow comes. Live free from worry and trust in Him. This way you are free to live abundantly with what you have.

We were surprised with a Christmas Card from someone dear to us that lives far away.  The image of the kids and the parents smiling for the traditional card made my heart warm and brought a huge smile from Terry when I shared the picture.  I pulled out the 'newsletter' included and began reading about the past year for the two young ones, happily sharing the details with Terry as I read. A first broken bone, speech therapy, basketball, baseball, Playhouse Disney etc.   There was a point my voice broke and I stopped reading.  The tears were falling and the world seemed to turn upside-down.

The youngest son, only age 3, was diagnosed in October with a rare form of kidney cancer, Wilms Tumor.  Terry and I prayed and talked and prayed even more.  I have been in contact with the family through email and joined their journey on the CARING BRIDGE site.  We spent time this morning reading all of the posts and sentiments.

Our prayers support this family. The little ones are always God's dearest treasure. They are still tied closely to heaven and innocent from many things in this world.  I know this is part of God's plan for this little life.  God knows exactly what is happening and what lies ahead.  The journey stretches out before all of them with endless challenges. Please keep the "G" family at the top of your prayer list. Mom says we are planning on a huge 4th birthday celebration next summer.

Count your blessings...

I am not painting yet...but I am sketching left handed.  I sketched out the beginnings of a painting to start yesterday. It is cold outside and it will be cold in my back porch studio. It has windows but not heated and cooled with out help. Terry has several good heaters out there for me to work, but I have to turn them on and start up the heat.

I had decided as I sketched today that the painting would be based on the upcoming Winter Solstice. The new painting is going to pull colors from an earthier palette and I am totally moved by the season and the colors outside my window on the pond. ( I have this feeling that soon you will see other artists painting horses and entitling their pieces "Winter Solstice" but know now, I determined this title as I sketched today while gazing outside at the colors in the sky and landscape.  By the upcoming Solstice this piece should be complete.

Mirada Gallery sold one of my large pieces last week, Desert Sun.   Here is the piece that sold this past week.  I was so excited to learn more about the new owner as I did a collector book for her of this painting. She is a gifted poet and I included some of her poetry in her book on the painting. This is the third painting this year they have sold of my work at Mirada. It stayed here in the states. The first one lives in Canada and the second one flew to Australia.  I cannot thank Gallery Manager Steve enough for his constant vigilance and work with me for joint marketing and providing what collectors want for their investment.  It helps with the wonderful recognition and representation of American Art Collector and Western Art Collector.   With the new agreement with Contemporary Fine Art International, there will be new things with Southwest Art.

This is the third Sunday in Advent.  It is still early and I am not sure if we are churching this morning or not. I have been ill most of the week and tentatively told Terry I thought it better if we did not.  Meanwhile Terry and will light our advent candles here together and maybe sing a song or two after we study and read together in the scriptures.  He asked me this question yesterday...and Dan if you are reading this... email me your first thought without looking.  Where is the connection for Jesus to be descended from the lineage of David?

I asked Terry if it was a trick question.  He said no, because Jesus was not the blood of Joseph, only of Mary, so was it through Mary? Wikipedia answered with only information reflecting generalities.   Jesus was conceived through the Holy Spirit and was born of Mary. He had her blood and DNA...not Joseph's.  Bible Encyclopedia gave a better answer for me.

"Little is known of her personal history. Her genealogy is given in Luke 3 (see below). She was of the tribe of Judah and the lineage of David (Psalm 132:11; Luke 1:32). She was connected by marriage with Elisabeth, who was of the lineage of Aaron (Luke 1:36)."  Bible Encyclopedia

Well it gave for good discussions yesterday as we were only allowed to use what we remembered with out opening a bible. Personally I like the way Bible Encyclopedia answered it!

For my TINK... RING THOSE JINGLE BELLS....Oma and Bampa are listening.

Blessings my good friends, may the peace and joy of the season fill your hearts and lives with the light to carry to others still living in darkness.

"The gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures  regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David,  and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake. And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ." Romans 1:2-6

Slow to recover this week.. still sort of weakly moving and a headache began yesterday, but I have high hopes of a better weekend as I heal.   I also hurt my wrist last week and probably this time off from painting was needed.

Terry has been working on brakes on the truck and hopes to finish today before the cold weather hits. It will be in the low twenties by tomorrow night.  Me, I hope to finish cleaning up the studio and the rest of the house. I did half of it yesterday....slowly slowly.

Contemporary Fine Art International has been growing steadily.  We have been visiting on the vision for the future and setting up our goals accordingly.  We are still setting up the United States individual state blogs for painters, sculptors, glass artists, etc, so if you are a painter and reading this blog, contact Mary Jo or me if you want to be apply to CFAI and join us on our journey. There is much ahead.

Conni Togel has joined us and is working on our international blogs. The first ready is www.artistsofgermany.blogspot.com.   She is a welcome help on our international scene.  Watch us grow!

I hope you are still in deep preparation for Christmas.  I was derailed this week but know pray-fully all is in His hands.

Blessings of Abundance...

If I had a thought I certainly forgot it.  I have been down with a viral infection, most likely picked up at church.  Terry drove me into  Dallas to see our family physician Dr Steve. (he will have a new book out soon!)  I have never had chills and sweats at the same time and no fever. It was pretty harsh. Add in no sleep for three nights and no appetite and you know where I have been.

Mary Jo Zorad had just sent me this wonderful email: (Mother you probably already have this one written down.)

"Remember, happiness comes by living each moment, among all the struggles and problems of life, with an attitude of unshakable inmost happiness, and not by helplessly seeking a happiness that is always just out of sight around a corner. Happiness depends chiefly upon the inner conditions created by one's own mind."
Mary Jo did not write this, but she shared it with me.  She is a dear friend and fellow artist. Absolutely one of the finest Life Coaches one could want as well.  She is Dr Mary Jo Zorad.
Back to my story...so there I was laying in bed hot, cold, hungry, and not hungry, tossing and turning and I remembered this message. The struggles we face including illness at times and our attitude is what shapes our outcome... so I survived the long dark nights with blessing counting and celebrating what did not hurt and what was NOT wrong.  MJ, it worked.  I was not unhappy or depressed, I was only sick, but by focusing on positive things I made it through two sleepless nights and last night I slept for 8 hours.

Terry says I am on the mend and I am.  I can walk from the bedroom to the kitchen with out toppling over.  I am at the lowest weight I have been at since 2007 and my appetite is still not too strong. I think my stomach shrunk. I was never nauseated, I just did not want to eat. Nothing sounded good.  Poor hubby as we drove back in the dark from Dallas I had been craving oranges and hamburgers. If you know me, you know I don't eat much red meat at all...but blessing to my dear husband who stopped at Braums in Sulpher Springs and bought me both. I only ate 1/3 of my burger and fed the rest to Paddy when we got home.  Terry tucked me into bed (are you ready for this?) only after he took my clean PJ's and threw them in the dryer to get them warm before I put them on, and had my heating pad already heating up the bed.  That was over the top for me.  Two Tylenol Arthritis and I was asleep as soon as we watched "A Summer Place".     Tonight we will watch 'A Lion in Winter'.    One of Terry's very favorite movies.

This time of year leaves us open for exposure to many virus. Please remember to wash your hands constantly with soap when possible. Also, if you have not been well, do not shake hands or share hugs with people.  God gives us knowledge and we show wisdom when we use it.  Don't share those type of things this season...share good health and warm moments for those wonderful memories we make.

Brr Baby it's cold outside.  I was working on this painting and still several layers more to go on adjusting colors, I am working from Iphone pictures.   The hair is throwing me from the soft filtered light... so I had to walk away from it yesterday.

I was so chilled yesterday afternoon  I climbed into bed under the comforter to warm up and fell asleep watching Oprah.  Terry thawed out some speg. sauce from the freezer and surprised me with a hot dinner. I fell asleep early last night, so I am pretty rested as I write.

This morning Rita is dropping off three dozen extra large eggs...I may have to paint eggs today.  We will have coffee ready and something good...Have to think about what I will make.  Am debating on making a cinnamon Apple cake-bread for Christmas baskets for our friends. I may have to do a small batch tomorrow to see if it works. Terry already broke into the pretzels I bought for dipping... will have to make another trip to the store.  OH OH>>> and Terry hung my lights on the gazebo outside... I may have to try and get a picture... it looks like a fairy land outside.  The trees are all shed of leaves and we have a fabulous view of the lake now.

Wishing you the best this day... give thanks as you start the day for all the wonderful gifts that are yours...prepare in your heart with hope for this advent week.

We were in church yesterday and again I believe that Pastor Pete spoke his words directly to Terry's heart and a family situation we are facing.  The reading was Isaiah 11

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—
and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge
by what he sees with his eyes,
or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness
he will judge the needy,
with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike
the earth with the rod of his mouth;  with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea. In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a
banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and
his resting place will be glorious.

Pete had this painting up on the screen by American Artist Edward Hicks.  It tells the story of Isaiah 11.   In the background you can even see on the far left side the colonists making peace with the Indians.

I won't delve into Pete's entire message but the part that caught us squarely in the heart was the fact that the lion and the lamb actually live inside of both of us.  When you feel anger or depression or fear... the lion is rearing up inside of you.  The lamb is God and His peace... and that is where we all desire to be in life, with God in that peaceful state.  Realize of course you cannot have that trusting peace and gentleness of the lamb with out knowing the contrast of the aggressive distrustful lion. Think about it, and search yourself to see the existence of  this contrast within yourself. Then examine how you should react to others when the lion is roaring in your face.  I believe He gives us knowledge and from that comes the wisdom. We must know ourselves and see this in ourselves before we can acknowledge it and grow to a place where we can keep that lion in a calm peaceful place.

This second week in advent have HOPE and place your trust in Him and prepare a space in your heart and your life to let Him come in. No matter what the challenge is from day to day, trust in Him.

Continue to prepare and believe in abundance.

Laurie

“Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” - John 10:7, 9-10

Kings of Leon Guitar Painting, Pop Art, colorful guitar painting, by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

'King Guitars'
30 x 30 inches  Oil on Canvas

Commissioned Christmas Painting SOLD

Contact me to commission a painting. Laurie
© Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2010

The painting I just finished of the guitars was based on the guitars played by the Kings of Leon.  Took some research and then decisions as I painted, but the collector liked the composition of another piece that Morgan and I did together several years ago, so I worked toward that as I painted. Kings of Leon rock the Charts with Gibson and Epiphone.

Here are some of my guitar pieces from 2004-2008
I have played guitar for over 45 years and taught it for 30 years.  I have a 1975 Alverez Classical,  a 2002 Taylor 914 E, and a 2007 Laravee.

2004-2006 I did a series of these in colors and sold about 8 of them at a music store in Dallas.

2007  This is the composition that inspired Kings Of Leon Guitars and it was painted
by my son and I together for a buyer in Oklahoma.

 2007  A collection of Four

2008  Three singles from a grouping of six.
 2008
 2008

 2008 for an album cover.

Another piece done and two more to finish for the holidays...and then I will begin a 5 ft by 5 ft commissioned piece...horses of course for a new collector in Arizona.

Just a quick catch up. We worked in the yard yesterday all day. COLD weather hit last night and we knew we would not be back outside to do much for almost a week. We raked leaves, but did not burn them yet.  Terry clipped hedges and we cleaned up extra trash that seems to blow in from the lake. We hurried through baked chicken and wild brown rice to go to the Christmas Parade in downtown Mt Vernon. It was so much fun to see all the kids and how excited they were with the small local holiday parade.  It is a wonderful community.

Do you remember the writing lesson on what does it feel like to be a blade of grass and you hear the lawn mower coming?? Sue Kemnitz  wrote me back and sent an image of her work... I love it.  I liked what she wrote:

"We are best when in submission to our Lord, letting Him clip away what is unnecessary, or even cumbersome and a drag.  In joy, because we know the final result will be the image of Jesus as He trims , prunes, and then encourages and cheers us on   All in His love and goodness. Enjoy process."
She signs her email.... "ONLY BELIEVE" and how very true is that!

New lesson will post in the next day or so!  I usually say... prepare for abundance... is it yours..but I will close with Sue's ONLY BELIEVE....
