The Painting:  Deep and Rich are the two main adjectives for this piece. I will probably do a similar follow up piece and I loved moving the paint around on the canvas.

The Thought:  Someone once ask me how long it took to complete a particular painting.  My reply was one shared with me by fellow artist Diane Whitehead.... my reply was simply, "It took 57 years."  That is how old I am, and truly that is how long it took to do this particular painting.  Diane was correct as it takes every experience in our lives to get where we are at this second.

So as the year 2009 comes to a close this evening, I look back at a year of so many blessings I cannot count them.  Change alone is a blessing if you look at it that way.  Change is never good nor bad, it is simply change. How we choose to react to change determines the outcome of our lives.  The friends and acquaintances we meet along the way are there for a season or a reason.  Some we are blessed to have in our lives for longer periods, and others God places there only for a season or two.

We are all works in progress. Don't be so hard on yourself and your life.  Let the sunshine in; let God's peace fill your days in 2010. Stop trying so hard, live for this day... today.  Tomorrow will take care of itself and God has it already planned. After all, tomorrow is the first day of 2010 and the first day of the rest of your life.

Stay safe tonight and give thanks for the year 2009.

Laurie
“This is what the LORD says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”- Isaiah 43:16, 18-19

'Three in the Snow' Contemporary Equine Art Horse Daily Oil Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Justus Pace

© Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2009

The Painting: Three in the Snow started out to be Jade on her horse but when I started applying the chocolate colored paint it truly took on its own life and is no longer what it was originally. Those are really the most unique pieces that take on a strong spirit of their own.

The Thought:  Is this what you want to do for the rest of your life?  Is this all there is?

Yesterday was movie marathon day as we had rain, sleet and snow. Prepared for the stay at home day, we had bought New York Strip Steaks from Whole foods. Terry grilled the steaks and I made homemade mashed red potatoes, fresh steamed green beans and salted Ciabatta bread. Terry spent the day on his computer and Crystal and I spent it vegging on the couches watching movies.  We started out with The Lake House, then went to Kate and Leopold, then came The Family Man and we finished up with August Rush.   I rarely watch TV and even more rarely movies, so this was  second view of all of these and I truly enjoyed them.

The thought above was from Family Man.  The 'man' character was a big wall street mover and pusher and an angel gave him a 'Glimpse' of what could have been.  He was in total shock suddenly waking up in New Jersey in a middle class home with a blonde wife and two kids, the youngest in diapers.  It is worth the watch if you didn't see it the first time. A really good Christmas movie.

The main thought is,  are you doing what you want to truly be doing or are you doing what you truly should be doing?  If you could glimpse at your life in a 180 turn, what would it be? Are you living up to your full potential? (and that is NOT meant financial potential, but rather your full gifts God has given you to share with the rest of us?)

When I woke about an hour ago at 4:25, I began my time in prayer knowing as always I fall short of the mark in my own life. I can only refocus and try to do better today and every day forward from here. With the new year coming many of you are preparing that list ...groan, another list.  A list of improvements in you for the new year. Maybe you don't need to improve you, but rather discover the you that is really there. God made you correctly the first time, you don't need to make over His perfection, you probably just need to stop doing it your way and recognize and accept what He put in your life to be used.

Praying for abundance for all,

Laurie

The Painting: From the files again... but a favorite.  I remember the day this one sold and it went to live in Seattle I think.

The Thought: The original saying is don't put all your eggs in the same basket...but I sort of disagree with that. As a believer, ALL MY EGGS are in HIS BASKET.  I trust Him implicitly with "my eggs".   My hopes, dreams, fears, love, desires, heartache, illness, joys and laughter... are all in "His Basket".

When you are ready, you too will realize they are all safer there than anywhere else.  In His Hands... all your eggs. He doesn't even need the basket, He won't drop any of them.

The Painting: This is from my archives from 2005.  I painted this weekend, but this next week I will be taking a break from the studio. I have several large commission pieces I will start and I do not want to waver from working on them....and try and do small things just to post.  So I will comb through the back files and put up different images of past work.

The Thought: Today for me will be a day of centering.... centering in absolute peace and acknowledging that GOD is indeed in charge of this day, this week, this month, this year and my life.  There are storms raging around me both in the weather and in my own family; there is another missed vacation this week due to weather and family. Yet I know deep inside of me is a place of peace that I can go to and 'float' in calm waters.... waiting for the storms to pass over or die out.

That peace is in each of us despite the squirrels running around in our heads. Conflict, fear, anger and failure cannot touch those calm waters.   Acknowledge them and then let them go and release them by moving to a quieter place inside of you.  Heck, I am working on 18 months without a decent break from working in my studio. I have literally done two single days trips over an 18 month period for enjoyment.  Talk about burn out... I have it major.

There is a part of me that is untouched and unfazed by my conflict, I just need to go there and allow myself to heal in the stillness. It is there I will find His Peace.  It is there I will absorb and fill my mind, soul and body with His spirit and tranquility.

May you be blessed to find your inner peace this day.

The Painting: This sums it up... looking up for the New Year and what is too come.  Searching for my highest good.

The Thought: Do you know your highest good?  Despite all the electronic gadgets we have, do we actually know our own highest good?  We track each other around by cell phone all day texting or talking;  we use navigational aids to find our destination and plot our best route.

Yesterday I spent three hours at two different Verizon stores getting Crystal's phone fixed.  A new one is on the way, but we had to fight our way through technology and a long waiting game at the second Verizon store. We got Ben updated with a new phone today too.  He had one of those hot battery things going. That is never good.

What do we have to figure this out in our journey of life?
There is no road map. There is not path that has been traveled before for our journey. God is the ONLY all knowing when is comes to our highest good.  Time to tune in through prayer and heart to heart guidance from the Big Guy.  He is all nowing and only His guidance system will lead you in the direction you need to be.  Many times you encounter things you do not anticipate along the way, but eventually if you are listening, He leads you to your destination...and your highest good.

A different blog today!  Reflections of yesterday ...Christmas Day.

With the coming of the new year I tend to have thoughts of what to change or fix in my life. Improvements for the NEW ME.  Yes, even after all these years there is always hope.  The day did not start out well yesterday and that probably began my thought process or set the stage for it.

My male dog, Paddy, decided to "mark" my bookcase in the studio. Mind you this is a six foot tall book case crammed full of artbooks from my teaching... old masters, current artists, periodicals, magazines etc etc.  Needless to say, the bottom shelf is toast. What is usually on the bottom shelf?   The large heavy collector books.  This dog is 6 years old.  He has never done this before... he must be pretty mad at me....and at my husband.    Terry had left for work (Christmas morning) and I pushed my hip into it and push the loaded bookcase away from the wall inching it forward to clean all the wet stuff underneath it as well.  I allowed it to dry and then painfully maneuvered it back into position.  I was rather relieved I did not have to unload the book case. I left the room to go load the stockings from Santa's visit and heard Paddy Dog whining.  I didn't want him to wake the world so I hurried back to him...and low and behold he did it again.

I was at the point of considering cooked goose in the version of Paddy dog for Christmas dinner.  I evicted him temporarily out into the snow and began the painful process again.  One good thing was...the wet books had been removed from the first time.  BUT I found my strength was spent and gone. I could not even begin to budge that bookcase a second time.  I had to empty it to clean up.  My books are piled around me still this morning as I type this blog.  We have a kennel back in the house and he will be kenneled at night or if I have to leave.

I know the dog is depressed.  We moved from country acreage to the city two years ago and he is slowly going nuts.  This is the human's error. His daddy does not walk him any more... he is too strong for Mommy to walk him...so he is literally going nuts.   I cried. I cried alot.  I took a shower and started my day over.

Crystal did not get up until eleven.  Originally we were to go to my older daughter's home for Christmas but health issues altered those plans.  I realized that Crystal and I had zero to eat but eggs and it was Christmas morning. Terry had taken the leftovers from the big dinner on Christmas Eve. We had been invited to his cousin's home in Mesquite. These are cousins from his mom's side of the family.  A huge group of four girls and one boy, now all grown with children and grandchildren.  I phoned to see if we could rsvp late and that said COME COME.... and Crystal and I did.  I blew into the kitchen and made up organic wheat macaroni and cheese (YUM) and loaded a tray with sweets.  We googled on the internet to find an open store on Christmas and found Walgreens.  We added Christmas bags in the back of the truck cab and took off in the icy and snow for Christmas day festivities.

At Walgreen's I found the new monopoly for UT lovers and a foot massage gadget.  As I drove, Crystal stuffed the bags and we arrived with smiles on and our gifts for the exchange.  Terry's family is pretty unique.  They actually like each other.  Heck, they love each other. That house was brimming with the joy of four generations, tons of food, laughter and good stories.  We feasted and visited for several hours and then Chris, our hostess, lead the group in a singing Christmas Carol Game.  Here again I teared up participating in this sing along with four generations of smiling people. I have not felt this family warmth in a long long time.  There was no bickering, pouting, tears, drama... difficult personalities, hidden agendas...etc... it was all a joyful Christmas celebration of family rejoicing in the birth of Christ. Chris prayed with us giving thanks before the meal and again as we joined together in the big room for carols and the present exchange.  All hearts beating together as one.

This family has known tragedy over the recent years just as all families face challenges as well as the loss of loved ones. There have been difficult hurdles as they faced life and death with a newborn weighing only 14 ounces, and the loss of their mom, their grandmother in her nineties and a husband/father.  Throw in the everyday traumas...and you have life. The joy was in the coming together as family for this precious time and healing through the love that surrounds all. The smallest heart beating was little Santana Rose, recently celebrating her second birthday. She is a tiny slip of love racing around the room smiling and sharing everything she can find.  She was born four months early and through the grace of God blessing this family with a miracle of love, she is the heartbeat behind every smile in the home.

Terry made it there after work and it was good to have him bask in the light of this celebration too. It marked changes in my own soul and heart, giving me strength to go forth and know what things have to evolve in my own family.  Lifetime is too short to not give thanks to Him who gave it.  Time is too short not to "live" the life we have been given with the "gifts" that we each have. Time is too short to squirrel it away working working working.  Time is running away with our lives...literally. Hidden angers and agendas eat up our thoughts as we push through the long lonely days.

Am I strong enough to change?  I cannot change those around me, I can only be responsible for making positive changes in myself.

How about you?

Laurie

Post note: A slide show will follow after Crystal is up to show me how to unload the photos off my Verizon phone.  I only know how to do my Iphone.

Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.” Luke 2:28-32.

The Painting: This is the fifth in my Modern Small Horse Series. They are gorgeous framed in thick frames. I saved this one for my card to you this day!

The ThoughtHere is our slide show from Christmas Eve.  Dallas received a blow from the north with lots of wind and snow.  All Church Services were canceled and we finished up our evening early so every one could get home while it was light. All bridges and overpasses were closed down with the storm. We made the decision not to even attempt to try and attend my brothers annual Christmas Party. This is something we look forward to every year.  We will enjoy the German Stollen they dropped off for us to eat Christmas Morning.  A white Christmas is rare indeed... and Dallas totally closes down when is snows. We will be up very early tomorrow for Terry to make the trip from our home to DFW to work. Yes, he has to work on Christmas.  Someone has to keep those planes in the air for the rest of you! The normal 25 minute trip will probably take two hours.

It is not light enough for morning pictures but I will add some new pictures to the slide show after the sun is up this gorgeous white Christmas morning. It has been 83 years since Dallas had a white Christmas.

THIS MORNING after the sun came UP:

HIS Gift for you:

Unto each of us a precious gift is given with the celebration of the birth of Jesus. If taken seriously, this gift erupts into something that wraps itself through the very fiber of your being.  This gift lights your way in the darkest of times in your life.  This joy fills your heart with warmth and peace. This love is deeper than anything you or I could ever understand.  It is right there with you, waiting for you to accept it and open it.

From my heart and my home I wish you all the blessing of this glorious season.  May your heart open to receive His Love.

Laurie

"“So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.”Luke 2:16-20

'Day Dreams' Music Series Antique Music Varnish Overlays Painting By Texas Artist Laurie Pace Piano and Child

'Day Dreams'

Commission a Music Piece. Laurie

© Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2009

The Painting:  This is a commission I finished just in time for Christmas. It is a second version of my birthday girl that I did almost two years ago.

The Thought: Christmas Eve Day is upon us. BRRR it is cold outside in Dallas. The prediction is for rain turning to snow by noon today and icy conditions along with 1-3 inches of snow. This is rare in Dallas and even rarer on Christmas Eve.  I am not sure how it will affect our family Christmas, it may be delayed.

My day is lined out to make home-made chicken pot pie with fresh veggies and an organic hen.  Mom brought over an apple pie with cheese mixed into the crust. How I do remember growing up when my Dad ate apple pie he always sliced a huge chunk of cheese across the top of it.  I will take Pictures today as we do everything and post it tomorrow in a slide show of our family and the fun.  Stacey and Larry and TINK will not be in the pictures as they have health issues keeping them home right now, so keep them all in prayer.

Weather permiting, we will have a jam packed day and evening. Terry has to work today and tomorrow.... so we do everything early as we are up by five each morning.  We are blessed to have everyone so close with in blocks too...makes it easy! My brother Kirk and his wife Leslie have a huge Christmas Eve party for all of their friends each year.  Almost close enough to walk, but with all the hills I don't know if I could huff it up and down.  We are not talking small hills either... steep steep hills. If Terry had not given Paddy Dog a burr hair cut, he could have pulled us in a sleigh.

Whatever is happening in your day... enjoy the day, savor the moment and know you are in my prayers.

I pray for peace through out our land and in your life, for hope and love in your heart and  rest for your weariness. May you gather your strength from His Divine Grace.

In abundance,
Laurie

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." The Painting:  The background does not show up well here at all...but it is really pretty in warm blacks fading into beautiful periwinkles and blues.  The horse is solid with the scraping and layering. He almost looks texturally real in person.

The Thought:  Today I am still with my granddaughter enjoying her soft smells and her sticky fingers from learning to feed herself. I love it. Best Christmas Present ever.

I often sit rocking her with the bible in my hands,  reading to her from the bible. She is so relaxed leaning back against my chest, her hands on my arms, and although I know she does not understand what I read, I believe fully she feels it. The energy from His word passing through me to her.

I encourage you to spend a little more time in your bible this new year and take the time to share what you read with others. Share the Spirit.

Believing in Abundance...

Laurie

"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:8-11

The Painting:  Brilliant colors burst through on this end of the year celebration of the life of 2009 in the studio.  Daring boldness and VERY thick paint. It cannot ship until the first of the year.

The Thought:  I am blogging the night before (Monday Night) and this will post Tuesday morning. EXHAUSTED from keeping up with Tink but oh what fun we had at Oma's house.  I prepared Oma's homemade pancakes this morning and she was oh so happy with her first taste of pancakes with real maple syrup. YUM.

We have her again tomorrow... which is today if you are reading this ... and I am on my way to meet her mother to pick her up half way between their home and our home... so knowing we have to leave at six,  I decided to blog the night before.

Do you ever listen to "Godly" music?  Not sure how to explain this, but not necessarily always hymns but music that honors Him? My music is what carries me through my day.  I listen to a variety of genres from Celtic to Sixties Rock and Roll to a folder marked Today Christian Music.  This holds a variety of artists.  This music is so inspiring and uplifting. You will find yourself uplifted if you listen to it...so I am suggesting you go buy yourself a new CD for Christmas and make your New Year Rock!

When I play the piano I tend to play older hymns that I grew up with in church.  When I am on guitar I will play more gospel or old religion music that truly penetrates the hardest shell. I sing right along and find when I am through that all the tension has left my body... and I am uplifted and smiling again.

Listen to the good things in life and soon your train of thought will stay in the positive.

Laurie

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2:6-7

The Painting:  This was created just for Michael in celebration of his newest opera. It is done with my Music Series. It is a wonderful story about four black horses.  One day I will share more about it in a few months, so stay tuned.  On the background is the score from his new Opera performed I believe recently in Delaware.  I was the blessed artist to receive a CD of the opera and a DVD of the performance.
Here is the review:

Michael Dutka’s opera Black Horses and The Stronger were commissioned by OperaDelaware, and performed at Saints Andrew and Matthew Episcopal Church. A winning array of singers handled Dutka’s daunting scores with ease. In Black Horses, soprano Elizabeth Zell sang beautifully and clearly the libretto adapted from Luigi Pirandello’s short story. Tenor Jeffrey Halili sang with a warm tone and possessed a natural comic talent. Alexis Cregger, in her operatic monologue in August Strindberg’s oddball play, was a pure pleasure to watch and hear. Her glorious soprano and prodigious musical talent are sure to lead her far. Martha Koeneman played Dutka’s beautiful, yet difficult music with ease, grace and musicality.

The Thought: Well, the second blog book is done. NO it is not the blog book filled with all of these. If I did that they would cost $287 for a 800 page book of my blog for one year.  So this is a beautiful mini edition of my blogs and artwork in the year 2009.  I chose to dedicate this year's book to my mom. She has been a blessing to so many of us crossing four generations; she is a healer; she is an in action believer and gives of her gifts constantly.  So now you can share in my heART with this year's book for 2010, Treasures of the heart. Just click the link to the left if you want to buy a book.  You will have to email me direct if you want a signed copy.

Today we have Tink coming...so I am up early to blog and be ready for her.  She is a challenge as you can tell from the video a few days ago. She is crawling swiftly and walking around the tables.  she will be walking soon....We are still not entirely baby proofed, but we will not let her out of our site.

Is your life "Baby Proofed"?  Actually I should say " Is your life "God Proofed"?  We run around getting our homes ready when we have a baby...putting those plastic things in all the outlets, putting up all breakable things, getting rid of glass tables and nasty carpets, opting for easy clean floors.

Have you done this in your life? Are you God proofed? Are you ready for God in your life...to take Him in full time?  Did you bless the food before you ate it? Did you wake this morning and greet the Lord with praise and adoration?  Did you thank the Lord when you made it to work on time?  Did you rid yourself of some of those nasty habits that keep creeping back into your life? Did you throw out the old and declare yourself to God to be cleaned?

Hummm, maybe its time to get busy!

The Painting:  Deep rich colors created the softly blended background. When my husband saw it in person here in the studio he stopped with a "Woaw" and he does not do that often.  It relates back to the thought wild horse in nature, nature in wild horse. That is what you see and feel in this piece.

The Thought: This is the fourth Sunday in Advent today.  We will be lighting our fourth candle in our advent wreath tonight and preparing our hearts and minds for this next week. We have a family member having surgery and we are keyed on praying for a quick and healthy recovery over the Christmas week.  It also looks like we may have Tink here for a day or two. With Crystal being off for Winter Break from school, there is not conflict for having the little one here, so today I will be busy finishing all my work so I can play tomorrow!

This week I will be in meditation and prayer each day. I will choose a specific verse from the bible and allow it to seep through the fabric of my being spiritually and physically.  I challenge you to try it as well.  It will be one of the best "gifts" you can give yourself,  the gift of meditation and prayer.  By using the single verse each day,  it will bring your mind active as you read it and interpret it and pray about it. Might be a good habit to add in the new year!

May you be blessed with His Abundance.

The Painting:  Well it went before I finished the last strokes on the canvas.  A contemporary paint pull in flowers.  It will be a while before it dries....

The Thought: I promised a show today and you will have one.  The joy of our 10th month old granddaughter that you know by the nickname of Tink, short for Tinkerbell. They will not be able to be at our family Christmas this year, so they came over last night for fish stew, Latka German Potato cakes, apple pie and cookies from ST Cafe in Dallas and Crystal's wonder sugar cookies!

From my heart to your home.... here is our Tinkerbell and family!

Togetherness with family and friends is important at the Christmas Season. While you look forward to them as much as I do, there are moments in meal preparation and wrapping of gifts that you begin to feel overwhelmed.  Take a break and meditate with the Father.  He knows the true reason for the season and wants you to remember it too.  It is not the food, the gifts or the chaos...but the simplicity of the birth of Jesus and the beginning of new life for all of us.  Cherish this time and carry with you into the new year the wonderment that surrounds this occasion.

Every friend and family member brings to your home and life their gifts to the gathering.  Affirm the Lord and appreciate the diversity and the strength in your family.
God Bless,

Laurie

The Painting: Not sure what the feeling was as I sketched this one out and then the horse became blue...It was not out of sadness, more out of peace... like you would be in meditation as the day begins. As always thick paint adorns the surface in my signature style.

The Thought I knew a few months ago a reporter phoned me about my artwork saying she was writing an article for Cowboys and Indians. We visited on and off for a week and I sent images to her.  Well last night I was speaking with a collector from Wimberly Texas and she mentioned seeing my work in the newest edition of C&I.  Mind you it was already 9 pm...but I started up my little diesel  Passat  (She was not happy about starting up and driving out into the cold either) and ran up to the local market, found the magazine and thumbed through it to find on page 68 a full page article about my work and a picture of my Carousel Horses, which lives with a collector in Austin.   I bought the five copies they had and headed home.  The feature writing was really very very good.  The negative was they left out many of my larger galleries that represent my work.  Jackson Hole Wyoming, Atascadera California, Hong Kong and Dallas.   I didn't "Give" her a list of my galleries, they are on ALL of my emails that leave here as well as on my website.  Believe me, the Jackson Gallery is ALWAYS listed number one or number two.

This magazine would like me to advertise with them.  I have been advertising with Western Art Collector and American Art Collector and in the past Southwest Art.  When I compared the rate sheets I almost cried.  (I was head artist at an ad agency for 10 years)  They truly value their magazine as their rates were 2 1/2 times what I pay at WAC and AAC.  I would really have to pull some new clientele from the ads to make it worth while.  I sent an email to them last night asking why I should advertise when the editorial was not even correct.  I cannot use this to market with when it leaves out four  of my major galleries.  My left brain and right brain continued the debate as I climbed into bed... and promptly fell asleep.   I hope to hear from them this morning.  I have to face the music with my four left out galleries...and I truly am speechless.  Do you read C&I?

I know God has His hand in this,  He always does.  Sometimes His sense of humor is amazing and this might be one of those times.  I am grateful for the honor of being featured in C&I and if you have the chance pick up a copy and take a peak on page 68.  It is one of my favorite magazines and total posh in its look and presentation.  My ponies are smiling this morning and I know when my Austin collector opens her email this morning she will be grinning!

WATCH for a special tomorrow...I promise you will smile...

The Painting: Well I disclosed the history of this baby above. She is back in Texas at the Dutch Art Gallery and is for sale. Please let me know if you need a LARGE 36 x 36 painting in these stunning colors.

The Thought: Yesterday was a teaching day for me so it was busy...so this morning after doing 30 minutes on the Wii, I think I am ready to go back to bed!

I wrote earlier this week about walking with God...and the next thing I challenge you to do is to give Him all your worries and your cares. While you are talking with Him and praying, put it all out there for Him. When you put it all in His hands, put yourself there too. He is not surprised by your thoughts, your worries or your concerns as He knows them before you even form the thought to think of them.

Let it all go and give it to Him... clean your mind and thoughts of all anxiety and worry and find your joy.

The Painting: Another oldie from 2005 that is sold. It was inspired by our friend Tom's beautiful back yard in Flower Mound Texas.

The Thought:   Last night was quite a night... we began our march into Christmas.  We lit our candles on the advent wreath and discussed Joy and how we each interpreted it.  Then we feasted on home made beef vegetable soup with homemade organic cornbread. The soup was all organic too.  Thick rich tomato base with fresh asparagus, fresh snap green beans, fresh corn cut off the cobs, fresh cut up tomatoes, fresh onion, celery, orange bell pepper and carrots... then some wonderful center cut angus beef that Terry cut into one inch cubes, floured and sauted in olive oil.  We will eat this for days!

Then came the fun. Crystal has never done Christmas cookies, icing and decorating. ...so we did just that and we dipped pretzels in chocolate.  I put together a slide show of the fun... and the end of the slide show is her opening up her Senior Class ring...it arrived late yesterday evening.  So you will get a bit of everything. This is the JOY of a 17 year making her first batch of sugar cookies and icing them for Christmas gifts.

SO back to the joys... what are your joys? If you think back to your growing up years... what did you look forward to and dream of having or being one day?  How has that changed from where you are today? What would be your joy today?

In this season of advent we hold in our hearts the joy of celebrating the Christ child's birth... I wish you joy today.  My joy sharing this my family was the precious times we have gathered with Terry's family and how the love of family is so dear.  When I am in St Louis with my extended family I feel this same love surrounding us.  At this time of the year, I yearn for the gathering of those I love...to share and rejoice in the season. This year is extra special because Terry and I have the joy of our new daughter as well as our new granddaughter.

The Painting:  This is the second in the mini series I am doing.  Again a perfect stocking stuffer for your equine lover.

The Thought:  With this season of advent I am challenging you to renew the SPIRIT and enrich your life.  Every year at the end of the year we all begin thinking about New Year's Resolutions.  I do not even want to go there.

Give some thought as to how you can renew the Spirit in your life.   You might think about praying a bit more and talking and walking with God.  Do it when you are not distracted...when things are calm. If the weather allows, try walking outside and surround yourself with God's creation. I guarantee you will be calmer and more rested when you are done.

Yesterday I continued on with my calmness and my moment by moment talks with God.  Every single time I began to stress or allow fear to creep in when I was dealing with things, I told it NO.  And I turned my thoughts to God immediately.  I took a breath and continued with my day ignoring the things that beckoned me to chaos.  Whenever it seemed I was getting buried with too much to do... I turned to Him and said... let it be done as you will it to be done. ... in Your time and not mine. Oh my did the stress dissipate... someone else was responsible and it was not me.

Today start that walk and let Him have the chaos and stress... He is waiting with open arms and an warm heart....

"In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Luke 1:26-28.

The Painting: This is a small one, a perfect stocking stuffer. Email me if you are interested.

The Thought I had one of THOSE dreams last night..the kind where you are falling and you wake suddenly.  It was only about two hours into my sleep cycle and very unusual for me to dream things like that.

I googled it on the internet and was surprised by some of what I read and some I was not surprised by.  It said it was pretty common to have dreams like this when your life is undergoing changes and there is much outside stress you cannot control.  I remember writing about that last week, and how a friend from PA emailed me some thoughts that made me adjust my life.   The google info also said this was common for people to dream of falling if they were fighting for control with God.  Interesting.  The way it came down in the dream I think it was a prime reminder in my dream that He is in total control as I felt Him comfort me and surround me with a soft blueness as I was falling....I was in a car with my younger brother and my mother.

I have never put credence into dreams, not once in my life...but this one was so vivid and I am using it as a reminder that I do not have control over things in my life.  Have you had falling dreams lately? God is there to catch you on the way down.

When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written: " 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.”Matthew 2:4-6

The PaintingAnother series thick Acrylic Painting that I absolutely loved painting. There is so much power in the paint and the spiritual side of this piece...it jumps off the wall at you.

The Thought:  Yesterday I travel with my mom to visit my Dad.  I avoided the major freeways and we drove up through a direct street going north and took a risk and took off down another road just taking a guess to go east. We missed it one road too soon but veered off to the north and picked up the right road and traveled through some gorgeous Texas countryside.  Serious horse farms, hall bales and wonderful old farm houses just bursting with grazing cattle and gardens still producing for winter.

I told my mom with all our travels each year from Dallas to St Louis, several times a year... I always wanted to take off down one of those obscure roads that seem to just jut off into nowhere...but you know in your mind they all go somewhere.

We did that this morning, stepping out in faith and going by natural feel of direction... and we enjoyed the journey seeing new things.  The time did not change but by a few moments from our backtrack of 2 miles... but we enjoyed it so much we came back home that way and found it only to be 62 miles in length.    Along the way I saw a few more roads I would LOVE to explore informing her I had enough of my meds to go about three days, was she ready... and she laughed a hearty laugh.  Crystal was a bit panicked in the backseat.  We stayed steady on the course and the drive home was a breeze.

All in all it was a good day and I guess I want my friend in PA to know that and to say THANK YOU again.  It was a kind suggestion that I reorder my life and begin to live it fully again. This is a day I will not forget... a relaxed time with my mom and my youngest daughter and a terrific lunch with my dad.

May I suggest that you take a turn today and try out a new road you have not been down before?

God is good, and good is God...this is the third Sunday in Advent and there are new things ahead for you, if you have the faith to accept them. Open your hands and your heart to heaven, and be ready to receive what God has for you.

The Painting:  I took progressive shots of this painting. If you decide to offer for it and buy it, I will create a special collectors book to go with it.  Soft wide brush and Holbein Duo Oils.

The Thought:    Okay you are going to see raw intimate details.... have you ever heard the expression you are what you eat?  Here is what is in my refrigerator:

First shot inside my frig.  Three types of cheese from Whole Foods,  Cottage cheese (Lactose free) Celery, Olives, Carrots, butter, tortillas (Corn) Onions, etc

Second shot inside my frig.  This one is harder to see
Top shelf are eggs, Terry's buttermilk, two flavors of fat free yogart Stonyfield, Real
Lemonaide (also Terry's)
Second Shelf is lettuce, asparagus (fresh waiting to be cooked) Left over Carrots,
Cantaloupe, leftover casserole, a container of cut up fruits and melons, flour,
more yogart, shredded cheese...
In the drawers I didn't photograph are apple and pears to the right and in the left one, red potatoes and squash.

What I didn't shoot was the Christmas Candy... ugh. Why did I buy it? Total temptation.  Meanwhile yesterday,  I raided the frig most of the day eating olives, carrots and a cheese cube here and there. I baked a mid-size red potato for lunch and I had eggs for breakfast with fresh sourdough bread.

So how do I size up if I am what I eat?  Except for the two snagged York Mint Patties, I do pretty well.  I only drink water or fresh teas that I brew each morning. No sweet drinks or sodas.

If you are what you eat, you can definitely say this is true about prayer to God. You are what you pray ....if you are leaning toward self centered needs, your supplications out weigh your thanksgivings and your adoration.  Think about your personal intake and out take on God and prayer... you are what you pray.  Give Him praise, Give Him Thanks...confess your short comings and sins, and then go for the supplications and requests. AND don't just concentrate on your needs but the needs of those around you too.

I am sure you don't like it when a child whines at you all day asking for everything under the sun... most of us like to hear Thank you or Hey Mom  you are really special to think of that for me...
So I think I am what I eat and I am what I pray....

How about you?

Laurie

The Painting: From the archives of 2005... and lives on the east coast.  Last night we had a second showing at the Dutch Art Gallery for the Artists of Texas. There was a good turn out of local artists and some wonderful neighborhood folks taking in all the gorgeous art.

The Thought:  If you have ever been in therapy they teach you to find that special place to go to in your mind when you are relaxing and needing to find peace within your self.

One of my favorite places to go is remembering a trip on our sailboat, which is a catamaran.  When we were skimming across the lake, I love to lay flat on the trampoline and watch the clouds or close my eyes and feel the movement over the water.  For me that is so relaxing...as if I was in the Father's arms and He was rocking me.  I think that is why I enjoy sailing so much.

It is up to us to envision good in our lives and affirm the highest and best for all people.  I am not sure we could describe what the definition is of "highest good", but it begins with God's love, His peace and healing.  I would love to see people treating each other with respect and love.  (Back to the basics of Doing unto others as they would do unto you.)   There is abundance surrounding all of us in this higher plane of life.  It is a coexistence of people of all races in balance and harmony with the earth surrounded by God's love.

With the coming celebration of the birth of Christ, this is where we come close to Peace on Earth and Good will to all men.  I wish that for you as I affirm your highest good today.

The Painting:  Yes, a new one... one of the pulled paints done in Acrylic paint.   Ready for a new home for Christmas. Email me with an offer:  Laurie

The Thought: Love...my thoughts are rolling into the arena of love. When does love begin? Does it have a beginning?  God does not have a beginning or ending and His love for us is the same. No matter what we do to ourselves and our lives...God loves us unconditionally.  We tend to sink our selves and punish ourselves more than He ever could. God's heart was prepared for us before we were even created. His love is unchangeable.

Can you imagine standing in a very warm shower enjoying it as the water pelts gently down on your back or face... and the water stays hot and never gets cold?  You could stand there 24 hours and the hot water would continue?

OR that you could sit at a table with continual food being delivered to you constantly... with out end, new delicious dishes that never stop arriving?

Hummm...or how about the massage you get and you only have 50 minutes to enjoy?  It could go on forever too....

Did you ever think about God that way? His love warms you, feeds you, holds you, cares for you, provides for you, laughs with you, cries with you... His love is ever constant.  Sometimes He takes your journey in undesirable places...but know HE is with you the entire time and He is your protection.
He is your constant support and gives His joy and love in abundance continually.

Relax today and let Him take care of you.  It is truly a wonderful feeling.

Laurie

PRE-NOTE:  I am in immediate search of a small white teddy bear with a pink tutu....please email me Laurie
if you know of where I can find one.  THANKS!

The Painting: This was started last week and finished this week.  Softness of white and tan countered with golds, Indian wheat, violet blues and periwinkle... all layered in this angelic composition.

The Thought:  Well, Terry and I have continued with the puzzle.  He made the comment that he felt stupid at times sitting there twenty minutes with a puzzle piece in hand and it slips simply into a spot where he has been staring at.  The answer was there all the time... he was just looking to hard.   I have decided it has be done in the next two weeks so I can put it up for us to have Christmas eve here and feed everyone.

We all have things in life we are trying to figure out and I cannot emphasize enough you are trying too hard to see the answers. God has provided those answers. You are so stuck in your box you cannot possible even begin to see them over the edge of the side of your box...and the answers are right there in front of you.  The love you want is there. The job you need is there. The money that you are short is truly there; you are looking for these things in a predictable way that you can control.  You have not sat in simple concentration and prayer with God for HIM to show you where you will find the missing love or the job you need.  Our way is not His way.

When someone is missing from your life you cannot bring them back. You have to get into the daily habit of releasing them to God. You are in God's heart and you are filled with His spirit. The next best thing is to pray that God is in this person's life filling them with His grace.  Viola you are connected through the Spirit.

The missing job... you are obviously going in the wrong direction or it would be working. Your mindset is in concrete and nothing can pull you from it...so be ready to be poor and miserable. You need to reinvent yourself and refocus on other assets. God obviously wants you going a different direction. YOU need to try it out.  Try a different career.  Do the un-obvious and pray.

Money is short for bills?  Get creative.  This week we made goulash again and it will feed us for five days.  We get tired of eating it, but we keep fresh organic fruit and breads that rotate that make it easier.  Perhaps you could offer your services to family or friends letting them know you need to pick up some extra money to help out right now.   You may find you enjoy raking leaves or painting walls...and the money will be there that you need and you will be helping someone else out.   I remember when I was young and the kids were young, my friends and I would get together and help each other clean house.  It was WONDERFUL.  We each took certain areas of the house and did it. Our kids played together.  By working together we each ended up with a clean house and we had fun doing it.   Another friend and I would cook on Sundays and make enough to trade out with each other on part of the food.  I loved her Hawaiin Meatballs and she loved my chili.  We did dessert trades too...and by each of us preparing two meals on Sunday for two families, we were able to feed our families all week from those meals.

Back to THE puzzle.  We are not even half way... and I should be spending more time working on it too.  Mid day is best for me...mind and light on the pieces.

Is there a best time to talk to God to figure out your decision on something?  Nope, anytime is good for Him. Infact,  give Him a nod right now... reach out and tell Him you  are ready to release your control to Him, for Him to order your steps....and send you in the right direction.

Laurie
